Story
Stark is an 8 year old boxer/hound mix. He is great with kids and does well with other dogs and cats. He’s a sweet dog who loves to snuggle and spend time with people. We are no longer able to give him the exercise and attention he needs and would love to see him go to a home where he would thrive. He is also crate-trained.

Story
Well, hi there! My names Spartacus! I am an older guy but like all good things, I only get better with age! I like to think I have perfected the art of balancing fun with relaxation. These days, you will usually find me soaking up the sunshine in the play yard or curled up on my favorite fluffy bed for a well-earned nap. I still enjoy going out for walks and exploring, but I'm just as happy spending a quiet afternoon lounging by your side. I can be a little reserved when meeting new people, but don't worry, it does not take much to win me over. A few treats, some good ear scratches, and we'll be best friends. (Trust me, treats are the way to my heart.) One of my best features is my expressive little "eyebrows." They give me the funniest, slightly puzzled look that makes everyone smile. I am a smart guy, too! I already know "sit" and "shake," walk nicely on a leash, and would love to keep learning with a family of my own. I have lived with other dogs before, and if you have one at home, I would love to meet them first to make sure we are a good match. I would do best in a home without cats. If you are looking for a loyal companion who is past the puppy stage, enjoys life's simple pleasures, and still has plenty of love to share, I think we'd make a pretty great team. I can't wait to find my forever home!

Story
Hi everyone, Rocky here! I came to Woodford Humane looking for my second chance after my person passed away, and I’ve been working pretty hard on myself while I wait for my next chapter. When I arrived, I weighed about 93 pounds, and these days, I’m rocking a much healthier 63 pounds! I’m past all that puppy chaos, but I’m not quite ready to call myself a lazy senior either. I’m a sweet, laid-back guy who appreciates the good things in life: a nice stroll, some time sniffing around the yard, and, most importantly, a comfy place to settle in with my people. I’ve had some knee trouble in the past, so keeping me at a healthy weight and giving me appropriate exercise will help me stay feeling my best. But don’t let that fool you, I’m doing great, and losing 30 pounds is proof that I’ve been putting in the work! After everything has changed in my life, I’m more than ready for something permanent: a family to love and a couch to call my own. If you have another dog at home, I’d love to meet them first just to make sure we’re a good match! I’ve worked hard, lost the weight, and I’m feeling better than ever! I’m ready for my final and biggest transformation yet: from shelter dog to somebody’s best friend. Think that could be you? Give Woodford Humane Society a call to set up an appointment to meet me, I’ll be waiting!!

Story
Hi there! I am Rivka! I am a happy, athletic, high-energy girl with plenty of enthusiasm for life. Give me some room to run and you’ll get to witness my signature zoomies, but once the fun is over, I am more than happy to curl up on the couch for some well-earned cuddles. I am still polishing up on my manners and would love a family who will keep helping me learn and channel that enthusiasm in the right direction. I’d especially enjoy an active home where I can get plenty of exercise, playtime, and enrichment. When it comes to sharing my home, though, I’m happiest being the one and only! I’m looking for a home without other dogs or cats, and I’m not a good fit for a family with small children. That just means I am searching for a home that fits me! In return, I promise you won’t have to share my love with anyone else! If you’re looking for a personal trainer, adventure buddy, and professional couch cuddler, I might just be your girl! I’d love the chance to meet you! Go ahead and call my friends at Woodford Humane Society to see if we’d be a good fit!

Story
Her name is Artemis. She has all of her early shots, including rabies, and is spayed. She's really anxious but really sweet and if you let her will not leave your side. She has the capacity to get along with other animals. I have seen it. BUT, she needs time to adjust to them. The reason why she is being listed is I want her to go to a good home where she can hopefully get the time she needs to learn better behavioral issues. She is not doing bad things all the time but goes through bouts of getting out (She will literally jump over the back fence if she feels like it. Even with direct supervision), and has other bad habits that over the past couple years have become a bit much for myself and the people I live with. The vast majority of the time she is absolutely a great dog and I have relented rehoming her but she is going to end up getting hurt and I can't be the one to come home to that. She has a lot of energy as well and has never been aggressive with kids but keep her calm.

These pups are in Richmond, Kentucky too!

Story
Millie’s story is one of resilience and love. She came to us after her owners moved away and left her—and several others—behind. When she was found, she was heavily pregnant and actually in labor. Within 24 hours, she delivered seven healthy puppies, a true testament to her strength and determination. Millie is a BIG girl, weighing 80lbs, you can tell she is food motivated! She is fully potty-trained and does wonderfully in her kennel—a remarkable achievement considering she spent most of her life outdoors. She gets along beautifully with both dogs and cats, though honestly, she barely notices them. Millie’s world revolves around her people and affection. It’s clear she was deprived of love for much of her life, and now that she’s experiencing it, she can’t get enough. She’s a true velcro dog—following you everywhere (except, amusingly, the bathroom, which she’s oddly terrified of!). She thrives on cuddles, pets, kisses, and constant attention, soaking up love at every opportunity. Her desire for affection can be a little overwhelming at times, but after all she’s endured, it’s completely understandable—and impossible not to love. Millie is smart, food-motivated, and learning new tricks every day. When she’s not showering her people with love, Millie enjoys lounging in bed, sprawling on the couch, or stretching out on the kitchen floor. She’s a big fan of naps and comfort, and she’s recently begun playing gently with other dogs. For the first time in her life, she’s learning what it means to just be a dog—no puppies to care for, no stress—and it’s been a joy to watch. Millie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is ready to bring love, loyalty, and endless snuggles into the life of the family lucky enough to adopt her. Story
Meet Nyx Nyx is a 3–4-year-old mixed-breed girl with a playful spirit, a loving personality, and a heart that truly embodies the resilience of rescue dogs. After finding herself in an Ohio animal control facility where dogs are not adopted out, her future looked uncertain. Thankfully, a dedicated foster stepped in and gave her the second chance she deserved. Now, Nyx is ready to find the forever family she's been waiting for. Nyx is the kind of dog who fits easily into everyday life. She is sweet, friendly, playful, and loves spending time with her people. Whether it's exploring a new trail, going for a neighborhood walk, running errands together, or simply relaxing at home, Nyx is happiest when she's included. She has a wonderful temperament and is the type of dog you can confidently take out in public, making her an excellent companion for an active family or someone looking for a loyal best friend. Nyx gets along well with both people and other dogs and enjoys having canine companions. She has a social, easygoing personality that allows her to settle into new situations with ease. While she has not been tested with cats, slow introductions and proper management are always recommended when introducing any new pet into the home. This smart girl is potty trained and crate trained. Like many affectionate dogs, she sometimes has a little excited pee when she's especially happy to see her favorite people. She also has a bit of a mischievous streak and has proven herself to be quite the little escape artist when it comes to her crate. Fortunately, she's not destructive and simply likes seeing if she can outsmart her humans every now and then. Nyx has an old healed leg injury that leaves her with a slight limp, but it doesn't cause her any pain or slow her down. She still enjoys running, playing, exploring, and keeping up with all the fun. If anything, it simply adds a little extra character to an already incredible dog. Sadly, black dogs are often overlooked in shelters and rescue, spending far longer waiting for families than many other dogs. We'd love nothing more than to see Nyx prove that statistic wrong. She has already overcome so much and received the second chance she deserved. Now all she needs is someone willing to give her the forever home she's been patiently waiting for. Nyx is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped, and ready to become a loyal companion, adventure partner, and cherished member of her forever family. Located in Lexington, Kentucky
