Story
Meet Rocky, a sweet 11-year-old senior pup looking for his new home. Rocky is 15 pounds of affection and will gladly give your hand (or your nose!) kisses when you greet him. He has a very chill personality and spends the majority of his day peacefully napping, but he also enjoys exploring the rescue. When he finds a blanket, he'll burrow tightly and wrap himself up like a little burrito. It's adorable (and impressive)! Rocky is mostly blind and does a pretty good job navigating, but will need some time to familiarize himself with the layout of his future home. He needs daily eye drops and isn't too fussy about us administering them. He's been living with 20 other dogs at our rescue and does great with everyone. Rocky has a large lipoma on his right side and a grade 2 heart murmur. He also has a broken tooth and will need a dental, which VPR will cover at our vet. Rocky is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and recently had full blood work. To apply to adopt Rocky, please fill out an application at vintagepetrescue.org/adopt

Story
Grandma Betty is looking for a retirement home where she can be loved and spoiled! At 13 years old, this sweet senior deserves a cozy life. Betty sleeps most of the day, curled into a tiny ball in one of our many dog beds. She can be picky with her food, but she seems to enjoy the Farmer's Dog food. She's good with the other dogs at our rescue, but she'll tell them off if they invade her space. Though she's only 6 pounds, Betty can be a bossy little bean when she wants to be! Betty has some weakness in her hind end, but gets around well. She also has iris atrophy, which is likely just age-related and doesn't affect her vision. She's up-to-date on vaccines and recently had bloodwork. She could benefit from a dental, but our vets are hesitant to put her under anaesthesia due to her age and body condition. If you're interested in adopting Betty, please submit an application at https://www.vintagepetrescue.org/adopt

Story
This dapper fellow is Shorty, being fostered in RI since arriving from Houston, TX where he was an owner surrender at a high intake shelter.  A sad scene for him, but Shorty is resilient and not emotionally fragile,  a quintessential big dog in a little body, self important and chock full of personality, and has dealt with his journey well.  A funny character who can fill a room and keep you laughing, he is a great companion. He knows what it is like to live a happy life in a home, loves his dog bed but is also pert and lively.  He has had some old injury, an ACL tear or slight patellar luxation, and tends to scoot around on three legs at faster gaits, but it does not seem to bother him, let alone slow him down.   Shorty is a long bodied Chihuahua mix of some sort, with that nice delicacy Chis can have.  Ultra sweet with his people, he loves his toys, is very playful and cooperative with other dogs, but he thinks cats are evil so does belong in a cat free home.   He was turned in by his owner reporting him to be six years of age....a bit grey through the face for that, but the vet we had do his health certificate didn't argue that age status, so it may just be his markings. Rescue is always a guess, lol, but what we don't have to guess on is that he is a readymade pet, does well in his crate, enjoys walks and is a very happy boy.  Housebroken overall but not immune to occasional accidents, and he can talk a lot so not ideal in a setting where noise might be an issue,  he will fit into a myriad of situations....a full family, single person or retiree.  Southpaws is happy to maintain its adoption fee at $450, but unfortunately we cannot adopt to residents of Massachusetts and New Hampshire due to state restrictions. For an application, or should you have any questions, please contact Lucy at maramuser@gmail.com

