Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 11th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.   All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption Fee: $800 Zamboni: The Sweetest Little Sidekick   Age: 1-2 years old Weight: 16 lbs Breed: Cocker Spaniel mix   Zamboni is a handsome little Cocker Spaniel mix with a fabulous personality and a talent for making himself the center of your world. Smart, affectionate, and full of charm, this boy is happiest when he's close to his people and included in whatever they're doing.   A Loyal Companion   One of the first things you'll notice about Zamboni is how deeply he bonds with his humans. After a few days in foster care, he transformed from a busy explorer into the ultimate velcro dog. He follows his people from room to room, settles happily at their feet, and always wants to know what everyone is up to.   While he's not a dog who spends hours curled in your lap, he loves affection and will gladly repay a few pets with plenty of enthusiastic kisses. He especially enjoys leaning against his favorite people or stretching out across their feet while they work around the house. At bedtime, he'll happily settle in at the foot of the bed and drift off to sleep near his family.   Smart, Silly, and Full of Personality   Zamboni is incredibly intelligent and loves being part of family activities. He enjoys games that challenge his brain and give him a chance to interact with his people.   One of his favorite activities is searching for hidden family members. His foster family's children invented a hide-and-seek game, and Zamboni eagerly used his nose and problem-solving skills to track them down. He's the kind of dog who enjoys learning and would thrive with a family that includes him in games, training, and daily adventures.   He also has some wonderfully entertaining quirks. Zamboni is convinced that blankets are the perfect place to hide his prized possessions. Toys, treats, and favorite treasures are all candidates for his elaborate burying projects. He works so hard at hiding things that his foster family occasionally has to intervene before he gets carried away.   The Perfect Balance of Playful and Relaxed   Zamboni strikes a wonderful balance between active and easygoing. He enjoys a daily walk, loves exploring his surroundings, and is always up for some fun, but he's just as happy to relax nearby once the excitement is over.   His ideal day includes a nice morning walk, breakfast, some time spent with his people, and a cozy spot to nap. Give him a chew bone and a place near your feet, and he'll be perfectly content.   As an added bonus, Zamboni isn't an early riser. If left to his own devices, he'd happily sleep until 9 or 10 in the morning.   Great with Kids   Zamboni has done beautifully with the children in his foster home. He genuinely enjoys spending time with them and loves interactive games that involve people.   Because he is so smart and engaged, he would likely thrive in a family that enjoys teaching him new tricks, inventing games, and including him in everyday life.   Walking Buddy Material   Zamboni is generally easygoing and pleasant on leash. He enjoys sniffing and exploring and usually walks with a loose leash.   Like many dogs, he finds squirrels, birds, and neighborhood cats interesting, but he's easily redirected and responds well when reminded to keep moving. He enjoys taking in the world around him while staying connected to his person.   A Few Things to Know   Zamboni can also be a little cautious when meeting new people. Rather than rushing up to strangers, he prefers to observe first and approach on his own terms. People who give him a little space and patience are quickly rewarded with his affection and loyalty.   Zamboni is mostly house-trained but may need continued consistency and regular potty breaks as he adjusts to a new home. He has also shown some mixed reactions to unfamiliar dogs while on leash, so his adopters should be prepared to continue helping him build positive experiences and confidence.   Why You'll Love Zamboni   Zamboni has all the ingredients that make a truly special companion: intelligence, loyalty, affection, and a healthy dose of goofiness. Whether he's following you from room to room, inventing new places to hide his treasures, or leaning against your legs while you get ready for the day, he has a way of making himself an irreplaceable part of the family.   If you're looking for a devoted best friend who wants to be your partner in all of life's adventures, Zamboni is ready to meet you. July 7, 2026, 11:43 am

