📚 Meet Ernest 📚Some cats are independent. Some cats enjoy affection when it suits them. And then there's Ernest.Named after Ernest Hemingway, this handsome 4-year-old polydactyl tabby—with all his extra toes and extra charm—has made it his life's mission to love people. Ernest doesn't just enjoy affection; he lives for it. His happiest moments are spent leaning into gentle pets, giving sweet headbutts, and gazing up at you with complete trust, hoping you'll spare a few more chin scratches. If you've ever wished for a cat who truly wants to be your companion, Ernest is that cat. He's the first to greet you, the first to ask for cuddles, and the kind of friend who simply wants to be wherever you are. Whether you're reading, watching TV, working from home, or just relaxing after a long day, Ernest will be nearby, reminding you that you're loved.Of course, Ernest has other passions too. He never says no to a good meal, gets delightfully excited over wand toys, and enjoys stretching out in warm sunbeams for a well-earned nap. But if given the choice between treats, toys, and affection, Ernest will choose love every time.Around here, we lovingly call him "Ernest Leonard Toes" because of his adorable extra toes—a fitting tribute to both his famous namesake and one of his most charming features. But what truly makes Ernest special isn't what's on his paws. It's what's in his heart.Ernest is FIV+, but it doesn't define him or slow him down. He's a happy, healthy cat who is ready to spend his life doing what he does best: loving his people. He gets along well with other cats and makes friends wherever he goes. All Ernest is missing is a family to call his own. After everything, he still greets each day with trust, affection, and a heart wide open. If you're looking for a cat who will fill your home with companionship, warmth, and unconditional love, Ernest is waiting to meet you.And trust us—once you meet him, you'll wonder how you ever lived without him.Ernest is now accepting adoption applications, available below!Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is a cat-specific virus that cannot be passed onto dogs or humans. FIV is spread through deep bite wounds, typically seen on outdoor male cats who have not been neutered. It's rarely spread through grooming, sharing bowls, or litter boxes. FIV affects a cat's immune system, but most cats live long lives when they live indoors, receive routine veterinary care, have a stress-free home, and a good diet. Apply here: https://tenlivescatrescue.org/adoptionapp/Please Note:If the cat or kitten is no longer listed in the drop-down menu of the application then they are no longer available for adoption and we are not accepting applications. Due to limited volunteer power, applications submitted for cats or kittens no longer available will not be reviewed. About Ten Lives:Ten Lives Cat Rescue is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization located in Rhode Island. Our foster-based program is 100% volunteer-powered. We do not have a facility or shelter with regular visiting hours. Out of respect for the time, privacy, and safety of our foster families, we require an approved adoption application before scheduling a meet and greet with a foster cat. Our goal is to place cats in their best-matched homes and facilitate lifelong adoptions. We do not review applications on a first-come, first-serve basis. We believe that veterinary care is an important part of cat guardianship. As such, a veterinary check is part of our adoption process. Our goal is to contact applicants within 96 business hours of receiving their application. During kitten season, wait times may be longer due to the influx of applications. We are all volunteers and kindly ask for your patience! All Ten Lives cats are spayed or neutered, receive age-appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLv and parasites, dewormed, treated for fleas, and microchipped. These services are inclusive of the adoption fee.
