He is not only friendly towards humans, but also plays well with other dogs, making him an ideal companion for a multi-dog household. He is playful - loves toys. Journey also enjoys meeting new people, always hoping that one of the new humans will take him home. It is hard to believe that this friendly guy has been in rescue for most of his life. Is it because he isn't as pretty as some other dogs? It certainly isn't because of his behavior. Tawny is a delightful Carolina Dog mix with a heart full of love and an adventurous spirit. There’s nothing she enjoys more than being with her family, making her the perfect companion for someone looking for a loyal and affectionate pup. Whether she’s lounging in the sun, playing in the yard, or going on an outdoor adventure, Tawny is always happiest when she’s by your side. This sweet girl rides well in the car and is fantastic on a leash, making her an excellent travel and walking buddy. Calvin is a 6.5 month old male Carolina Dog mix who weighs 40 lbs. He is a little on the shy side at first, but warms up quickly and enjoys being around people. CiCi is a super sweet, smart and resilient girl! She is about 2-1/2 years old, 55lbs and loving life in a foster home even though she is missing one back leg. This does not slow this fun loving girl down one bit! She runs and plays with the other dogs in her home and is only considers this change in her life when jumping up in her mom's truck or on a bed, which she achieves, but cautiously. Her foster mom says that "She smiles sometimes when you are talking to her and she is excited. Her personality is lovely as are her manners, even if she can be a bed hog! She enjoys walks and playing with all the other dogs, and loves to go for rides. She seems uninterested in cats and she is a really smart girl!" The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there!
