Story
Lulu / Female / 5 Years Old / 63 lbs / Boxer Cross / Good with Dogs / Adult Only Home/ Not Tested with Cats / From Tennessee/ Fostered in Pickering Meet Lulu! Lulu came from Tennessee where she was found as a stray. Lulu is wonderfully affectionate and is described as a big, cuddly bear. She has a cute little stubby tail that really does make her look like a little bear! Lulu loves to be outside and shows it by making her people laugh with a zoomie session after a walk. When relaxing, Lulu likes to be close to her person by resting her bum on them. Lulu has wonderful human social skills. She is easygoing and calm with people she knows, as well as strangers. Lulu is very friendly towards most people, she can be wary of strange men but warms up quickly, she just appreciates the opportunity to sniff things out first. She also does not like to share her space with young children and may growl to show her discomfort. She is looking for an adult-only home without frequent children visitors. Lulu loves going out for walks and is a very well-behaved on leash. She may sometimes pull to sniff something but otherwise she walks well with her foster. She is fine walking through busy intersections but prefers calmer, lower traffic sidewalks. Lulu is very dog social and loves pulling towards new dogs to meet them. She is working on her manners and practicing polite greetings. Lulu currently lives with a resident dog and gets along very well with them. She understands doggie boundaries and respects space very well. Lulu is not tested with cats, she seems interested when she sees them outside, but given her sweet nature we think she would be okay with a dog-savvy cat who isn't in her space. Lulu is a wonderful house guest as well and can stay happily on her own for several hours. She is crated and settles quickly. She has also been left out of the crate and done very well. She settles quickly and has no separation anxiety. Lulu is very treat motivated and is working on basic understanding (sit, stay, come, down, off). Her recall is also a work in progress but she tends to stay quite close to her trusted people. She will need help with heel and walking by distractions (overall her loose leash walking is very good). She is on the lower end of medium energy. Lulu currently enjoys one hour long walks in the afternoon, in addition to 1-2 shorter walks throughout the rest of the day. She walks very well and with a loose leash. In addition to walks, all she asks for is lots of attention from her humans. After a nice long walk, Lulu has been left alone for 5-6 hours. She settles quickly and does not show signs of separation anxiety. She is given free reign in the home with no issue. However, she was crated previously and did very well with it. Prior to coming into care, Lulu tested positive for Ehrlichia. Ehrlichia is a tick-borne disease that stays in the bloodstream for many years. A CBC is performed to see if there is an active infection. Lulu's CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection. Ehrlichia-positive dogs may develop chronic kidney disease at some point of their life. It is recommended that any dog that has tested positive for Ehrlichia have annual wellness blood work along with a 4dx blood test once a year unless clinical signs arise. If clinical signs of Ehrlichia arise bloodwork should be done sooner. Also note that Lulu should have pre-op blood work including a CBC and platelet count before any surgery or dental extractions (due to a risk of low platelet count). Lulu’s adoption fee is $850. Story
** LUA'S ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED ** Lua / Female / 1 year old / 35 lbs / Boxer Mix / Good with calm dogs / Good with cats / No children/ Female Only Home / From Mexico / Fostered in Oakville ** Follow Lua’s journey on Instagram: @adoptablelua ** Meet Lua! Lua came to us from Mexico, where she lived in a vacant lot with no roof or shelter. She gave birth to a litter of four puppies while tied up to the fence of the lot. Our wonderful partners in Mexico cut the chain she was tied to and took the mama and her puppies to safety. Lua is one of these puppies, rescued from a life of neglect and ready to find a loving home. Lua is a sweet girl with the most expressive eyes. Her fosters describe her as affectionate, curious and playful. Lua adores her people and is always ready to snuggle. She even believes she is tiny and will make herself fit on your lap, no matter how awkwardly she has to lay. Lua would love nothing more than to be in a home where she can be showered with love and attention. Lua is best friends with her trusted humans. She will stay close by and can be protective in nature. With new people Lua prefers to assess, sniff and take her time. Once she feels comfortable she will shower them with the same love and affection. Lua is a bit more nervous around men, and is working with her fosters to learn that they can be safe too. Lua would do well in a home that is a female only household. Lua has met older children and has shown signs of nervousness around them. We think she'd do best in a home that is kid-free. She could eventually live in a home with respectful, dog-savvy children but this will take time. With patience, decompression time and support Lua will show her loving nature to her humans. Lua is looking for a home in a quieter neighbourhood. City sounds and passing cars are new to her and make her feel nervous. A home with a yard where she can play would be ideal, but as long as she has access to green space she will do well. Lua is the type of dog that will thrive wherever her humans are, as she loves to be part of the pack. Lua is currently looking for a home where she is the only dog. She has had positive interactions with other dogs in the past, but can be defensive when sharing her space. Lua will set boundaries for herself and does not seem bothered by other dogs she passes on walks. With proper introductions Lua would enjoy socializing outside of her home. Lua currently lives with a cat and does well. She has shown both curiosity towards the cat and respect for the cat's boundaries. As a young girl, Lua will require lots of outlets for her energy. She currently gets two walks each day. Lua is doing well on leash so far. She loves to sniff and explore as she goes. Lua will stop when a car goes by, and tends to avoid other people, but she is gaining more confidence each day. Lua is very good at looking to her trusted humans for reassurance while on walks. Indoors, Lua enjoys enrichment activities and is learning the joy of playing with toys. Lua is making great progress with her basic training. She enjoys learning and making her humans proud, so working with her is great! Lua is crate-trained, spending time in one when she is home alone, and overnight. She is housetrained, but her new family should be prepared for a transition period and possible accidents. Life indoors is new for Lua, but she is learning her house manners fairly quickly. Lua prefers to be where her people are, but will settle in adjacent rooms to nap, or chew a toy. Lua is a sweet girl with the biggest heart, waiting to find her forever family that is ready to give her the time and attention to learn how to be the best companion. Story
Meet Simba – a squishy, snuggly bundle of joy who’s looking for a cozy place to call home! Simba is a lovable 1½-year-old Boxer/Bulldog mix who’s full of charm, sweetness, and a little bit of silly. Rescued from a heartbreaking situation, he hasn’t let his past dull his spirit—he’s ready for love, laughter, and belly rubs galore. He adores other dogs, is respectful with cats, and absolutely melts for children. Simba is a people-pleaser through and through—he loves to be close, snuggle up, and hand out kisses like candy. His wiggly belly-flop routine is guaranteed to make you laugh. Simba walks beautifully on leash (once he gets those first few excited wiggles out!) and is always ready for a car ride or backyard romp. He’s easygoing, playful, and would thrive in a home with space to stretch his legs and a family to love him. This happy boy is healthy, neutered, and dreaming of a soft bed, a loving hand, and someone to call his own.
