Story
Meet Scout, an adorable 20lb Terrier/Chi/Cattle Dog type mix who came from local animal control as an unclaimed stray. He is a very sweet boy who loves to be with people and receive attention. He knows sit and paw and will happily offer those commands whenever you would like, sometimes even when you are not asking for them. He has not been a fan of other dogs since arriving at the shelter. Scout has lots of energy and is working on leash manners. Because of his dog reactivity, he will need some work on walks. A fenced yard would be great for him. He does love to run around, chase toys, and sniff in the grass. He can tend to grab the leash to try to tug or be a little mouthy when he gets excited. He is looking for a home with no children or other dogs.

Story
Meet Chewy, a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix, weighing about 16 pounds. He was found as a stray and never reclaimed, so now he is looking for a forever home! Chewy is very nervous and was mortified when he first came to us. He has made tremendous strides, though, and now enjoys pets and hanging out with his people. Chewy will need patience as he adjusts and gets to know you and starts to trust. Fast movements can spook him, but we have made lots of progress as far as leashing/unleashing and petting. He loves to go outside with his people to run around, sniff, and play with squeaky plush toys. He does chase the toys when thrown, but he likes to hold them instead of bringing them back. Chewy has met a few similar sized dogs and done okay. He does tend to match the energy of the other dogs, so if the other dog isn’t a fan, neither is Chewy. He has run around outside in a run next to one of our medium dogs and seemed to get excited when she got the zoomies. We are hoping with time and patience in a home, he will blossom! Chewy is looking for a home without children. It would be beneficial for an adopter to have experience with nervous dogs or finicky chihuahuas.Chewy has some allergies that were causing him to have a lot of skin irritation and upset stomach. He is now on a fish-based diet (Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach- Salmon and Rice) as well as Apoquel, once daily, which helped tremendously. He will need to be on this long term.

Story
Marty is the cutest little dog! He is a sweet senior looking to have a loving home for his golden years. He is about 9.5 years old and weighs just at 22lbs. He was actually adopted out from WCHS in 2023 and was recently returned due to his owner having health issues. He’s back at the shelter, loving all the staff and volunteers but he really wants to be in a home! He is kid friendly and is good with dogs, but he can be protective of his owners so having him be the only dog in the household will lead to a happier life for all! He is fully vetted, appears housebroken and loves walks, pets and his favorite….belly rubs!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Vin Diesel and I'm a senior, male chihuahua.  I just had a dental so my teeth are in pretty okay shape now.  I'm great with other dogs and cats and also respectful kids.  I'm of course hoping to enjoy my retirement ages in a calmer home though.  I walk very well on a leash and love going for car rides.  I'm also potty trained and know my basic commands.  I have great manners and would make an amazing addition to most households.  I'm fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $400 To adopt Vin Diesel, fill out an application at www.kakf.org/formsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 13, 2025, 1:53 pm

Story
Meet Lily — a 2-year-old Terrier mix with a heart full of sweetness and a bright future ahead! When Lily first arrived at her foster home, everything was new and a little overwhelming. She preferred the comfort of her crate and needed some encouragement to feel safe. With gentle patience, hand-fed meals, cozy carries to the yard, and lots of soft ear rubs, Lily slowly began to trust. Before long she was eating, drinking, and exploring on her own — and once she started going outside regularly, she hasn’t had a single accident in the house. Leashes were also a brand-new concept for her, but a few tasty chicken treats and lots of practice worked wonders! Now she enjoys going out on a long lead in the yard or taking relaxed walks around the neighborhood like a little pro. Just two weeks after settling in, Lily surprised everyone by giving birth to five beautiful puppies. She was a wonderful, devoted mama, but with her pups growing big and independent, Lily is finally ready for a life that’s all her own. Today, Lily is blossoming into a fun, affectionate, silly young dog. She loves: Playing with soft toys and chew toys Zooming around the house Wrestling and running with her foster brother Going for walks Sneaking off with the occasional sock (her guilty pleasure!) She knows how to sit for treats and sits patiently to have her harness put on. During the day she curls up next to her foster mom for naps, and at night she snoozes soundly on a comfy chair in her cozy gated room. Her breed mix is a mystery, though a dog-ID app suggested she resembles a Danish-Swedish Farmdog. Whatever she is, she’s adorable — especially those velvety ears that perk up like Baby Yoda when something interesting catches her attention. If you’re looking for a small, gentle, intelligent, and incredibly sweet companion, Lily just might be your girl. She’s ready for love, adventure, and a forever family who will help her continue to shine. Could Lily be your new best friend?   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
Hi there! I’m Pancake, a boy born around 10/2 with a big personality packed into my tiny 3-pound body. My mom is only 10 pounds, so I’ll probably stay pretty small too - the perfect size for your lap… which is great, because that’s my favorite place to be. When I’m not curled up in a warm cuddle puddle, I’m bouncing around like a happy little Chihuahua-mix firecracker. I zoom, I play, I explore, then I flop over for another nap. It’s a good system. I sleep quietly in my crate at night like a very good boy. I’m still learning about potty training, but I promise I’m trying! I love other dogs, and I’m super gentle and wiggly with kids - my foster home has both, and I think they’re wonderful. If you’re looking for a tiny buddy with a huge heart (and excellent snuggle skills), I’d love to meet you! I will do best in homes with kids 8 and older and a family home much of the day to help me grow into a happy and trained adult!
