Meet Lestat!! He came in as a stray on 5/22/26. We think he is about 10 years old, but we are only guessing. He is shy at first and he is nervous with all the noise from the dogs barking. He is already neutered. Someone has loved this little guy in the past and he is obviously used to being a couch potato. He is very mellow and easy going. He will be wonderful companion. Story
Sassy is a 4-year-3-month-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix weighing 11 pounds. Sassy has been surrendered twice. She is very nervous and fearful with people and situations she is unsure of. A lot of work will need to be done to earn her trust. Once she trusts you you'll see a happy, cuddly girl who likes to be by your side and give kisses. Sassy needs another dog in the home who is confident and can teach her to trust. She is great with other dogs, quick to tell them if they are to much for her. Sassy loves to go for walks, loves belly rubs (once you've earned her trust), loves her toys and chasing them. She's used to being on the furniture, because she'll be stuck to you like velcro! She's happy to be carried around like a queen (if not she is under your feet). Sassy does not like children (they are to loud and fast for her). If you've read this far we hope you have the heart and patience to be the right fit for Sassy. Multiple visits to the shelter will be required before she can leave so she can establish trust with her adopter. She is housebroken and crate trained. Fearful of load noises and car rides. Good watch dog.Her adoption fee is $150, this includes her spay, heartworm test, vaccines current, deworming, heartworm/flea prevention, and microchipped. Her dog license is also required to be purchased for Sandusky County residents at time of adoption, which is an additional $20.75. Please visit the shelter to meet her, we show dogs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1pm-4:30pm, and the 2nd and 4th Saturday 1pm-3:30pm. Once you have visited the shelter, you are then eligible to submit an adoption application for review. Please note, we do not offer same-day adoptions and there is a $10 non-refundable application fee.Come and meet your new best friend today! The Humane Society of Sandusky County is open Monday -Friday 1pm - 5pm and Saturdays from 1pm - 4pm. Also, be sure to check us out on FaceBook!

Story
Charlie just turned 3 years old — a birthday she spent, once again, behind the walls of the shelter she’s called home for almost a year and a half. 🥀She’s a beautiful Rottweiler/Retriever mix with the softest eyes and the sweetest soul… but you’ll have to earn the chance to see that side of her. Charlie struggles with meeting new people — the world hasn’t always been kind to her — but if someone could just give her a few chances, visit her a couple of times, sit quietly nearby and let her heart unfold on its own… they’d find the most loyal, gentle, loving dog waiting underneath the fear. 💔Once she trusts you, she’s pure sunshine — a snuggly, kiss-giving, tail-wagging angel who will follow you anywhere. She walks beautifully on a leash, rides calmly in the car, and loves to stretch her legs running around the yard before curling up in a soft bed or a pile of blankets. She doesn’t care much for toys — she just wants love, safety, and someone to finally stay. 🐾Charlie has done well with some dogs here, but she takes her time getting comfortable — both with people and other pets. She’d do best in a quiet, low-traffic home with no young kids or cats. She’s a staff and volunteer favorite because we’ve seen the real her — the dog that greets you with kisses, melts into your lap, and looks at you like you’re her entire world. 🌙We keep telling her that her person is out there. That someone will see past the nerves and realize what a once-in-a-lifetime dog she truly is. But with every day that passes, she waits a little longer.Maybe you’re the one she’s been waiting for. 🖤More information? Story
Get off my lawn, unless you are here to feed me! Meet Finn! He is a 6-to-9-year-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix. He weighs 20 pounds. He is essentially a tiny, furry retired man living in a world full of people who talk too loud. Finn is not a "just add water" dog. He will not immediately love your cousin. He will not perform tricks for your friends. He is low-key spicy. He requires an estate manager (you) who understands boundaries. 🚫 The House Rules Stranger Danger: Strangers are exhausting. When guests arrive, put Finn in his crate. He will come out on his own terms. Quiet Only: He thrives in a calm house. No wild parties. No chaotic schedules. Dog Friends: He is good with other dogs, and requests they share his low-key vibe. Think sitting on a porch in silence. No frat parties. Feline Roommates: He lives with cats. He enjoys their company. One did beat him up once. Please do not bring this up to him. It is a sore subject. ☀️ The Good Stuff Once you make the cut, Finn is your boy. He bonds deeply. He is a sweet companion. He loves attention from his inner circle. His favorite hobby is property inspection. He loves sniffing around outside. He takes his backyard security job very seriously. If you want a dog to take to crowded breweries, keep scrolling. If you want a tiny roommate to judge the neighborhood with, Finn is your man. If Finn floats your boat, email therescueinn@gmail.com AND complete an adoption application here: https://therescueinn.com/adoption-application.html
