Story
Emmy is being fostered in Illinois Emmy is both blind and deaf. Update on Emmy's medications from her foster mom: Emmy needs eye meds 2X daily: Optixcare and Optimmune She also takes Trazadone and Gabapentin for anxiety as needed. Emmy gets anxious due to cognitive decline or when she can’t find her human. This can be recognized by her pacing and may lead to potty accidents Emmy update 8/22/25: Emmy continues to be a shining star. She is a smart little girl, navigating well in her dark and silent world. Emmy enjoys taking in the scents on short jaunts outdoors (see video) and cuddling on the sofa with her human. She is quiet and sleeps through the night which makes her perfect for apartment or condo living. Emmy has improved with the care and love she is receiving in her foster home. She has had follow up bloodwork and been given a clean bill of health by her vet! It has also been confirmed that she is fine, though indifferent to cats. This sweetheart is looking to spend her golden years in a low energy, relaxed home environment. She rides well in a car or can be taken for walks in a doggie stroller, so it is easy to take her along on a small adventure. If you are looking for an easy-to-love, quiet companion, Emmy may be your girl. Was it mentioned that she sleeps through the night? Emmy is a sweet little senior who loves to explore. Even though she is completely deaf and mostly blind she gets around real well. She is estimated to be over 10 years old and was severely malnourished when she arrived. She has made great progress getting closer to her optimal weight. She likes to be hand or spoon fed when she eats, and does not like kibble but loves her wet food! Emmy wanders around the house a lot to map her surroundings. She has quickly mastered the doggie door and patio steps independently. She does not like the crate but she has no trouble roaming the house. She will do best with calm dogs and older kids. We don't know about cats. She is house trained as well. She is really sweet and would love to find a forever home of her very own! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
It really pains me to rehome her but she deserves a home with more one on one attention. We took this sweet girl in from a friend who was going to take her to a pound and we didn’t want her going to one so we offered to take her in and find a home. She was about 8 weeks old when we got her. At first a family member wanted to take her in after their senior dogs had passed away. We fell in love with her and decided we would keep her till our family member was able to take her and now they can’t take her due to their financial struggles lately. She currently lives with us, our 5 month old (who she LOVES), 3 other dogs (2 medium sized and one chihuahua) and 2 cats. She plays very well with the cats and the dogs and is well mannered around the baby. Shes very shy at first but warms up quickly, she is house broken with a back yard but needs work on a leash, just very timid and nervous walking around (doesn’t bark aggressively or pull).
