Story
From Foster: Piper is an overall goofy, very sweet dog. Within the last few weeks, I have gotten to know her and learned more about her personality. Piper LOVES her people. She loves getting rubs and cuddles whenever she can. She wants to be around people all the time, and will occasionally whine if she can't see you. She can get jealous of the other dogs getting attention. She is fantastic with other dogs with playing and just generally existing together, but she tries to soak up all the human attention. She loves carrying things in her mouth. She'll lug a toy or shoe around and even sleeps with it in her mouth. But she does not chew. She is not destructive. She didn't know what dog food was when she came because she was a scrap ,'n trash dog. Now she eats kibble and shares with the other dogs She's learning the leash. Does better on the leash when she's walking with another dog. Staff notes - Piper is a sweet and loving girl that gets along great with other dogs, she's lived with several dogs. She may play shy at first, but she's an undercover lover.  Piper was rescued from a crowded shelter in New Mexico with her newborn puppies. Her puppies have since been adopted.  Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##1996999##

Story
This little girl is so sweet and so adorable. She adapts very well and very quickly to new environments. She's great with other dogs and she is potty trained. She's about two years old and about 20 pounds. If you're interested in meeting or adopting her, please go straight to our website and fill out the online adoption application at fochp.org    Please fill out our online application (www.fochp.org).  Once you meet the pet and decide it is the right pet for your family there is an adoption fee.  The adoption fee includes the spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, de-worming, microchip, 30-day pet health insurance which you will need to order when we provide you with the number.    Our adoption fees are non-refundable so please be sure you are ready for a commitment to the pet you are interested in. Please be sure to check your spam mail if you feel you have not heard from us. Once we receive the application, we can put you in touch with the foster home so you can schedule a time to meet the pet.  Our adoption process is pretty quick, and a lot of volunteers are involved to ensure you get a quick response.  Please…. only fill out the application if you are ready to adopt right now and have consent from all parties involved.  Once you submit the application please verify that it is received (the screen will say your application has been received) if you do not get that message it has not been submitted. – if you do not hear from us within 1 hour, we may not have received your application.    Adoptions are based on Best fit/match and then 1st come 1st serve.  Please check your email regularly for a response from the foster and be prepared for the opportunity to meet the dog as soon as they can be adopted.    June 13, 2024, 2:41 pm

Story
Max is a Carin terrier and is about 13 years old. He is a very sweet boy, but can be irritable at times due to his age. he has been around children, teenagers and adults. Also around other dogs and cats and does pretty well with both max definitely showing signs of old age. Due to our housing situation we do need to find Max a new home immediately. He’s sweet boy with some life still to live and I’m hoping to get him the home he deserves.

Story
Rufus is a smart, energetic, and loving little terrier who is looking for a good home. He has a ton of character and personality and has a lot of love to give. We rescued him about 6 years ago and the shelter estimated that he was about 4 years old at the time so that puts him at about 10 years old now. Rufus is house trained and knows basic commands (i.e., sit, down, stay). We are expecting a child soon and we think that Rufus should be at a home that can provide him with the time and attention he deserves. He would do well in a home that can help him channel his energy through regular walks and play. He does not do well with large dogs but get's along well with small dogs just fine. He can be a bit slow to warm but once he does you’ll have a dog that will love you with everything he has.
