Story
They say there is someone for everyone in this world. And at the Shelter, we like to believe that for our dogs as well. And we cling to that thought for our dogs as it gives us hope. And sometimes, hope is all we have for them.Such is the case with our beloved Odie Cakes. He is an amazing dog - fast, perceptive, adorable, loving and devoted. But, he also is very prey driven. And sometimes, when he gets overexcited, he reacts quickly, without thinking.Odie found a home but the atmosphere was just a bit too much for him. Despite the best efforts of the adopter, he realized he could not slow down the pace of his life enough to calm Odie. The BEST news is that since being back with us, Odie has been fabulous. He loves all the volunteers, he has a pal in our Finn (with just through the fence play) and he greets each day and each person with happiness.Odie's days are very calm and predictable at the Shelter and that's what gives him the calmness and peace he needs. Odie doesn't need constant activities or other dogs - Odie just needs a person who will live life with him in a somewhat boring manner. We know Odie's person is out there somewhere. He is so loved by us all and we want nothing more for him than to live his life in happy home. Please SHARE Odie's story so we can reach as many people as possible - maybe his forever person has been searching for him and just didn't know Odie was waiting at our Shelter!Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Hi there, I'm Vega, a 6-year-old, 70-pound, brindle and white boxer. I'm looking for a forever home with someone who can keep up with me and love me unconditionally. I'm a fun-loving and adventurous boy, who enjoys playing, running, and exploring. I'm also very smart and eager to please, especially if you have some treats for me. I'm neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative, so I'm ready to go whenever you are. I do have some quirks that you should know about. I like to test people I first meet, and I need a firm owner who can teach me right from wrong. I am dog selective needing slow intros to other dogs. I should not be around cats or other small animals because of my high prey drive. I do well with kids but probably not small kids because of my size, energy and I can be a bit of an attention hog without even realizing it. I can be crate reactive and have some barrier frustration. I also need more work on leash training, as I pull hard. Devices like gentle leaders may help me learn how to walk better on leash. I have a lot of love to give. I'm very passionate and loyal to anyone I bond with. I bond quickly and can’t wait to make friends with you! I love being petted and cuddled. I'm a relatively quiet pup, and I can calm down when my exercise needs are met. I'm being boarded in Auburn, Alabama, but I can be transported out of state if you're the one for me. So, what do you say? Are you ready to meet your new best friend? I'm waiting for you. Fill out an application today and we will get the process started! *Must be 21 or older to apply.

Story
Hi, I’m Tybee, a handsome and sweet boxer mix. I am actually what is called a reverse brindle in the Boxer world. I’m 3 years old, 80 lbs., and brown/black brindle with white in color. I’m looking for my forever home where I can be your loyal and curious companion. I’m a friendly and playful boy who is good with children. My foster home has rabbits, chinchillas, sugar gliders, rats, and guinea pigs and I haven’t bothered any of them. I am fine with cats and won’t bother them at all. I’m house trained, crate trained, and leash trained, and I know basic commands of sit, stay, and down. I would benefit further with more training as I really bond well when working and am one of those dogs who enjoys a job. I’m neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative, so I’m healthy and happy. I’m highly treat-motivated and I will sit at street crossings. I will also try to sit during our walk and try to get extra treats from you. I love to run and jog and would do great with an active family. I’m a special boy who is good with female dogs but not with large male dogs. I recommend slow introductions to make sure I get along with other dogs. I can pull on the leash a bit if I want to get to something, so please be patient with me. I’m great with children, but I recommend older ones due to my size. I’m working on my mouthing where I playfully chew on hands, but I don’t mean any harm. I’m a sweet, curious boy who wants to be loved. I’m a wonderful dog who has the entire staff at my veterinary office madly in love with me and my great personality. I ride very well in the car in my crate. I’m currently in Mebane, NC, but I can be transported out of state to the right home. If you’re looking for a loyal and curious companion, I’m your boy. Fill out an application and my rescue will connect you to my foster to learn more about me. I can’t wait to meet you!

Story
Hello there, I'm Twitch, a one-year-old boxer mix and I am a very happy pup. I have a beautiful faint brindle coat that makes me stand out from the crowd and weigh a cuddly 45 pounds. Something else you might notice about me is that I tend to twitch my head. This is how I got my name, Twitch. The vet didn’t find anything that stood out that might require medication or seeing a neurologist at this time. He says I am healthy with a great coat, teeth, eyes and pass the general exam with flying colors. I will always just be special in my own sweet ways. I am a vocal dog and will hold full conversations with you in the language of my people…Chewbacca. Oh yes. Get ready for some guttural sass to let you know precisely what is on my mind. I settle down well and will curl up beside you when it is time to relax. I also sleep to the fullest, upside down with my mouth open to the stars like a drunken undergrad at the end of a frat house party. But wait…there’s more! I am a very curious and adventurous boy. I love to explore and pick up anything I can find to take outside. I will need your careful supervision and attention to make sure I don’t get into things I’m not supposed to. I'm good with other dogs, but I don't know when to stop playing, so I might annoy them sometimes. If you already have an energetic playful dog, we may be great together to keep each other busy. I do my best if I am let out to potty by myself. Otherwise, I will get distracted by the other dogs and won’t go potty until I am back in my crate and remember that I have to go. I’m just a little bit all over the place. I also don't have any fear or sense of danger. For example, there are aggressive dogs in my foster home, but I don’t sense it at all. I will approach their crates wanting to be friends and play no matter what! Even when they bark and growl at me, I will still try to approach and play with them. I have a superbly innocent “puppy mind” and likely always will. I haven't been tested with cats or kids, but we think I would do well with older children who can handle my energy and excitability. I can also be cat-tested if you would like. I'm neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative, but I'm still working on my house, crate, and leash training. Please remember that I am still a young puppy who is learning new things now that I recently been placed in a stable environment. I'm looking for a forever home that can give me the love, care, and patience I require. My family will be committed to investing the time needed to work with me. I am located in Statesville, NC but can be transported to other locations for the right family. If you think you're the one for me, please fill out an application today! *Must be 21 or older to apply.

Hi, I’m Sophia, a 4-year-old Boxer mix with a gorgeous tan coat and a sweet personality. I’m super sweet and a little skittish. I’m spayed, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. I’m looking for my forever home where I can be loved and pampered. I was rescued from Lee County Animal Shelter and am now in boarding waiting for a family of my own. I’m crate and house trained and great with people and kids. I would do best with older children over 10 who have dog-manners and will not climb, push or pull on me. I’m super loving and enjoy giving kisses and cuddles. I am treat-motivated and take them gently. I like to go on car rides and relax with my humans. I would do best in a home with a fenced yard where I can play. I am a beautiful dog made of pure muscle. I am super strong and tend to pull on leash when I am excited but will calm with training direction. I am good with calm submissive dogs like the senior dogs in my former foster home. A slow introduction to any dogs already in the home will be required. I have not been cat tested but can be if you’d like. I’m looking for a forever home full of fun play times and love. I’m sure that you will fall in love with me as soon as you see me. I am in Clemmons, NC but can be transported to other states. If you think you are the perfect match for me, please fill out an application today. I can’t wait to hear from you! *Must be 21 or older to apply.
