Story
Lua / Female / Approximately 2 years old / 35 lbs / Boxer Mix / Good with calm dogs (male dogs preferred) / Good with cats / Good with older, dog-savvy children/ From Mexico / Fostered in Warkworth Lua’s journey began in Mexico. Her mother was found living on a vacant lot tied to a fence, without shelter. She gave birth to four puppies before our rescue partners intervened, cutting her chain and bringing the little family to safety. One of those puppies was Lua, rescued from neglect and now blossoming into a loving, affectionate companion. Lua is a sweet girl with the most expressive eyes. She’s affectionate, playful, and always ready to snuggle. She even thinks she’s a lap dog, curling herself into your lap no matter how awkwardly she has to fit. She loves enrichment, enjoys nose work, and the way to her heart is through dehydrated beef heart (but not fish—she’ll politely turn her nose away). Outdoors, she adores chasing frogs around the yard, nudging their butts to make them hop. With her trusted humans, Lua is loyal, affectionate, and happy to stay close. She can be protective and cautious with new people, particularly with men, preferring to sniff and assess before warming up. Once she’s comfortable, she showers them with love. She's met older, dog-savvy children so a household with teenagers would be ok for her as long as they give her time to get comfortable. Lua would do best in a single family home (no apartments or condos) in a quiet suburban or rural area. Lua has been steadily building confidence in her foster placement. By her first evening, she went from tail tucked tightly to running toward them with excitement, eventually taking treats gently by hand. To avoid over-attachment, her foster family members take turns feeding and interacting with her, helping her learn balanced relationships. Lua has also found a special friend—Freedom, a dog from another local rescue. With careful introductions, they began walking together, sharing outdoor time, and playing on the deck. They’ve been spotted kissing and even waiting for each other to drink before resuming play. She shows no resource guarding with toys or treats when with Freedom and could thrive in a home with another calm, balanced dog—or as the only dog, provided she continues supervised socialization through dog-walking dates and slow introductions. Lua also does well with cats, respecting their boundaries while showing curiosity. She enjoys two walks a day but is very athletic and we expect she could jump a fence if she wanted to. She loves to sniff, explore, and looks to her humans for reassurance when cars or city sounds make her pause. She’s doing well on leash and grows more confident every day. Indoors, she enjoys enrichment activities and is beginning to discover the joy of toys—though she once shredded one happily in her crate, then calmly let her foster clean up the fluff. Lua is crate trained, housetrained (with some adjustment expected in a new home), and is progressing well in learning impulse control through structured training. She sleeps in her crate overnight and settles when left home alone. She’s eager to learn, smart, and thrives on gentle, positive reinforcement. Lua is a loving, sensitive girl who has already come so far. She’s ready for a foster-to-adopt home or an adopter who will give her the time, structure, and affection to continue her journey. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion with a big heart and even bigger potential, Lua could be the perfect fit. Due to Lua's unique circumstances, her fee is sponsored by Fetch + Releash. Prospective adopters must commit to attending training sessions with her post-adoption with a certified R+ dog trainer to ensure a successful transition. Story
Juniper is a sweet, 9 year old female mixed breed dog. She had a rough start to life as a stray, suffered and overcame heartworm and has shown everyone who meets her how smart, gentle and funny is truly is. Although she has come so far, she still carries a lot of the baggage and anxiety from her earlier days. Junie loves to take naps, relax, stretch her legs and look forward to things in her usual routine. Walks, people and squirrel watching, stretching out on the couch. She also loves to be around friends, go to the pet store, the hardware store or Starbucks. She adores car rides and playing in sprinklers. Sometimes those fun outings can be overstimulating and cause her to become stressed and can also be stressful for her human friends. Her current foster parents have found out that taking time to introduce her to any new situation- allowing her to see (and safely sniff) a new place, keeping the first visit short and pairing it with treats, praise and patience can make a huge difference for her. She has time and time again shown that with each visit to a slightly less routine place, she becomes more comfortable and relaxed. And yes, we think her new adopters may even need to do this with their neighborhood coffee shop. Adopters will also need to pre-plan for potentially high stress situations where Junie may feel the need to act first and ask questions later before she understands what is happening. Asking people to give her space and giving her breaks when she needs them are very important for Junie. The great thing is: Junie enjoys being around friends in a predictable way such as having her mat to sit on with a chew treat when she needs a break from being a social butterfly.

Story
Hi, I’m Lucky — thanks for coming to my interview! Interviewer: Lucky, tell us about yourself. Lucky: Great question. I’m a 2-year-old Lab / American Bully mix with lots of energy, a big personality, and an even bigger love for life. If there’s something happening, I want to be part of it. If there’s nothing happening… I can help fix that Interviewer: What’s a perfect day for you? Lucky: Adventures! Walks where I get to sniff everything, training time (especially if snacks are involved), and play sessions with my true love: tennis balls. Squeaky ones. Bouncy ones. If it squeaks and flies, I’m obsessed. Other toys? Meh. Tennis balls have my heart. Interviewer: Do you know any commands? Lucky: I do! I know sit and paw already—pretty impressive, right? I’m super food-motivated and really eager to learn more. I’ll admit, though, I can get excited and strong, especially on leash. That’s why continued obedience training is important for me. With consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, I’m going to shine. Interviewer: What kind of home are you looking for? Lucky: An active one! I’d love a family who enjoys staying busy, going on outings, and including me in their daily routine. I need both mental and physical exercise every day to keep my energy balanced and my brain happy. Training + fun = my dream life. Interviewer: How do you feel about other dogs? Lucky: I came in with another dog, so having a canine buddy might help me burn off energy—but slow, supervised introductions are the way to go. I like thoughtful approaches. Interviewer: Anything adopters should know about your past? Lucky: I’m starting fresh. My past had some inconsistency—no real routine, not much structure, and a lot of figuring things out on my own. Things like house manners and crate training may be new to me or need a refresher. What I really need now is clear boundaries, predictable routines, and someone who knows dogs and wants to help me grow. Interviewer: Final thoughts? Lucky: I have so much potential. With the right person—someone patient, active, and excited about training—I’m going to be an incredible companion. If you’re ready to put in the time, energy, and love to help me be my best self…I just might be the girl for you Interview concluded. Tennis ball requested. Story
Mona is a 4-year-old Lab x Bully mix who found her way to the shelter as a stray and is now ready for a fresh start. This lovely lady is the perfect blend of calm and playful: happy to enjoy downtime, but always up for an adventure when it’s time to move! Mona may be on the smaller side, but don’t let that fool you—she’s strong and delightfully chunky, so she’ll do best with an active, confident handler who can keep up with her zest for life. She’s currently working on her glow-up (goodbye smelly coat and extra fluff!), and with regular exercise and enrichment, she’ll be feeling her best in no time. She can be a bit shy with invasive handling and appreciates slow, gentle introductions. Give her a little time and space, and she warms up quickly—rewarding you with a full-body wag and the kind of affection that melts your heart. Mona is an active, playful girl who will thrive with daily walks, fun games, and mental stimulation. She knows how to sit, but she’s still learning her manners and can get a bit jumpy when excited, so continued positive-reinforcement training will help her shine. She’s done well meeting another small female dog at the shelter and may enjoy a canine companion who can match her energy. Because Mona can be vocal in her kennel, an unattached home would be ideal for her comfort and success. Overall, Mona is a sweet but sensitive girl looking for a patient, loving home that will give her the time she needs to feel safe and confident. If you’re ready to offer kindness, consistency, and a little room to run—Mona just might be your perfect match.
