Story
'Charlie' Chihuahua X- male- 3 yr oldCharlie found himself in a predicament that he could have never imagined, as he lay on the cold, hard shelter floor in terrible pain from being shot in the spine. Confused, in agony, and terrified of his future, this small baby was starting to give up all hope. The bullet was still lodged in this poor baby’s spine. We quickly took him to the vet, hoping to provide this innocent soul some comfort and have the bullet removed. But during the surgery it was discovered that If the bullet was to be removed Charlie this could cause him to become a paraplegic for the rest of his life. Therefore leaving the bullet in allowes him to run and play with a bit of wobbliness, but better than risking becoming a paraplegic. For now, Chalie is safe and sound at his foster home bouncing around and playing with his foster siblings. Charlie has special needs... he needs help having his bladder expressed. This is VERY EASY to do and we will happily teach you. He would LOVE to have a playmate in his new home. Story
'Leah' Chihuahua X- female- 9 yrs old-7 lbsLeah came in to the rescue as a paraplegic. We put her on a course of strict cage rest and she miraculously regained the use of her hind legs. Leah is so happy to be held by someone who loves her that she literally vibrates with joy. Everyone at the rescue loves Leah very much, she is definitely a fan favorite. The temporary paralysis left Leah with some incontinence, but nothing a cute little diaper won’t fix. Leah is a 9 year old 7 pound Chihuahua. Leah has been waiting a long time for her forever home, please don’t make her wait much longer. Leah would do best in an adult only home.9 yrs old -7 lbsOur adoption fee through our rescue covers the dog being fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered, dewormed and flea treated. Story
'Lumi' Chihuahua, female-7 lbs, 1 1/2 yrs oldLumi the 1.5-Yr-Old Chihuahua was Intentionally given a Life-Threatening Dose Of Methamphetamine. Tiny Chihuahua Lumi was fighting for her life after being forcibly given methamphetamine by a teenager in her home, which was filmed and posted on social media, and then left for dead at a local shelter. This sick act left Lumi’s body overtaken with tremors, However she is strong and survived!!! She will likely suffer long-term neurological damage. (tremors) The torture and abuse that has been inflicted on 1.5-year-old Chihuahua Lumi is beyond anything we could have imagined even in our worst nightmares. Lumi was recently dropped off at the Long Beach, CA animal shelter after being intentionally given methamphetamine by her owners’ teenage son. The entire horrific incident was filmed and posted on social media. By the time Lumi arrived at the shelter, she was suffering severe tremors and barely clinging to life. As soon as Open Arms Rescue was made aware of Lumi’s situation, we wasted no time getting her directly to the vet and she was immediately admitted to the hospital for life-saving care. Lumi spent several days in the hospital receiving medication through an IV. As a result of this inexplicable act, Lumi will likely suffer long-term or possibly permanent neurological damage. (tremors) She will need to be on medication for the rest of her life. THE GOOD NEWS is that she has come a long long way in her recovery and her tremors have mellowed out substantially since the beginning when we first rescued her. She plays, runs, interacts w/other small dogs and loves to be cuddled and snuggled. She will require meds for life and this is a cost of aprox. $100 per month. We would like her to go to a home where someone is home all the time to give her the attention and love she deserves. Our adoption fee through our rescue covers the dog being fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered, dewormed and flea treated. Charlie is small breed. Full grown long hair chihuahua mix. He was rescued at 2 months in a horrible situation. He was sterilized and has two vaccines. 🥹 Was tested for parvo distemper canine coronavirus 4dx. Loves all dogs and cats. He loves to cuddle and sleep under blankets. He is super loving and just a happy doggie. Donation fee is to help cover rescue expenses. ☺️ He knows to go outside for potty but has minor accidents. Which is normal. He is still a pup and learning. Only serious adopters. 🙏🏻