Adoption fee: $650 Stovepipe: The Puppy Who Believes Personal Space Is Highly Overrated Before we begin, let's address the obvious question. What exactly is a Dachshund-Poodle mix called? A Doxie-poo? A Weenie-poo? A Noodle-Dox? Stovepipe doesn't particularly care what you call him, as long as you're willing to let him sit directly on top of you while you say it. This adorable 3-4 month old, 15-pound puppy came to DPS from a shelter with his brother, Muffler Man. The boys were overwhelmed, frightened, and completely out of their element. Thankfully, DPS stepped in and gave them the chance they deserved.   And while Stovepipe may have arrived scared of the world, he's quickly discovering that being a puppy is actually pretty wonderful.   A Day in the Life of Stovepipe   Stovepipe starts his mornings around 7:00 AM with a trip outside for a potty break. After that, he's ready to greet the day with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a healthy appreciation for breakfast.   Meals are still a bit of a work in progress. Stovepipe isn't a huge foodie yet, but he's slowly discovering the finer things in life. So far, watermelon and green beans have earned glowing reviews.   The rest of the day consists of a delightful rotation of naps, toys, puppy adventures, backyard time, and carefully supervising his foster family.   When left home with the resident dogs, Stovepipe happily entertains himself, takes naps, plays, and lets himself outside when nature calls. He's proving to be a remarkably smart little guy.   Dinner is around 5:00 PM, followed by an evening of snuggles and playtime before a final potty break and bedtime around 10:00 PM. And where does he sleep? As close to his people as physically possible.   His foster family originally tried a crate. Stovepipe strongly disagreed with this plan. Now he sleeps in the bed, often on the pillow, pressed up against his humans, perfectly content and sleeping through the night without any potty breaks.   From Terrified Shelter Puppy to Professional Snuggler   When Stovepipe first arrived, he was scared...drooling from anxiety, shut down, and unsure of everything around him. He didn't want people reaching for him or trying to interact. He simply wanted to quietly exist nearby and figure things out at his own pace. Fortunately, his foster family gave him exactly what he needed: time. Within hours, he started following the pack around the house. Within a day, he was trying to climb into laps. Within a few days, he discovered toys. And once he discovered toys, there was no going back. He's made tremendous progress, and like many puppies who've experienced shelter stress, he's still building the confidence to feel settled when his people step out - something the right home can absolutely help him grow through. Today, Stovepipe is embracing puppyhood with enthusiasm and learning that life can be full of fun, affection, and adventure.   Velcro Puppy Level: Extreme   Some dogs like being near their people. Stovepipe would prefer to merge with his people if possible.   He is happiest when he knows exactly where his favorite human is at all times. He'll follow from room to room, settle beside you while you work, nap near your feet, and then move closer if you happen to shift positions. If you're sitting on the couch, Stovepipe would like to be touching you. If you're lying in bed, Stovepipe would like to be touching you. If another dog moves away and creates an opening closer to you, Stovepipe considers that a personal invitation.   Despite all of this, he's actually quite respectful. He doesn't demand constant attention. He simply wants to be nearby.   And when you tell him what a good boy he is? His entire body wags. Sometimes he gets so excited that he starts bouncing up and down in little happy puppy hops.   Toy Collector and Puppy-in-Training   One of the most fun parts of watching Stovepipe blossom has been seeing him discover toys.   At first, he wasn't quite sure what they were. Now he treats the toy box like a treasure chest.   He loves sorting through toys, carrying them around, and deciding which one deserves his attention at any given moment. Every day seems to bring a new favorite.     Life With Other Dogs   Stovepipe absolutely loves being part of a pack.   He was initially shy around the resident dogs, but quickly warmed up and now wants to play whenever someone is willing.   His favorite playmate is the younger dog in the house, and the two spend their days racing through the yard, wrestling, chasing each other, and generally having the time of their lives.   The senior dog, however, occasionally wishes for a little more personal space. Stovepipe hasn't fully grasped this concept yet.   He continues to politely—and repeatedly—check whether she has changed her mind about playing.   Because of how much confidence and joy he gains from other dogs, his foster family would love to see him join a home with another friendly, playful dog who can continue teaching him the ropes.   House Training and Home Manners   Stovepipe has made impressive progress with house training. He quickly learned where to potty and now routinely takes himself outside when he needs to go. He can also hold it overnight with no problems.   Adventure Potential   Because he is still completing his vaccinations, Stovepipe hasn't started leash walks yet. But based on his personality, curiosity, and love of being wherever his people are, his foster family suspects he may grow into an excellent adventure buddy. Whether that's hiking trails, exploring new places, or simply running errands together, Stovepipe seems happiest when he's included.   