Story
Hi, I’m Manny! I’m about 4 years old, I’m house and crate trained, I know how to sit, and I’ll be your best friend. However, I have some criteria that I need from you. I take a minute to warm up to new people, and I don’t particularly appreciate too much love. I will ask for pets when I want them, but don’t get carried away. My favorite thing? Foot pets!!! Let me rub my body on your feet and I’m in heaven! Another thing I love is food. Big food guy! Dogs? I’m good with dogs! I have two foster siblings and I’m super respectful about their space. My foster family says I’m the most perfect dog and all I truly need is someone who will respect my space. I get so excited when my people get home from work. I may bark at new guests, but if they just ignore me, I’ll ignore them. I walk pretty well on a leash, though I like to lead the way! No kids for me please! They move too fast and scare me. If you’re interested in seeing if we are a match, fill out the adoption application!

Story
Meet Finny. He’s got the biggest personality I’ve ever seen. He loves balls. And his one person. He is only 11 lbs but is protective over his one person. He’s not good with cats. They are his bitter ultimate enemy, and is not good with children. Did I say he has a big personality? He does. He will grumble and growl when he wants to play and you’re not playing. He will boss and control the 75 lb dog at his foster house, he will tell the Amazon person all about how they are not welcome. But this teeny ball of chaos snuggles and loves his one person just as hard if not more than his silly antics. He is still working on potty training outside but seems to do decently well with puppy training pads. He is an excellent friend on car rides and loves camping and adventure. He will be the perfect friend for someone who loves to laugh, doesn’t mind his possessiveness over his ONE person and has no cats. Finn's adoption fee is $250 and he will come fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchip. If you'd like to meet Finn, please visit www.helpingpawsonline.com/adoption-aplication and complete an application today!

Story
Baxter first came to Chihuahua Rescue 5 years ago when he was almost one year old. He was surrendered back to the Rescue along with Matilda, who is called Tilly. They were surrendered to Chihuahua Rescue after their owner developed serious health issues and was no longer able to care for them. Potty training was not enforced in Baxter's previous household, so we re-emphasized that skill. He made good progress and is pretty reliable, especially since we got his urinary tract infection treated. He's also crate trained now. Baxter was very overweight upon his return, so with the efforts outlined below we got him back to a healthy weight. Feeding a measured amount of weight-loss food, limiting treats, no human food and getting good exercise in the yard has done the trick; he is at his goal weight! Baxter does have a tendency to bolt out the door if given the chance, so potential adopters should have a securely fenced yard. Baxter has settled in well into his foster's household. His shots are back up to date and he is heartworm negative and back on preventive. Baxter has a very loud bark and uses it to indicate his desires or notify the household of approaching strangers, so he would not be ideal in a shared-wall situation. Baxter is particularly not a fan of big dogs. 10/31/22 CG, updated 11/18/22, 1/11/23, 2/16/23, 4/10/23

My name is Jairo, but my foster mommy calls me Nacho. I was found running around a strange neighborhood by a really nice lady that took me to her Vet clinic. The Chihuahua Rescue took me in and my foster mommy made me feel safe again. I just want a forever home again and a warm lap to cuddle on again. I am a really sweet boy and love to lay on your lap for lovin's!! Sometimes I'll play with toys and even with my foster siblings!! Jairo is current on vaccines, has had a one year proheart shot for heartworms, microchipped, and neutered. At his last exam, a heart murmur was found. He is now on daily heart meds. He will come with his own cage and bed that he is comfortable with. Do you have room in your heart for this sweet little senior boy?

