Story
Monty is currently enjoying his time in a foster home! Monty's foster mom says:Monty is a grumpy old man, but with a lot of love still to give. He gives sweet little kisses but grumbles when I kiss him. He loves burrowing under blankets. He has been a picky eater and since he was so skinny, I'm spoiling him with hamburger and chicken. Part of that may have been his dental issues with abscessed teeth which are now resolved. He is a screamer when you try to do things he doesn't like - putting on his collar or his sweater. Makes me think he has been abused before and screams when he is scared. As he gets more secure in feeling safe, I hope that resolves. He comes when called inside and outside. He is mostly potty trained but has marked since he wasn't neutered. He will have accidents if not taken out every couple hours. Puppy pads help during the day.He deserves someone to show him love for the rest of his days. You wont regret the time you have with him.

Story
Peanut Butter was transferred to TAPS from Peoria County Animal Control where he was surrendered, reason unknown. The paperwork reports that he would do well with kids, dogs and cats. Based on his shelter behavior, we would not recommend toddlers. Any adopter will need to be patient as he transitions to his forever home.Peanut Butter is currently in a foster home and thriving. He is a very easy foster. He does great with the other dogs large and small. He has settled in and will roll over for belly rubs. He is potty trained, but did need an adjustment period when first arriving to our home and sometimes has to be coaxed to go outside. He likes to sleep next to his human especially under a blanket. He is so cute when you get come and will do zoomies and lick you. His foster mom is asking that his adoptive home have a fenced in yard, and another dog due to his separation anxiety. Adoption Fee: $100Estimated Date of Birth: 2/15/2019Intake Reason: Return - anxiety and lack of potty trainingAnimal will be spayed and up to date on vaccines, and microchipped prior to adoption. If their kennel card on display at TAPS shelter facility is marked as unaltered, the animal will be altered prior to being released for adoption. Animal stage may change from time to time based on surgery and medical status. TAPS strives to keep kennel cards as up to date as possible with current information but from time to time, information may change and a new kennel card may be pending. Full and current vaccination schedule and medical records along with any behavioral disclosures will be provided at time of adoption.

Story
Gary. We all love Gary. He doesn't seem to know a lot of commands but he has learned "kennel up" during his time at TAPS. He loves going on walks with a toy in his mouth and just enjoying the outdoors watching his surroundings. He loves soft toys, the bigger the better and doesn't not destroy them here at the shelter. He walks well on leash too. He doesn't dart of his kennel and waits to be leashed up. Gary doesn't cuddle in the traditional way but does lean against you with his whole body and head. He's a sweet and proper boy. Gary does get timid very easily and sometimes won't look you in the eye so a home with a lot of activity and visitors or young and active children probably would not be a good fit. Gary weighs 15 poundsAdoption Fee: $100Estimated Date of Birth: 2/10/2019Intake Reason: Transfer, original intake unknownAnimal will be spayed and up to date on vaccines, and microchipped prior to adoption. Story
Uncle Bud entered the shelter system when his elderly owner passed away. He is reported to be dog and cat friendly and per the surrender form was using potty pads but while staying with a family member and with another dog, he was marking in the home. He will be neutered prior to adoption so in time, those tendencies may decrease, but also, as he settles into his new home, those tendencies will decrease as well but any adopter should be patient through potty training and the marking transition. Uncle Bud is now in a foster home and he is very easy to care for. He does well with my large and small dogs. He likes to run in our fenced yard. He goes potty outside, but does occasionally mark but not very often. He is left out while I am at work with no issues. He is charming and a sweet little guy. I have seen him do well with kids too.The surrender paperwork indicated that he is friendly with everyone, and despite being a bit nervous, we don't have concerns but his vet records reports that he does have a bite record on file with our local animal control. Though we don't know the circumstances, it was from 3 years ago when a caretaker entered the home and brought their child along. Based on this information, we would suggest no toddlers and keeping Uncle Bud contained when visitors enter the home.

