Story
Calm Cocoa is one of those shy and chill type of Chihuahua girls that barks only when she hears a new sound that isn't supposed to be there and whose biggest desire is to lay on the sofa near her person or sit on their lap for the longest of times.  This sweet girl that always has a smile, is golden not only in color but also in character and personality.  She is a 'character' as they say and she just a few things she does in her day.   She loves to go outside on the leash to do her business and then quickly come back inside and head straight to the comfort of 'the sofa. '   Calm Cocoa does not like to use a pee pad so don't count on that as a back up. It is outside or her own inside choice if you aren't attentive to her needs.  She doesn't need a crate and she is the kind of girl that embraces all other dogs and even the 3 cats in her foster home are welcomed friends.  She is a loving girl and will give you kisses all day.  At just 12 years of age and 10 lbs. this girl would be up for a short walk daily and definitely wants to be with someone as much as possible.  She rides beautifully in a car and would welcome her own Princess Throne car seat to ride in.   She would be a great Chihuahua Ambassador to show that the breed can have a warm smile, some great kisses and of course the best devotion and love that you could ever order up in life.  Just think, you could have your very own mix of Kind Cocoa every morning when you wake up!  How about that????? Just email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   Tell us where you live, city and state.    Health Status is outstanding:  She has had a senior bloodwork panel, dental, oral surgery, tumor removal and benign biopsy report, spayed, all shots and heartworm done and clear fecal.  She is top to bottom healthy as a 'horsefly'.  a   ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Story
Bruno Mars may share a name with a famous performer, but this little Chihuahua has his own kind of star quality. At 4 years old and 20 pounds, Bruno is a handsome boy who is currently carrying a few extra pounds from his previous life, but with some fun exercise and a loving home, he’s already on his way to becoming the sleek little heart-stealer he was meant to be.   Bruno Mars spent the early part of his life as a breeder dog in a home that had far too many Chihuahuas and not nearly enough one-on-one attention. While the environment wasn’t the worst situation imaginable, it certainly wasn’t the life a small, affectionate dog like him deserved. With so many dogs around, there simply wasn’t time for play, attention, or the little joys that make a dog’s life special.  Now that those days are behind him, Bruno is discovering how wonderful life can really be. One of his favorite discoveries has been the game of fetch. This boy absolutely lights up when someone throws his favorite toy. He runs after it with pure joy, proudly brings it back, and waits excitedly for the next throw. His toy is his prized possession and he loves carrying it around like a treasure. It’s hard not to smile watching him enjoy something that was likely never part of his life before.   Fetch is not only Bruno’s favorite game, it’s also helping him get healthier and slimmer while bonding with the people who play with him. Long walks, playtime, and lots of affection are exactly what this sweet boy has been waiting for. And affection is something Bruno Mars has plenty of. True to his charming name, he is quite the little lover boy. Bruno adores people and will happily shower his foster mom with kisses until she gently tells him that’s enough for the moment. He’s friendly with everyone he meets and gets along beautifully with other dogs and even cats.   His foster family says he is an incredibly affectionate, happy little guy who just wants to be someone’s devoted companion.   With a bit more exercise and a family of his own, Bruno Mars is going to blossom into a truly stunning Chihuahua who will fill his home with joy, laughter, and plenty of kisses.   If you’re looking for a playful, loving companion who will happily walk beside you and play fetch for as long as you’re willing to throw the toy, Bruno Mars might be your perfect match.   Please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested. Bruno is fostered in Nashville, TN. We also adopt to families in the northeastern region and provide transportation on a certified animal transport van.   ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Story
Mr. Bob may be small in stature, but he carries the heart and wisdom of an old soul. This 5-year-old Chihuahua began life in a crowded backyard breeding situation, one of 17 little dogs trying to make sense of a world that didn’t offer much comfort. When he was finally relinquished and welcomed into rescue, everything changed — though for Mr. Bob, change takes time.   At 22 pounds (with about five to shed), this sturdy little gentleman is working toward a healthier lifestyle with proper diet and gentle exercise. But while his body is solid, his heart is tender and still learning to trust this brand-new chapter.   Mr. Bob is shy, soft-eyed, and deeply observant. He’s the kind of dog who quietly studies his surroundings, trying to understand how he got so lucky to land in a calm, loving foster home. He’s discovering that kind hands, cozy beds, and soft voices are not temporary — they’re his new normal.   He has proven to be gentle and patient with children and small dogs, though he does appreciate having his own peaceful corner to nap undisturbed. After years of living among too many dogs in a chaotic space, personal room to relax is something he treasures. He absolutely loves to cuddle and prefers to sleep close to his human at night. Fully crate trained, he sleeps soundly without a peep.   The leash is still a mystery to him and a bit frightening. He prefers quick potty breaks and then hustling back inside where he feels safe. We suspect he never had much outdoor experience before. With patience and reassurance, he will continue building confidence at his own pace.   Mr. Bob would thrive either as an only dog or with just one calm companion. More than anything, he longs for a steady, devoted person who will be his life coach — someone with patience, understanding, and unconditional love to help him blossom.   He doesn’t need chaos. He doesn’t need adventure. He just needs someone who sees the quiet beauty in a shy little soul learning how to trust.   If you feel called to give Mr. Bob the safe, gentle future he deserves, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.       ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Story
