Story
Sometimes we never know what we will see when we start up our car and leave the safety of our homes and our beloved pets that wait for us to return.  Sometimes what we see on the road is disturbing and downright WRONG.     This pair of Chihuahuas were discovered by one of our faithful rescue fosters as she traveled a back country road that was mostly farmland and very few  houses on the road.  First she say the little white chihuahua in the road and he ran from her and wouldn’t let her catch him.  She tried for a while.  Then she went to the nearest house and talked to a man who was out in his yard about this white Chihuahua.  He told her who owned the land where the dog was seen running and so a few days later she went back determined to ride up and down the road until she could see the dog again.  Well there were TWO little chihuahuas now; white and black and tan.  She found the owners of the land and asked them about the Chis and was told they were dropped off by some unknown person and that they had been up in their barn trying to eat the cow feed. They were abandoned and soon our rescue foster trapped them and brought them home to change their life forever.  We are getting them vetted and neutered and spayed 1/26. WE NEED FOSTER HELP!   The white boy is very shy and the black and tan is a female and the “protector” of her male friend.  Help us give them a short term place to stay while we look for a permanent and forever loving home!  Can you help for a few weeks?  Please contact us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.  They can be fostered in Nashville, TN or even in the New England area.  We transport weekly and just need someone to show them kindness, love and stability.  They will be ever so grateful!   ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Story
Our boy Chachi has no special needs with his health since he is a young one year old 10 pound chihuahua.  But he is special needs in the department of giving him time, patience and unconditional love that will allow him to slowly make his way back to being a normal and less fearful dog.   A place is needed for him to go and rest, be loved and be given the time to find his way to being a more calm, confident dog.  You see he and his momma dog were found in the middle of a nowhere in a small community in rural Tennessee.  They had no food or water for some time before our foster mom saw them and picked them up to carry them home with her.  They had been on the run for a while and no one had tried to catch them.   But our determined friend and foster mom Lecia did all the work and set a humane trap and caught them both and took them to the vet and then home with her to foster.   Chachi is so very handsome and SOOOOO very scared.  Most of all he is very scared of men but tolerates them if they live in the foster home.  We are looking for Chachi to go to a home with another confident small dog.   He is not a biter but a fright and flight if he gets away.  He is almost housebroken and knows how to go outside and then come in and hang.  If you are interested please email us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com  We know there is someone special out there for this handsome, scared soul.     ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Please contact Vivienne (viviennejames@comcast.net) for more information about this pet.Little Lucky is an 11 year old 11 lbs little gentleman who had the unfortunate luck of finding himself in a rural Arkansas shelter.  Not only is he an older gentlemen this poor little guy is blind.  Just imagine how scary that must have been.  He was there for a few days before Miss Sabra was made aware of this plight.  A foster was found in Arkansas and now Lucky is saved from the shelter.  Now he is in Tennessee looking for his forever home.  This little guy is a delight.  He is good with other dogs and he LOVES people.  Lucky gets around just fine once he has figured the house out.  He likes nothing better though than to be in the chair or on the sofa with you.  Actually on you.  He loves to cuddle and is a great little companion.  Lucky is comfortable in a crate and does not mind sleeping in one but he would like to be in the same room with you.  He will also ride in the crate while you do errands as long as it is not too hot or cold.  Lucky does his business as soon as his feet hit the grass and will use a pee pad if you are not home.  To help this great little guy please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net or 615-943-7311.  Thank you for considering helping this little guy!!  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.April 23, 2024, 4:30 pm