Story
Bandit is a very loving, sweet dog. He is playful, especially likes to play fetch. All vet needs are up to date. He loves to curl up on your lap for a nap. His previous owner could no longer care for him. Bandit is housebroken and does great as long as you offer lots of breaks and notice his cues of needing to go outdoors. It takes him a while to warm up to new people. Bandit has some very chihuahua behaviors, he loves "his" person, and will keep others away by doing a dance around the feet of the tstranger and he "might" take a nip at the ankle. Its not representative of Bandit's overall super sweet and enjoyable personality. He likes to get up by your face and lay his head on you and then takes his paw and pats you on the face. Its darling, and almost cat-like. If you’re looking for a great companion, Bandit would be great for you. Bandit just had his teeth cleaned at the vet and he is current on flea and heartworm meds as well as routine vaccines. He's not a big eater, he does like treats, and he is crate trained. He is fine with other friendly dogs. Bandit's adoption fee is $350 and he's ready for adoption now. Fostered by sphil

Story
Matilda Rose, who is called Tilly, (the middle dog in the picture of 3, and the light brown one in all the other pictures) is a dignified older lady who LOVES her bond mate, Bubba Baxter (the black dog in all the other pictures). They were surrendered to Chihuahua Rescue after their previous owner developed serious health issues and was no longer able to care for them. Potty training was not enforced in Tilly's previous household, so we have re-emphasized that skill. She does well with frequent trips outside and access to potty pads in the house. Tilly loves pets and cuddles; she's happiest in her human's lap or right next to them on the couch or chair. She's quiet and settled well into her new household. Her shots are up to date. She is heartworm negative and back on preventive. Tilly is very bow-legged in the rear due to chronically dislocated kneecaps, which the vet says are not fixable with surgery. We have her on a joint supplement to keep her knees comfortable as she ages because she is at risk for arthritis. Tilly also has a significant heart murmur, though no actual symptoms of heart disease. She takes medication for her heart. 10/31/22 CG, updated 11/18/22, 4/10/23

Story
Meet Pygmy, the 4-year-old, 53 lb bundle of quirks and charm! Hailing from a farm, Pygmy had a bit of a "barkument" with a goat once (let's just say they didn't exchange friendship bracelets). While Pygmy might not be on speaking terms with goats, he's looking for a drama-free life elsewhere. He's a wildlife enthusiast, so outside adventures might involve a bit of "wildlife-watching," and he's quite the vocal storyteller!Pygmy's a professional at tippy-tapping when excited and could definitely hold his own in a singing contest (the audience might need some earplugs). He's looking for a cat-free zone, but in all other aspects, he's a sweetheart. If you have dogs at home, bring them for a meet-and-greet at the shelter to see if they hit it off. If you're ready to welcome a furry friend who's full of character, Pygmy's here to bring joy and plenty of amusing adventures to your life!

If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website, for details about our fees and process, and to complete our Adoption Application.   ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis.  We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.  Mouse is a very spirited and sassy girl with a lot to say. She has acclimated very well to my home, and she has proven to be a very sweet little lady. Whether she’s pouncing around on her toys or snuggling under the blankets in bed with you at night, she is always doing so with a smile on her face. Yes, I swear she smiles. She has proven to be fairly potty trained as far as I can tell, and she does wonderful on a leash and in a kennel if needed. With various other dogs in my home, I can confidently say she does well with other dogs of all sizes and temperaments. She has yet to meet a cat, but I think she’d do great with them. Mouse will be a great addition to any home, and I can’t wait to see her find her people. If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please complete the online Adoption Application.  If you would like to donate to this pet's care, please click here. Story
A partner rescue contacted Misty Eyes about an emergency intake...a little senior Chihuahua-mix male dog who had been on the run for several weeks. No one claimed him, and he seemed to need medical care. Misty Eyes brought Trooper in so that he could get the care he needed. He is estimated to be about 11 years old and is missing many teeth, as well as part of his jaw bone. He also had a rather large mass on his right hip, which proved to be benign. He is a real love-bug who is a serious lap dog. He gets along with other dogs and even met a cat without being bothered. Now that he's fixed up and is in relatively good health, Trooper will make a wonderful companion pup. If you'd like to know more about him, please submit an adoption application online at https://www.mistyeyes.org/adoptionapplication.