Stovepipe's Perfect Home   Stovepipe's ideal home would include another playful dog who can continue building his confidence and showing him how wonderful life can be. He would do best with patient adopters who understand that while he's come a long way, he's still gaining confidence and learning about the world. Because he forms strong bonds with his people and thrives on companionship, he would love a family that enjoys including their dog in everyday life. And perhaps most importantly, his future family should be prepared to share their furniture. And probably their pillow.   Why You'll Fall in Love   Watching Stovepipe transform has been nothing short of magical.   The frightened little puppy who arrived from the shelter is slowly being replaced by a happy, playful, affectionate boy discovering all the joys of being loved.   His full-body tail wags.   His little play hops.   His fascination with toys.   His determination to be touching his people at all times.   The way he chooses connection over everything else.   Stovepipe is proof that sometimes all a scared puppy needs is a little patience, a little kindness, and a safe place to land.   Now that he's found his footing, he's ready for the next chapter: a forever family who will cherish the sweet, snuggly, toy-loving puppy he's becoming. July 7, 2026, 11:43 am

He came to rescue with his buddy Ritz after being picked up as a stray, and while it’s clear life hasn’t always been easy for him, watching him discover the comforts of home has been incredibly rewarding.   When Triscuit first arrived, the world inside a house seemed completely foreign to him. Leashes? Confusing. Walks? Absolutely not. On his very first evening walk attempt, he froze completely and had to be gently carried to the grass. By the next morning, treats helped convince him to take a few tiny steps. By day three? He was excitedly wagging at the sight of the leash and proudly trotting through the neighborhood like he’d been doing it his whole life.   Now, walks are one of his favorite things.   Daily Life with Triscuit   Triscuit wakes up sometime between 6:30–8:00 AM. Most mornings he quietly waits for his humans to get up, though occasionally he’ll let out a tiny bark to politely remind everyone that breakfast and bathroom breaks are important business.   He eats twice a day and enjoys two walks daily. Depending on the timing, he may choose breakfast first or adventure first — he’s flexible like that.   During the day, Triscuit likes to keep tabs on his people without necessarily being glued to them. He’ll lounge a few sofa cushions away, curl up in a nearby dog bed, sprawl across the cool kitchen tiles, or supervise backyard activities from the yard. He follows his foster around the house in a sweet, quiet way, settling nearby once he decides you’re staying put for a while.   At night, he happily sleeps in his crate in the bedroom and genuinely seems to enjoy having his own cozy little den. Sometimes he’ll even tuck himself in there during the day when he wants to relax.   Professional Belly Rub Solicitor   If Triscuit had a full-time job, it would be convincing humans to rub his belly.   This boy LOVES affection — on his terms. He has perfected the dramatic belly flop maneuver and will happily roll over for scratches whenever an opportunity presents itself. While he’s not exactly a velcro lap dog, he absolutely wants to be near his people and involved in whatever’s going on.   One of the funniest things about him? He sleeps completely upside down with all four legs sticking straight into the air like a tiny fluffy fainting goat. Deep sleep in this house apparently requires maximum dramatic flair.   Smart, Sensitive, and Still Learning   Triscuit is a sensitive little guy who appreciates respectful handling and predictable interactions. While he adores people, there were a couple of moments where he gave warnings when someone reached to pet him without checking in first while he was resting nearby. Because of this, he’d do best in a home with older children or adults who understand canine boundaries and will allow him space when he’s relaxing.   The beautiful thing about Triscuit is that despite whatever hardships he experienced before rescue, he still chooses connection. He seeks out affection constantly, follows his people around, and genuinely wants to bond.   Social Butterfly with Opinions   Triscuit loves seeing people and dogs on walks and would happily greet every living creature in the neighborhood if allowed. He gets excited when spotting dogs from afar and sometimes barks because he’s eager to say hello. That said, he has also shown he can settle beautifully in public spaces. He accompanied his foster to both an office and a café and, after an initial adjustment period, relaxed quietly on a dog bed or watched the world go by while his human enjoyed coffee with friends.   Future Home Dreams   Triscuit would thrive in a patient, loving home that understands he’s still learning how to “dog” in a family environment.   Most of all, he needs adopters who appreciate the incredibly rewarding process of helping a shy, uncertain dog continue blossoming into his best self.   Underneath the cautious moments and occasional barking is a goofy little sweetheart with impossibly soft fluffy hair, an endless desire for belly rubs, and a talent for sleeping upside down like it’s an Olympic sport.   Whoever adopts Triscuit won’t just be getting a dog — they’ll get to be part of his next chapter, and that’s something pretty special. July 7, 2026, 11:43 am
