Poppy is a 1.5 year old Cane Corso, who came in to the shelter as a stray over night. Poppy came in wearing a worn collar, and unfortunately no one ever came to reclaim her. Poppy has the cutest way of greeting people, and smiles when she's excited to see you! This big girl loves being in the play yard, playing fetch with squeaky toys. Poppy weighs about 94 pounds, but we like to think she is a gentle giant. We can't wait to see her get into a home of her own and really blossom into the confident, wonderful dog we know she can be! At this time, she is recommended for a home with young teens, 13 and up due to her size. So, Don't wait! Her fur is the SOFTEST I have ever felt, and she is a 12/10 snuggler. She's completely housebroken, sleeps through the night in her crate, and although she's young, she's definitely got some kind of mix that makes her the perfect medium energy level (and I would anticipate in a few years she will be a lazy lug 🤭. She's always up for a good play session, but she tires quickly and snoozes hard. She LOVES water - ice cubes, bathtubs, kiddie pools, hose sprayers, you name it. She's been great with my other dogs too - she really wants to play but they weren't interested at first, and over the course of a few weeks she figured that out and has assumed the mood of the house (which is generally lazy and couch-loving). She's honestly incredible on leash - most of the time I could walk her with one finger if I wanted and she'll stay right next to me. You might see she has cherry eye in some of her photos, but she just had the surgery to correct that and we anticipate it will heal well! More photos to come as she heals up. WARREN COUNTY, NY: A treasure and a pleasure, Darcy is also the kindest, most gentle dog ever who loves all people, all dogs - and don’t forget his toys! Charming Darcy is estimated to be 6 years young and weighs a healthy 63 lbs. When he first arrived at the shelter as a stray in February 2024, he was emaciated and vomiting. He continued to decline, becoming weaker and weaker for the next 9 days until he only weighed 49 lbs. Even though he was so sick, Darcy was always such a good boy - getting along with all staff, all dogs, and always obedient and easy to handle. Finally, Darcy underwent surgery for an intestinal blockage due to a foreign body. Afterwards, Darcy sure was hungry! This handsome boy has packed on some well-deserved pounds and his coat became smooth & silky. In early April 2024 Darcy was rescued from euthanasia and has since resided in a loving foster home. A true gentleman, Darcy is a very sweet and kind boy who plays so softly with other dogs. He seeks attention and is affectionate, leaning in for a snuggle. He is a love bug who enjoys pets and walks, having a medium energy level. His foster recently also took in a nervous puppy and Darcy immediately started loving on him, playing with him to help him feel more comfortable. When we read through Grandma Nub’s story at the @nycacc and saw her soulful eyes, we knew we had to help her. She was found tied to a bench in New York City, and upon intake had to have a surgery for an open Pyometra and her spay. Shelter staff fell in love with Grandma right away and pleaded for her to go into a rescue and foster home.  This senior sweetheart, affectionately known as Grandma Nubs, is everything you’d want in a companion. When it’s time for a walk Grandma Nubs does her happy dance! She adores the simple pleasures of being petted and loved by her human friends, getting treats, playing fetch and going on walks (and she’s great on a leash), though she gets excited when seeing other dogs! She’s got gentle manners, is housebroken, crate trained  and is a quick learner — so she’s very easy to have in the home!  11 Year Old, 70lb Grandma Nubs is a resilient pup who deserves the world.