Story
Bear is an 18-month-old Chihuahua/scruffy terrier mix weighing just 9 pounds, but don’t let his size fool you — this little guy has a huge personality and an endless supply of joy. Playful, confident, and endlessly entertaining, Bear is a natural goofball who lives to make people laugh and dogs his best friends. Recently, Bear became a proud dog dad to six beautiful puppies born around October 10th. He came from a home that was overwhelmed with dogs and puppies, where the family simply didn’t have the resources to spay or neuter the adults. Despite the chaos of his early life, Bear has emerged happy, resilient, and full of love. One thing is very clear — Bear thrives when he has canine companionship. Having grown up surrounded by other dogs, he truly needs at least one young, active dog in his forever home to feel secure and content. He also benefits from humans who enjoy long, brisk walks, playtime, and interactive fun. Squeaky toys and rope toys are his absolute favorites. Bear is still learning the basics of pet life, but he’s making wonderful progress. He sleeps through the night in his crate and chooses it as his safe space during the day. He’s new to leash walking but is catching on quickly with daily practice, and his house-training is coming along nicely. Having just been neutered, Bear wears a belly band indoors while he learns not to mark — and he handles it like a champ. Bear is fantastic with other dogs and does well with cats, too. With his adorable wiry coat, bright eyes, and sharp mind, he’s eager to learn and will quickly pick up any manners or training his new family wants to teach. Despite a rough start, Bear’s happiness was never dimmed — in fact, it shines brighter each day in his calm, loving foster home. If you’re looking for a joyful little companion who will bring laughter, energy, and love into your life, Bear is ready to start fresh and be your loyal sidekick.   Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you’re interested in adopting Bear.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 14, 2025, 1:48 pm

Story
Meet Cheyenne — a delicate, dear-head Chihuahua with a heart as tender as her tiny 9-pound frame. At just three years old, she has already experienced more upheaval than any little dog should. She spent her life cherished by her mom, but when her owner became disabled and had to move in with friends, Cheyenne came along… only to be told she could no longer stay. It shattered her mom’s heart and left Cheyenne confused and frightened.   Cheyenne has lived a very sheltered, indoor life, and the changes of the past few months have left her understandably nervous. She needs time, patience, and a gentle hand to learn that her world can be safe again. Once she feels secure, she’ll quietly lean in, allow soft pets, and even offer a tiny kiss to show her trust.   This sweet girl isn’t demanding—she’s simply sensitive. She finds comfort in calm environments and absolutely needs another friendly dog in her new home. Having a canine companion gives her confidence and helps her settle. She loves cuddling with her dog friends, and in her foster home, her favorite cozy spot is tucked under a blanket where she feels warm and hidden.   Cheyenne is never aggressive or mean with other dogs, but energetic puppies are not her cup of tea—they’re a bit too lively for her peaceful spirit. What she truly wants is a patient, loving adopter who understands that trust is earned gently over time.   If you’re looking for a quiet, loyal little Chihuahua who will adore you once she knows she’s finally safe, Cheyenne may be your perfect match. With a secure, loving home, she will blossom into the devoted companion she’s meant to be.   Cheyenne is healthy, ready to go, and so deserving of her happily-ever-after.Email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com to meet this precious girl.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 14, 2025, 11:46 pm

Story
Meet Dakota — a handsome 3-year-old Deer Head Chihuahua with soulful eyes and an 8-pound frame that holds a world of emotion. Just three months ago, his life was turned upside down. His loving mom became seriously ill and had to leave her home in New York to stay with friends in Tennessee. She was told Dakota and his sister, Cheyenne, could come… but months later, that welcome was withdrawn. Heartbroken and with nowhere else to turn, their mom had to let them go.   Critter Cavalry Rescue stepped in immediately—because dogs who lose everything deserve a chance to feel safe again.   Dakota is still processing all the sudden changes in his young life. He is gentle and sweet, but understandably nervous, especially after living in a place where he wasn’t truly wanted. At first, he may hesitate when you reach out—but with a little patience, he leans in, softens, and may even offer a tiny kiss to show he’s trying to trust.   He finds comfort with other dogs—especially his sister—and loves to cuddle with them or burrow under a blanket when he feels unsure. Dakota is pee-pad trained, walks well on a leash, and loves following his foster mom from room to room, quietly seeking connection and reassurance.   More than anything, Dakota needs stability, a calm home, and someone who truly understands the tender nature of Chihuahuas. With love, patience, and a kind heart, he will blossom into the devoted, affectionate boy he so badly wants to be.   At Critter Cavalry Rescue, we promise dogs like Dakota that their heartbreak isn’t the end of their story. They will learn to trust again—and we are looking for the person who will help him do just that.   If you can picture yourself being the one to help Dakota heal, contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.This deserving little boy is ready for a gentle, loving forever home   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 20, 2025, 12:12 am