Story
Angel alert! Lainey is a 2-year-old Long-haired Chihuahua mix. She weighs just 8-pounds, and she's sooo incredibly soft with the most beautiful markings. Lainey was said to be fearful upon meeting new people. But, she warms up to women very quickly. She's a huge snuggle bug, who gets along well with other small dogs. She absolutely hated/was terrified of the veterinarian. But, we don't know if that's due to his being a male, or just because he's the vet. Lol! Give this girl a chance, and you will never be lonely again. She's seriously such a good dog! She is crate and potty trained, good on a leash, in the car, and for sure in a lap. Please, no young children. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog Her minimum adoption donation amount is $325. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. We are located in Bloomington, IL We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state. Your current pets must be up-to-date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heart worm prevention year round. You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt. Story
Skip! Skippity doodah is an 11-year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua mix. Skip's dad sadly away. Now Skip is hoping someone will give him a new home. He is truly adorable, timid but sweet, and loves to give kisses once he knows you. Skip is good on a leash, fine in a crate, quiet in the car, and would be okay with other laid back dogs. But, young kids and really rambunctious dogs would be too much for him. Skip likes to cuddle, but is willing to play too. He's the perfect balance of fun and calm. Skip is now our longest resident, and we aren't sure why. :,( He decided to advocate for himself with these words: "Hey you! My name's Skip. But you can call me Skipper because I'm in need of a first mate. I like to be the boss so I'd do okay as an only dog in the home, but having some laid back dogs around would be fine too. I'm very good at telling you how to make my meals but I'll eat them on my own schedule. I'll also let you know when I'm done in the yard (please be sure to have a fence). I'm a fair weather skipper so I like naps and rolling in the yard when it's sunny and warm, but limit my time outside if it's rainy or cold. It's hard to admit, but I'm not the best at telling you when I need to go out so frequent trips outside are helpful. My foster parents make me wear "pants" around the house as a precaution, but I am never fussy about putting them on. I can be a big sweetheart too so If you want to put me in your lap I'll give you plenty of kisses and I always appreciate a snuggly nap. Dog beds are a MUST, so make sure those are always available... a skipper needs his beauty rest. I'm really good in a crate and am happy to nap in there too. As much as I love to nap, I REALLY love to go on walks. My foster dad says I shave a whole minute per mile off his walking pace when we go out, so yeah... I'm fast... even if I don't walk straight all the time *shrug*. Like any skipper, I have a few quirks. I'm nervous around strangers (who isn't??). Things that shouldn't scare me make me jump (doors closing or stepping on crackly leaves). Things that SHOULD scare me I ignore (Roomba's, moving vehicles, lawnmowers). Sometimes I don't recognize familiar people or dogs so I can get a little barky but am never aggressive (duh, I'm the boss). I also don't trust shadows so sometimes I just bark at nothing (just like every good skipper should). All that to say, I know once you meet me you will look past any of my quirks. Now be an obedient first mate, and use those big paws to fill out an application and come work for me... your trustworthy Skipper. Sound like a match for you? Then, please apply: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $245. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. Story
Bugsy Malone is a chiweenie (Chihuahua/dachshund) who is 8-pounds and 7-years-old. Bugsy has the typical big Doxie voice, so he shouldn't go anywhere with shared walls (I.e apartments, condos). He likes to cuddle, will play with other small dogs and toys, watch television while in your lap, walks well on a leash, and likes to cruise around in the car with you. But, he needs a really secure harness as he is a Houdini with many harnesses. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $295. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. Story
Corky: 8-year-old, 7-pound Chihuahua. This poor dude has been misunderstood his whole life. His fear hasn't been worked with until he went to a temp foster after his mom and dad passed away. She showed Corky that he could be brave and trust. His next foster only needed 24 hours to be his best friend. In fact he now howls for attention. This little guy used to have to be sedated for nail trims. His recent visit to the vet for a neuter and dental went so smoothly! Once Corky trusts you, he's an angel! He loves other dogs and cats too. An experienced dog owner is best for this little man. No kids please! Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $275. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives.
