Story
Hey hey, I’m Kobe! My brother,Shaq, and I have a sad story. We are twin brothers who are 10 months old and weigh 52lbs. We were found as strays in Oakland County and then were reunited with out owner. Sadly, our owner then sold us on Snapchat like we meant nothing to them. Within 48 hours we were passed around from home to home, from one stranger to another, from so many smells and new things…we ended up separated during this time. Confused, scared, wondering where my brother was, the both of us began to wonder if we would ever see each other again. It was a dark time for both of us. Thankfully, we landed ourselves in Macomb County and Macomb County Animal Control heard our plea for help from a kind individual. They immediately taught the buyers a lesson and took us in before anything bad happened to us. Shaq and I were reunited at Macomb County Animal Control! We were beyond thrilled and happy to see each other again! We knew we would be ok here as hopefully our last pit-stop before finding a forever family. We have the same personality! Although we would love a home together, we do not require a home together. We both love other dogs and making new dog-friends. We are playful and energetic and would do best with a fenced in yard to allow energy burn off. The volunteers are teaching us basic commands. While we are very outgoing with people we know and other dogs, we are shy when we first get to know you. If you think about it, it’s understandable given our history. We promise we do warm up after we realize you will not hurt us or throw us away like the people before you. We had not met cats while being in the shelter. A slow introduction is required to ensure a happy life. We have volunteers as young as 10 years old and I do well with them. I`m up to date on my vaccines, however I will need to see my new veterinarian within 2 weeks of my adoption to ensure that I stay healthy and keep on a regular vaccination schedule. If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. To help speed up the application process, it is recommended that you complete the online application form found at the link below.https://animalcontrol.macombgov.org/AnimalControl-AdoptionApplicationMy adoption fee is SPONSORED!!JOIN US FOR THE CLEAR THE SHELTERS ADOPTION EVENT HAPPENING THROUGH 8/31! Hi, my name is Sis. I am 2 years old now. Life flies by when you're social butterfly!!! I love to play and spend time with the volunteers and staff at HSOM while I wait for my forever home, where I can play all the time. I even like to play with some other dogs! I would like to meet your dog if you have another one at home. I'm not sure what I like better, playing or cuddling with my favorite person because, I love to do both!Thank you for showing an interest in our pets. Story
Meet Harley! This adorable boxer babe is two years old and weighs in around 42 pounds. Harley's journey began as a street dog in Arkansas, before moving into a foster home and now arriving at GLDR. She's currently in foster with our founder and we have lots of info to share with you about this beautiful girl! When it comes time to play, Harley is ready and willing to have some fun! She likes her stuffed toys and enjoys chasing a ball. A yard for her to romp in is a must for this fun-loving pup! Harley does like to play with other dogs, and would do best with dogs her size that have an energetic play style. When it comes time to eat, Harley is very food-motivated and will need to be fed separate from your other dog as she likes to steal meals if given a chance. Harley is both crate-trained and house-trained. She loves going for walks and does best with a harness lead to help keep her focused. As she's still a young pup, she will benefit from continued training and work on the leash. She's a very social and would love to go on lots of adventures with you. At the end of the day, Harley is content to sleep quietly through the night in her crate. Based on our evaluation, Harley would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. She may also have the potential to live in a home with other dogs of a similar size and energy level. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. Harley will need to go to a cat-free home. Please fill out an application at greatlakesdogrescue.com and my friends at GLDR will get you in contact with my foster family!

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Rogue. She is a Boxer mix with extremely gorgeous brindle markings. Rogue weighs 57 lbs and has a short hair coat. Rogue is almost 1 1/2 years old. She was an owner surrender as her previous family no longer could afford their dogs. Rogue is a very happy girl and we can still see the puppy in her. She is very loving and sweet. She is happiest when playing with the other dogs outside in her foster home. She really doesn't want to come back in regardless of this cold weather when she is out playing with the other dogs. She needs a coat in the cold weather due to her short hair. Rogue is fed 1 1/2 cups twice a day and has a bit of a sensitive stomach, typical of the Boxer Breed. She is fed Chicken and Rice and the treats are occasional. This gal loves to cuddle on the couch with her foster family. She is fed away from the other dogs as she likes to go to other dog bowls when she is done which doesn't go over well at the foster home. Rogue is not crated. She has behaved well in her foster home as long as she has a playmate and lots of chew toys which she loves. Rogue is not crated at her foster home but will need to be fed separately from the other resident dog. At night she sleeps on the couch as there is no room for her on her foster parent's bed. She would love to have a doggie bed in her new family's home or even join them on their bed. Rogue needs work on walking on her harness and lead but love to go out. She is from a rural part of Kentucky so she is not used to traffic, buses etc. We notice she has a prey drive. Though she has not hurt our small dogs, we are very mindful of her when she is around them. She does best with medium to large size dogs. In the vehicle, she rides well and enjoys car trips . She gives sweet kisses and loves to be hugged and held close. She has the Boxer temperament, she is quiet, very fast, loves to run, sensitive stomach is family-oriented, and can be stubborn. She has a temper if one of the foster dogs does something she doesn't like. Rogue does very well with children but not cats! Rogue requires a lot of exercise and running time. She doesn't have to have another resident dog in her home but she will need to have another dog to play with at times every week. We do not recommend dog parks. She will do best when she has a best friend, or buddy to play with regularly, a canine that she has met and really enjoys their company. She can be dog selective so socializing with male canines is best. The ideal home for Rogue will be a family that has a large fenced-in yard for her to be able to run and play in. Another socialized canine would work but if not, an active outdoor type of family that wants to get involved in activities would be best. We believe she would really enjoy obedience classes so as not to get bored and continue socialization with other dogs. She will require a wooden fence, 6 feet or higher as she can really jump and scale lower fences. A family who has had Boxers before would be helpful. Rogue is spayed, up to date with vaccines, 4 dx tested negative, dewormed, and microchipped. A fully fenced yard with a minimum of a 6-foot high wooden fence, an active family that enjoys and who will participate daily in outdoor activities for Rogue, a family who will ensure she has running time daily but not at a dog park, and a Veterinarian History of Compliance is mandatory to apply for our Rogue.
