Story
Foxy (formerly Toffee) was transferred from an overcrowded facility to give her a better chance at finding her forever family. She is still a puppy, thought to be around 4-5 months old and weighing just over 6 lbs. Foxy is likely to stay relatively small, but will gain some weight and height over the next few months. She is believed to be a mix of Dachshund and Chihuahua – affectionately known as a Chiweenie! As with all puppies, she will need ongoing training, plenty of attention and playtime, and some extra patience and love to help her become the best dog she can be. If a petite pup is your ideal companion, look no further! *Foxy is in foster care. Meet & Greets can be arranged for approved applicants. *Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure he/she is a great fit. If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you! Foxy is too young to be spayed. Her adoption fee is $200 and an additional $200 deposit is required, which will be refunded upon proof of spaying Date of Arrival: February 2026 Breeds: Chihuahua and Dachshund Age & Weight: 4-5 months and currently about 6 lbs. Health info: She will have had age appropriate vaccinations and a microchip provided.

Story
He needs someone who can spend more time than I have available. I’m going to school full time while also being a full time solo mom. He came to me from someone who supposedly had him pad trained but he never was consistent, and I tried to train him outside but he refuses to go outside here(busy street constant traffic scares him). He absolutely hates being home alone but has to be in a crate because he freaks out and scratches door ways. He also hates the crate he barks the whole time I’m gone. He just isn’t happy and I don’t have the knowledge or skills to deal with the separation anxiety or house training issues. He’s a good dog otherwise. I just can’t have him peeing and pooping wherever with a toddler. He needs way more time than I can give him and he deserves someone who can maybe be with him all day training and caring for him. He would do better with someone who needs a companion but also has patience and knowledge on training and separation anxiety issues.

Story
Mickie is my parents dog. My parents are 87 years old and entering a nursing home - cannot have him anymore. I believe Mickie is 4 years old, very healthy. Taken to Orchard Park vet for all needs. He is house broken but has had some accidents lately as my parents are less mobile and have trouble getting him outside. Mickie is very loving.
