Story
Luanna-AKA: Lulabell, Lulu, Cocoa Floof, Floof Luanna is a beautiful, sweet, special little girl. At four years old she is finally learning what it’s like to be loved, to live in a house and have comfy beds, instead of a crate. That’s how it is for dogs who have been used just to have one litter after another for a “backyard breeder” whose only concern is money. Lucky for Luanna, she was brought to a shelter when they were done with her. PAWS scooped her up, checked her out and sent her to NE. Here, she’s learning how a dog is loved and cherished. It has not been easy to make Lu understand that’s she’s special and deserving. So afraid, she still cowers when approached. But she has learned that she is safe and if she wants affection all she has to do is ask with a paw or two on your leg. She’s learned that there are beds of all kinds that she can sleep in and she enjoys them. But if she’s feeling anxious, or it’s really bedtime, she will go to her crate. Treats and cookies were new to her and, after many months, she’s starting to like them. But she will not take them from your hand. But Luanna’s biggest challenge is leash walking…. She wants nothing to do with it. It frightens her. But being a tiny girl, she can get enough exercise exploring her world at her pace in a safe place. So a fenced area is an absolute must for her. This is not negotiable. Leash walking could be an ongoing goal but it will take a lot of time and patience. Luanna needs a quiet home with very patient adults. Older, teenage kids would be ok but not younger ones. She’s not comfortable with them at all. Lu is housebroken, crate trained and will use a puppy pad if she must. She doesn’t bark much nor does she play with toys. But would be happy to be cuddled all day while you read or work or watch tv. But you have to earn her trust, which can take weeks. She likes her dog foster siblings and has learned how to play a bit. Another, calm dog in the house would be good for her, but not necessary. Luanna is a little ball of soft fluff who just wants to be loved. Her soft brown eyes will eventually look up at you with absolute adoration and you will melt. To get more info and talk to Luanna’s foster mom, please fill out an application. 🐾Name: LuannaBreed: ChihuahuaSex: FemaleAge: 4   (estimated)Weight: 8 lbsSpayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: NoGood with Dogs: With another small gentle dogGood with Cats: UnknownAdoption Fee: $450.00  (includes transport fee when applicable)Location of dog currently:  New EnglandIMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.  Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Brutus: DOB 7-14-2023 This darling little Chihuahua is all up to date on shots and ready to come home. This boy knows no stranger, everything he meets is his best friend! Not only is Brutus cute he has personality all over himself! Brutus is full of antics but loves to fall asleep in your arms while you are reading or watching TV. He will probably weigh around 7 pounds as an adult. His adoption fee is 800.00 and his transport fee is 165.00. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