Story
Clifford is a very lucky little Chihuahua.  Found in the middle of a small country road in front of a very disturbing trailer that was overrun with animals and a family that didn’t care about any of them.  Clifford was destined to being run over. This darling little guy weighs 9 pounds and is determined to be about 3-4 years and no older despite the grey on his black muzzle.  This boy is cautious when meeting new people but as soon as he is sure of you he is just the most cuddly and loving boy ever.  He is pretty much housebroken, crate trained and he is good with cats and dogs of all sizes.  He is good on a leash and would be such a great fulltime companion if he is given a consist and calm lifestyle and home.  His long little tail was broken at some point in his life and crooked and sort of a funny part of his persona.  It is not painful to him so don’t be concerned.  Clifford would be best in a home with older children and adults of course are fine for his personality.  If you are interested in this boy please write to us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com  We are happy to talk with you about this darling little black nugget of a Chihuahua. Story
Meet Miss Summer.  This extremely sweet little lady had a hard first 6 years as she endured all kinds of filth and neglect living in the home or a hoarder.  She had 20 other dogs to keep her company so she is great with other dogs.  The horrible conditions did not adversely affect Miss Summer too much.  While she is a little shy, she still has the bright and sweet personality her name reflects.  She has experienced so much since going to her foster home and is growing more confident every day.  Since she really has had no life experiences everything is new to her.  She is getting used to riding in the car as she has already been to the vet twice.  Her foster mom is attempting to teach her to walk on a leash.  It is a slow go but as Summer gains confidence she will improve.  This little lady is a little cuddle bug and loves to be with her foster mom.  She does sleep with her as her foster brothers and sister do.  Summer's favorite place is on the back of the couch.  She is quite the athletic one and easily jumps from the floor to the chair to the back of the couch.  She can definitely see what is going on from her perch.  Summer is slowly learning that you do 'your business' outside.  However this is a work in progress and will take a while.  On day 6 she started  'going' outside and also started doing zoomies around the yard.  Summer would be much happier with a fenced in yard to do both of these activities.  She loves her foster brothers and sister and warms up quickly to new people.  You just have to talk softly to her and take your time.  Even when her tail is between her legs it is wagging.  That shows you how sweet she really is.  If you are looking for a precious little lady to add to your family and you have the patience to help a little one in need, then please consider Miss Summer.  You will make a huge difference in her life and you won't be sorry.  Summer is spayed, current on all her shots, heartworm negative and microchipped.  She also now has pearly white teeth as she has had a dental.  To be considered for Summer's forever family please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Summer is currently in Tennessee but can be transported north upon adoption.) Story
Rodney is a very sweet but frustrated senior guy!  In fact he is looking for a senior guy to be his last best friend forever in this world.  Rodney is a 9 year old 15 pound Chi mix that has a little attitude that is born from total frustration with the humans in his past life.   He came from a very dysfunctional home where dogs were running everywhere.  He was one of the “victims” of the human insanity.  What we want for Rodney is a quiet, senior home with a lap and very little demanded of him.  He will be a great dog if you just leave him to unfold and unravel from the chaos he has experienced for far too long.  We know this guy will love you forever and sometimes he will be a little snappy because he has been bounced around.  The shelter he is in is obviously not fun and not nice. This boy is needing a good home that is steady and loving and patient with him.  There will be some time needed for him to heal his heart and learn to trust.  He deserves some love and forgiveness if he is not perfect. This boy is about 15 pounds and looking for just some small little corner to call his own.   Please email us to help Rodney at ccrtennessee@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 23, 2024, 4:30 pm

Story
Little Chloe is still pretty new to Bonaparte's Retreat. She warms up pretty quickly and before you know it she is coming up to you wanting to be held and be around 100% of the time-and it's the sweetest thing! She LOVES people but can be selective about dogs and seems to be fearful of large dogs so wouldn't be appropriate in a home with larger pups. She is ok with smaller ones and has started to try and initiate play, but can get quite jealous if they are also a dog that seeks attention. So she may need to be the only puppers in the house. She is great in a crate and sleeps in it through the night but we are still working on potty training and a new owner would have to plan to pick up where we leave off! We have also recently discovered that Chloe LOVES to play ball and is a young girl with lots of energy so a yard would be nice and walks would be good!April 22, 2024, 12:06 pm

Story
Introducing Tucker the Explorer! This wonderful boy is a loveable, cute, full of expressions dog looking to become someone's forever companion! He's very well trained - knowing how to stay in a crate, go potty outside, and even go through the doggy door! Tucker is a very chill and low energy dog who enjoys everyone. Sometimes Tucker experiences some anxiety when people leave him to go to work or run errands but that's about the extent of it. Tucker would do well in a household where there are other dogs around to bring out his playful side. Potential adopters should know that Tucker is a velcro dog and will be stuck to your side at all times during the day and night. He loves a good nap with his family! Tucker is currently heartworm positive and being treated, he will be ready for full adoption at the end of April. Don't wait, he will give you a wonderful buddy for LIFE :) Look in his eyes and ADOPT HIM!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

So me? I am a small town kind of guy, having had a ruff start to life, I am great one on one but being in big city crowd is definitely not for me!! In return, I pledge to you my love, my cute mug, my sweet temperament and somewhat cuddly nature! You just really have to give me time to get to know you- not too much to ask, right???? If not, please fill out the adoption application and you may get to be my FUREVER family member!!! Local adoption only, $200 in TX

