Story
I'm Jack, a spirited 3-year-old Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix with a white and tan coat and a heart full of adventure! 🐕 I'm neutered and ready to bring playful energy and affection to my forever home — I'm great with dogs and kids, so I'll fit right into an active family. Fair warning: cats aren't really my thing, so I'd do best as your solo feline-free buddy. At 17 pounds, I'm the perfect size for cuddles and adventures alike, and my adoption fee is $200. Come meet me and discover why I'm the spirited companion you've been looking for! ❤️ apply at havenandheartrescue.org

Story
Maeve is an 11 year old Chihuahua who was dumped on the streets of Peoria, Illinois in critical condition. She was covered in fleas, painfully underweight, her nails overgrown and her trust in people just about gone. All signs point to her being a former backyard breeder dog, discarded when she was no longer useful. But here is the thing about Maeve.....She did not give up. Fast forward to today and Maeve is still 11....just wiser, softer and quietly hopeful. She is sweet, loving and trying so hard to believe that the rest of her life can be better than everything before. She would thrive as the only dog in the home. She is not a fan of other dogs but she does well with cats. Because of her past small children are not in her picture. She is house trained, but cannot manage stairs. This little girl does not need much - just calm, understanding home and a human who sees her worth and gets her!

Story
Little man alert! Bernie is an adorable 6.5 lb chihuahua that is dog and cat friendly! He loves lap sitting, play time, and car rides equally. Bernie is your typical chi when exploring new situations in that it takes in a second to figure what is going on but he's a total gem. Bernie was a stray on the streets of Peoria, Illinois and went unclaimed. Animal control was overwhelming and he is thriving in a foster home! Bernie would love a home with older kids and people that can shower him with attention. He's housebroken and crate trained!

Story
We can't have a Bonnie without a Clyde! Clyde was terrified at animal control, and he showed teeth to just about everyone. He LOVES other dogs, and quickly started to trust his foster mom. Sometimes, they just need patience and love. This is why foster families are SO important! Clyde was at risk of euthanasia due to his fear-based aggression. This poor little guy was just misunderstood. He is just 3-years-old, and he is a little plump at 12-pounds. We think he's likely a Chihuahua/JRT mix. Clyde must have another friendly dog in his forever home. He would be best in a family without young children. Someone who can continue to help him to trust strangers would be ideal. Clyde is good on a leash, in the car, likes to cuddle, and he likes to play. He is fine in a crate, but you have to let him come out on his own time. He is terrified if you try to pull him out manually. Can you help bring joy to a little lad like Clyde? If so, he promises to return that love in spades. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $345. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. We are located in Bloomington, IL We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state. Your current pets must be up-to-date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heart worm prevention year round. You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt. Please have your veterinarian and two non-family reference phone numbers ready. The app makes you start all over if you leave the page to look up numbers. Story
Behind those sweet little eyes, miss Molly has had quite the past before being rescued. Molly is an 8-year-old, 8-pound Chihuahua. She was recovered from a hoarding home that had caught on fire. When officials pulled Molly from the home she was not breathing, and her gums were blue from lack of oxygen and smoke inhalation! She was rushed to our vet clinic where she was hospitalized to save her life. While there they discovered she was pregnant. She recovered well with vet care but unfortunately, she lost her puppies as they were born premature due to the stress of the fire and her rescue. Molly is still shy and prefers to watch the action from a safe and comfy blanket. But, she is opening up a little more each day. Molly will come snuggle next to you for some pets and attention (especially if treats are involved). She would be best in a home with another dog who is confondent and friendly. Molly does well with dogs her size but has not been around large dogs, cats, or small children due to her nervousness. She can be crated, doesn’t mind car rides, and likes time out of doors. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog Her minimum adoption donation amount is $275. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea and heart worm preventatives. Story
If quiet souls are your favorite kind, Betsy just might steal your heart. At only 1 year old and 8 pounds, this precious Chihuahua is learning that life can be kind. Betsy came from a heartbreaking hoarding situation with 130 other dogs, so the world is still a big, unfamiliar place to her. She isn’t fearful forever—she just needs a little time, patience, and someone who understands that trust is earned. One thing that gives Betsy confidence? Other small dogs! She absolutely needs a friendly, confident canine companion in her forever home to show her the ropes and help her continue blossoming. Watching another dog enjoy life helps Betsy realize she can too. She is crate trained, rides well in the car, and is potty pad trained. Leashes are still new to her, so she’ll need a secure home and a family willing to let her learn at her own pace. Because sudden movements and loud activity can be overwhelming, Betsy is looking for a home without small children. Cats are unknown. There was a brief moment when we thought Betsy was expecting puppies, but it turned out to be a false (pseudo) pregnancy. She has now been spayed, is healthy, and is more than ready to begin the next chapter of her life. Betsy isn’t looking for perfection—she’s looking for patience, gentle encouragement, and a home where she can continue discovering just how wonderful life can be. The day she finally chooses your lap, follows you from room to room, or wags her tail with confidence will be a moment you’ll never forget. Could you be the family that shows Betsy what love has always been meant to feel like? ❤️ Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog Her minimum adoption donation amount is $375 She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives.
