You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Chris is a sweet, timid little guy who is still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place—and that people can be kind, gentle, and loving. He came from a hoarding situation where that wasn’t the case, so he will need time, patience, and understanding as he continues to heal and build trust at his own pace. With a calm, loving environment, Chris has so much potential to blossom. Chris is extremely dog-friendly and gains confidence from being around other dogs. In fact, he tends to warm up to dogs before humans and leans on them for comfort and reassurance. He has learned a great deal by watching the small dogs in his foster home, so having a friendly, small dog companion who can help guide him is a must for his success. Chris is potty pad trained and does well using them. While he will go outside on a very consistent schedule, he currently prefers the potty pad. He enjoys going for walks and does well wearing a harness and leash. At night, he sleeps soundly in his own little bed in his foster parents’ room. Because Chris is still nervous around people and sensitive to loud noises and quick movements, a quiet, adult-only home would be the best fit for him. He needs a family who will respect his boundaries, allow trust to build slowly, and celebrate the small victories along the way. Once he settles in and feels safe, Chris will be a truly special and rewarding companion. Presley is a very sweet senior Chi that came to us with some leg stiffness due to a luxating patella that is frozen in place and a large growth on her toe on her hind leg. We have had it checked out and have scheduled a biopsy to determine if the mass under the cyst is malignant or benign so Presley will not be available until after the first of the year when we have that done and have received the results back. She does attached to a human which is a typical Chi and is very sweet! She was great with body handling at the vet!February 6, 2026, 5:54 pm

Zippy is another brand new one to Bonaparte's Retreat. We know that he is experiencing some extreme anxiety from his previous trauma so he will be coming soon until we can work through some of that. We do know that he bonds hard with one person (as Chihuahua's often do) but can be protective of that person. Sabrina is the happiest girl who loves a ball, a good play session, and to give you lots of snuggles and be your shadow! She does also have a stage 5/6 heart murmur that is in the B2 phase of enlargement which means we have started her on medication which should hopefully help to ward off symptoms for another 7-18 months so yay for that! She can be a normal dog but activity in extreme heat is no good but she is otherwise a happy girl! She does also have some coughing that the vet believes is attributed to a slightly collapsing trachea but no meds are needed for that right now.  Sabrina truly is a dream in a home and has been one of the easiest fosters her foster has ever cared for!February 6, 2026, 5:54 pm
