Story
Hi future best friend, I’m Jupiter! I’ve been told I’m a Boxer mix, but honestly I think I’m mostly just… dog? Big, wiggly, slightly slobbery good vibes. My time at FDHS has been...an event. You know how some dogs have a rough start at the shelter? Mine has mostly involved accidentally injuring myself in increasingly creative ways. First, I sliced my paw open, which led to three separate vet visits because I wasn't very committed to the healing process. Then I discovered something called Happy Tail Syndrome. If you're unfamiliar, it's what happens when a dog has a powerful wagging tail and absolutely no self-preservation instincts spends too much time whacking said tail against kennel walls. Long story short, I ended up needing a partial tail amputation. I look a little silly now, but I feel a whole lot better. The recovery process involved wearing a giant cone, which was deeply offensive to me. For weeks I wandered around looking like a satellite dish, occasionally running into walls, doors, and people. Nobody was safe. The good news is that I'm all healed up now and still just being me! I love my humans, I love attention, and if you sit down, I'll probably try to become part of whatever you're doing. Personal space is still more of a suggestion than a rule. Other dogs? Meh. I don't mind them, don't necessarily need them. Cats don't really seem to bother me either. If your household needs some slobbery kisses, a personal comedian, and a professional snuggle buddy - I am single and searching!**Neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention. Weighs 54 lbs**

Story
Meet Ragnar ❤️Ragnar is the kind of dog that reminds you the best things in life don’t have to be loud or complicated. At 9.5 years old, this handsome guy is past the puppy chaos and fully embracing the “good boy with great manners” phase of life. He’s incredibly sweet, gentle, and just happy to be around people. Ragnar seems to get along well with other animals and has been nothing but lovable since arriving at the shelter. He’s the kind of companion who would probably enjoy a comfy couch, a soft bed, and simply being near his person. And the best part? Ragnar is completely ready for his fresh start. He’s neutered, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, and hoping his next chapter includes a family to call his own.Senior dogs have a special kind of magic about them. They love deeply, ask for little, and somehow make a house feel more like home.Come meet Ragnar at DeKalb Humane Society. We think once you meet him, you’ll understand why everyone here has fallen for him. 🐾An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

💎 Meet Ruby 💎Ruby is the kind of dog that will steal your heart once she knows she’s safe. Behind those sweet eyes is a girl who just wants someone to love her and understand her.She bonds deeply with her person and when she trusts you, she is truly an angel. ❤️Ruby does struggle with anxiety and can be very scared around small children, so she is looking for a calm, patient home where she can be the only pet and feel secure. She is not aggressive — just a sensitive soul trying to navigate a world that feels overwhelming sometimes. The best things in life take patience, and Ruby is one of them. She needs someone willing to give her time, consistency, and love while she works through her fears. In return, you’ll gain a loyal companion who will love you with her whole heart. If you think you might be Ruby’s person, please apply through DeKalb Humane Society. 🐾An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Story
I got Nessa when she was about 9 months old in 2018 and have had her since. Until about early 2025 I did not have any issues with her she was house trained and with time would get used to visitors/ strangers. She is extremely cuddly and loves to sunbath even if from a window! She can sit and wait to be told to eat her food and can shake and sit and lay down on command. Nessa has a lot of anxiety and at the beginning of 2025 it got worse due to me having to take on 2 jobs to afford our home and that kept me away from home for long periods of time while she stayed home alone. This happened for about a year until I had to move in with my parents who already had 3 dogs themselves but Nessa had been around them all for years. Unfortunately the dogs started to not get along and Nessa had gotten hurt and wish to give her a better safer home. Due to the trauma I don’t believe it would be in her best interest to start off with someone who already has a dog. Please help me help Nessa..

Story
Laila is a 5yr old spayed female Boxer/ Pitbull mix. Laila came to us as part of a cruelty case. Laila was loved but never received vet care or proper food. She had a terrible flea infestation and was missing a lot of hair. She was also thin and needed wormed. She has now been fully vetted and has put on some much needed weight. For everything she has been through Laila is still a very kind and gentle girl. She eagerly wants to please you and should quickly learn new commands. She has some energy but also calms down nicely. She is good with her food and happily shares toys and treats. She has been through enough and now deserves to live the good life. She seems very well house trained. She is up to date on shots and wormed. She is already spayed. The adoption fee is $200. If interested in meeting this cutie, please email heritagefarms08@gmail.com or call the foster at 419-779-0862 . She is being fostered in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. When emailing please include information about you and your family including other pets.