Story
Meet Remy Pasqual! He is believed to be a 4-year-old Jack Russell Chihuahua blend. Never enough love can ever be too much. Remy needs his happiness forever. He's been with me for 3 years and yes he had major behavior issues but that's no longer who he is. He lives to be touched by everyone, loved, good with dogs and cats, and ok as an only dog too. He is active love being active outdoors chills indoors, enjoys swimming hiking trails adventures boat rides, and has been canoeing and loved it. He is amazingly easy-trained and exceptionally off-leash trained. Lives agility and car rides. Yeah, he's a bit clingy but people enjoy this. Can guard his humans if his humans allow it. Hates his nails trimmed and is not a fan of baths but not hard if it means showering with his ppl. Remy is extraordinarily motivated by love, affection, praise, and food. He loves to be held or happily not being held. He is dramatic emotionally driven by passion and falls deeply in love. If this is you, all this ☝️ but feel he won't keep up with you during outdoor adventures. Yeah, he will. Remy can walk 5 miles without effort. I guarantee he can run them too if build-up to it. He is a very proud pup and always so eager to please. Remy is somewhat ADHD, and a goof at times, and can come across as neurotic with his silly dramatic personality but he is not. Remy enjoys his training sessions and learning new things. He enjoys showing off his tricks and obedience training every chance he can. Remy is a social butterfly fueled but love. Remy has been with us for over 3 years and at first, he required a lot of work. But im happy I accepted the challenge. His energy is charismatic. We help switch his mindset with socialization, training, and discovery of what he enjoyed which made training fun. Remy is great with dogs, and cats, and adores every human he meets. He is extremely smart and appreciates his daily walks, training sessions are always fun, and learning new tricks is his joy. Remy is also a sweetheart and loves to snuggle and loved on. He is obsessed with his super mutt harness and cape. It's his comfort wear. Remy is crate and house-trained but does well with a belly band. Remy is incredible at agility, a running friend, and cycling is perpetually fun! He loves to be active and loves learning even more. Remy enjoys city strolls and cafe shops, a good run of spooning comfortably shrugged in hour arms binge-watching Netflix. He's the best of both worlds. Remy is a very affectionate pup and more so of a Velcro dog but on the active side. Remy has a cute funny prankster personality. He enjoys speaking which comes across as intimidating but it's nothing more than him communicating. He smiles and shows off his pearly whites. He does this when asked or if he wants someone's attention. Remy enjoys playing with his toys too. Remy is known as a positive-natured outdoor activity fun little dude. What he does not care for is baths but does ok, sleeping in is no fun but he snuggles or is ignored. Remy is house and crate trained, current to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto & corona, 1 or 3-year rabies,  dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped including free registration for life, spay/neutered, heartworm & lyme diseases tested negative upon adoption,  and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. We do NOT ship and meet and greet are required before adoption unless you are a previous adopter. Previous adopters of AHS have the first choice and are not expected to pay another adoption fee again.  Donation of their choice is welcomed. Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continued training is a must. Adoption process information can be found on our website www.animalhousesanctuary.org The Adoption Fee of $300 covers all of the above and everyday needs/care.

Story
Sharkey! This guy is a very special pet! The name Sharkey is somewhat descriptive, as "Sharkey" can be a little bit "spicey". He will warm up to his person, and he will allow petting but will be a guy who needs to be handled with care. Sharkey has an unfortunate story of prior life, He was an "outdoor" dog, who came to rescue in poor shape. He had a skin condition that needed attention and was complicated by his matted fur. His dedicated foster mom took in Sharkey and got through his mats, gave him prescribed meds for his skin condition and got him on healthy foods to turn him around completely. He is happy to go outdoors, he eats a healthy diet and will sleep in an exercise pen or larger kennel. He will go in and out with a little direction, and a secure fenced area is a must. Sharkey is happy to go outdoors, but he's also VERY happy to come back in and settle on a soft bed or cushion. Sharkey will do well in a home where he is the only pet, or with one other calm and balanced pet. Sharkey's protective of his personal space. As long as there is an understanding of what is a comforting and welcoming environment for Sharkey, he will do well. Chihuahua Rescue is delighted to have taken in this pet and given him a chance of a loving forever home. We are confident he will be someone's EVERYTHING if given a chance. Sharkey is not recommended to be in a home with children and should go to an adopter experienced in handling a special needs pet. Please inquire about this pet in need and be prepared to have a most grateful companion!