Meet Tubby — a tender little soul learning that life can be kind.   At just 4 years old and a tiny 9 pounds, this handsome light tan Chihuahua boy has already come such a long way. Tubby’s story didn’t begin with soft beds and loving arms—it began in a backyard breeding situation in a small Tennessee town, where he and 16 other Chihuahuas had never even experienced the outside world. On Valentine’s Day, two rescues, including Critter Cavalry, stepped in to change his life forever. And what a beautiful transformation it’s been.   Over the past six weeks in foster care, Tubby has been quietly, bravely discovering what it means to live. Every day, he grows a little more confident, a little more curious, and a little more trusting. His foster mom says it’s been incredibly special to watch him bloom at his own gentle pace.   Tubby has overcome more than just fear—he’s also had extensive dental care to relieve him of painful, damaged teeth, and now he’s feeling so much better and finally able to enjoy life comfortably. He is fully vetted, neutered, and microchipped—ready for his fresh start.   This sweet boy has been working hard behind the scenes, too. He’s learned that his crate is a safe, cozy space just for him, and he’s beginning to understand harnesses, leashes, and the big, exciting world outside. While he’s still gaining confidence, his progress has been nothing short of inspiring. You can see how much he wants to be brave. At home, Tubby’s true personality begins to shine. His absolute favorite place? Right next to you on the couch. Once he feels safe, he melts into the moment—quietly affectionate, deeply loyal, and oh-so-loving. Those peaceful snuggle sessions are where Tubby’s heart really opens up.   Because he forms such strong bonds, Tubby would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time to offer reassurance and companionship. He’s still learning that the world is safe, and he’ll need a patient, kindhearted person who understands that love—and trust—take time. But make no mistake: Tubby is worth it. The person who welcomes him home won’t just be adopting a dog—they’ll be witnessing a beautiful transformation. And in return, Tubby will give a lifetime of  quiet devotion, gentle companionship, and unconditional love.    Ready to give Tubby the life he’s always deserved?Email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com to learn more or apply to adopt.   Tubby is ready to travel and can easily catch a ride on the transport van any weekend—straight into the arms of his forever family.   ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Story
Meet SONNY BOY Sonny is a five-year-old small breed mix who is full-grown at 25 lbs. His DNA tests say mostly Pomeranian and Chihuahua with a bit of Dachshund. But like many small dogs, he struggles with possessive behavior in which he “lays claim” to a particular resource, typically a specific toy or the attention of his favorite human. He's a snuggle bug who is happy to be your lap dog - but also needs to be active and kept occupied. He requires a patient, strong, and experienced small and possessive dog owner. Sonny is the loyalist of loyal dogs to his people. But he has struggled with being rehomed and his resource guarding has escalated due to all of the changing in his environments. For this reason we are committed to only placing him in a home that is well aware and experienced with managing resource aggression behaviors.   This little guy loves nothing more than snuggling up on your lap and soaking up some attention. In fact, Sonny is the perfect lap dog - if you're okay with him laying claim to your lap as his own personal resource. But don't let his small size fool you - Sonny is also full of energy, sass, and needs to be kept active. He's an intelligent dog who loves to learn new tricks, but he can also be a bit of a handful. He has a bite history that is manageable and connected to dogs toys, but requires a patient and experienced owner who is willing to put in the work to manage his resource aggression behaviors and provide him with an environment that won’t trigger these bad behaviors.   Sonny was picked up as a stray in Gulfport, Mississippi, and after making his way to Nashville, TN, his x-rays revealed that he has a shotgun pellet that healed near his pelvis. We are only rehoming Sonny to quiet homes and do not include children or frequent visitors because, in his previous home, Sonny developed a reputation for snapping at strangers. This sweet dog is not at all aggressive towards strangers or children as a rule. In fact, he's very fond of strangers and is quick to claim visitors as family. His favorite person in the world is his vet! He simply has a charming but very dominant personality and  becomes temperamental and territorial when threatened and he’s overly protective of his belongings. Experienced small dog owners will know this Chihuahua personality trait well and Critter Cavalry is requesting that adopters commit to a toy-free home for the first 3 months so that Sonny is setup for success with regard to his resource guarding tendencies.    Sonny Boy happily lives with dogs of all sizes and ages and is an excellent companion to dogs of his size in particular. He’s a good wrestler and is respectful of his companion’s meals. No cats because he barks and scares them. He loves to play and treasures the attention of his family. He is house-trained, leash-trained, and knows basic commands. He enjoy’s being vocal but is mature enough to be corrected when barking excessively. There is a lot of sweet personality and attitude packed into this adorable dog. The ideal owner for Sonny would include a quiet household. With or without a companion dog as long as the companion dog is submissive. A fenced-in yard is a plus - but not required as long as this social boy gets his regular activity. Sonny does get regular visits to the dog park but requires an attentive owner because dog barks frequently have lose balls which can easily trigger his possessive tendencies.    If you're up for the challenge, you'll be rewarded with a lifelong friend who is fiercely loyal and always ready for a good time. Middle-Tennessee only.  Please email us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.
