Story
Baxter first came to Chihuahua Rescue 4 years ago when he was almost one year old. He was surrendered back to the Rescue along with Matilda, who is called Tilly, and who LOVES her bond mate, Bubba Baxter. They were surrendered to Chihuahua Rescue after their owner developed serious health issues and was no longer able to care for them. Potty training was not enforced in Baxter's previous household, so we re-emphasized that skill. He made good progress and is pretty reliable, especially since we got his urinary tract infection treated. He's also crate trained now. Baxter was very overweight upon his return, so with the efforts outlined below we got him back to a healthy weight. Feeding a measured amount of weight-loss food, limiting treats, no human food and getting good exercise in the yard has done the trick; he is at his goal weight! Baxter does have a tendency to bolt out the door if given the chance, so potential adopters should have a securely fenced yard. Baxter has settled in well into his foster's household. His shots are back up to date and he is heartworm negative and back on preventive. Baxter has a very loud bark and uses it to indicate his desires or notify the household of approaching strangers, so he would not be ideal in a shared-wall situation. 10/31/22 CG, updated 11/18/22, 1/11/23, 2/16/23, 4/10/23

Story
My name is Hector, but my foster mommy calls me Taco. My brother and I were found running around a strange neighborhood by a really nice lady that took us to her Vet clinic. The Chihuahua Rescue took us in and our foster mommy made us feel safe again. My brother and I like to cuddle with each other, but prefer to cuddle with our foster mom. We just want a forever home again and a warm lap to cuddle on again. Hector is current on vaccines, has had a one year proheart shot for heartworms, microchipped, and neutered. At their last exam, Hector has a bad heart murmur that has caused him to start coughing. The Vet now has him on daily heart medication and cough meds. His coughing has slowed down. The boys will come with their own cage and bed that they are comfortable with. Do you have love for this bonded pair of senior boys?

Story
Bandit is a very loving, sweet dog. He is playful, especially likes to play fetch. All vet needs are up to date. He loves to curl up on your lap for a nap. His previous owner could no longer care for him. Bandit is housebroken but likes to mark. He looks cute wearing a belly band at his foster home. It takes him a while to warm up to new people. If you’re looking for a great companion, Bandit would be great for you. Fostered by sphil

Story
Hi, my name is Buddy Love, at 4 years old, I’m as smooth as Tennessee whisky (smooth charmer, that is), I’m as sweet as strawberry wine, once I get to know you and my nerves have subsided, I’m as warm as a glass of brandy, when I snuggle up to you and fall sleep on your lap. But this takes time and patience from my new people. I love to take walks and play fetch. I’m not so fond of car rides but will go quietly if I’m secure in a crate. Once you get to know me, I’ll be your Buddy for life. As Buddy’s foster my experience has been that he is very sweet, a little bit pushy when it comes to getting pets, but definitely a lover of laps. Buddy has had a couple of trial adoptions that haven’t worked out, the stress of a new place seems to make him a bit snappy. So, perhaps he needs a calm and quiet introduction into the family, letting him get used to his surroundings, building trust in his new people. Further observations about Buddy: Buddy needs to get exercise to be a happy boy, walks, games, he loves playing fetch. If that's not something you will do with your pet then this isn't the dog your home. Buddy isn't great with people he isn't used to, and he needs routine and familiarity. If your home is busy with lots of noise and coming and going, this isn't the right pet for you. He isn't a pet for little kids, although he has been with kids, he's not reliably calm around children/guests/strangers. He IS a darling pet. He has so much love to give and has a ton of personality. If you are interested in this pet, please apply to set up a meeting with Buddy and his foster.

Story
Matilda Rose, who is called Tilly, (the middle dog in the picture of 3, and the light brown one in all the other pictures) is a dignified older lady who LOVES her bond mate, Bubba Baxter (the black dog in all the other pictures). They were surrendered to Chihuahua Rescue after their previous owner developed serious health issues and was no longer able to care for them. Potty training was not enforced in Tilly's previous household, so we have re-emphasized that skill. She does well with frequent trips outside and access to potty pads in the house. Tilly loves pets and cuddles; she's happiest in her human's lap. She's quiet and settled well into her new household. Her shots are up to date. She is heartworm negative and back on preventive. Tilly is very bow-legged in the rear due to chronically dislocated kneecaps, which the vet says are not fixable with surgery. We have a supplement to keep her knees comfortable as she ages because she is at risk for arthritis. Tilly also has a significant heart murmur, though no actual symptoms of heart disease. 10/31/22 CG, updated 11/18/22, 4/10/23