Story
Hi I'm Sadie! I am a very loving and sweet chihuahua mix when it comes to people. I am not so sweet and loving to other little dogs if they take away my time sitting on your lap or getting your attention. Then, I will try to scare them away because they are moving in on my territory. You see, when I come into your house, you are mine!! And I don't like sharing you with anyone with 4 legs!! So if you want to devote the rest of your life to my happiness and security, I will devote the rest of my life to keeping your lap warm, cleaning up things that drop on the floor, and will alert you to things that we may both need to know about! Like someone at the door! I am waiting for you!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
Nyx came to us as a surrender with hydrocephalus. She was the runt of the litter and was having a hard time eating and surviving with her littermates. We took her in and we were able to get her to eat and our vet evaluated her - diagnosis confirmed of hydrocephalus but no treatment needed. She also has an under developed left eye that we aren't sure if she can see out of - if she can it's most likely just shadows. Nyx is different. I don't know how to put it other than that (in the spirit of full disclosure). Her "wires are crossed". I think the hydrocephalus has affected her in ways that I will explain here: She loves other dogs but doesn't know how to "play" with them. She will jump on them and bite them trying to get them to play with her. But when it's naptime or bedtime she will cuddle up and sleep on them. I think she enjoys their company but doesn't know how to effectively communicate with them. She will let you pick her up on her terms. She doesn't bite or even try to bite you but will run when you are trying to get her to pick her up (she will come to you when she wants to). She is a very sweet, lovely dog who is "special" in her own way and I know she will make someone very happy! Someone who can love something special and accept her just the way she is. If you would like to learn more about Nyx, please fill out an application and I would be happy to speak with you about her. You can find our app at www.goofyfootrescue.org Nyx is in foster in West TN

Story
Meet SONNY BOY Sonny is a five-year-old small breed mix who is full-grown at 25 lbs. His DNA tests say mostly Pomeranian and Chihuahua with a bit of Dachshund. But like many small dogs, he struggles with possessive behavior in which he “lays claim” to a particular resource, typically a specific toy or the attention of his favorite human. He's a snuggle bug who is happy to be your lap dog - but also needs to be active and kept occupied. He requires a patient, strong, and experienced small and possessive dog owner. Sonny is the loyalist of loyal dogs to his people. But he has struggled with being rehomed and his resource guarding has escalated due to all of the changing in his environments. For this reason we are committed to only placing him in a home that is well aware and experienced with managing resource aggression behaviors.   This little guy loves nothing more than snuggling up on your lap and soaking up some attention. In fact, Sonny is the perfect lap dog - if you're okay with him laying claim to your lap as his own personal resource. But don't let his small size fool you - Sonny is also full of energy, sass, and needs to be kept active. He's an intelligent dog who loves to learn new tricks, but he can also be a bit of a handful. He has a bite history that is manageable and connected to dogs toys, but requires a patient and experienced owner who is willing to put in the work to manage his resource aggression behaviors and provide him with an environment that won’t trigger these bad behaviors.   Sonny was picked up as a stray in Gulfport, Mississippi, and after making his way to Nashville, TN, his x-rays revealed that he has a shotgun pellet that healed near his pelvis. We are only rehoming Sonny to quiet homes and do not include children or frequent visitors because, in his previous home, Sonny developed a reputation for snapping at strangers. This sweet dog is not at all aggressive towards strangers or children as a rule. In fact, he's very fond of strangers and is quick to claim visitors as family. His favorite person in the world is his vet! He simply has a charming but very dominant personality and  becomes temperamental and territorial when threatened and he’s overly protective of his belongings. Experienced small dog owners will know this Chihuahua personality trait well and Critter Cavalry is requesting that adopters commit to a toy-free home for the first 3 months so that Sonny is setup for success with regard to his resource guarding tendencies.    Sonny Boy happily lives with dogs of all sizes and ages and is an excellent companion to dogs of his size in particular. He’s a good wrestler and is respectful of his companion’s meals. No cats because he barks and scares them. He loves to play and treasures the attention of his family. He is house-trained, leash-trained, and knows basic commands. He enjoy’s being vocal but is mature enough to be corrected when barking excessively. There is a lot of sweet personality and attitude packed into this adorable dog. The ideal owner for Sonny would include a quiet household. With or without a companion dog as long as the companion dog is submissive. A fenced-in yard is a plus - but not required as long as this social boy gets his regular activity. Sonny does get regular visits to the dog park but requires an attentive owner because dog barks frequently have lose balls which can easily trigger his possessive tendencies.    If you're up for the challenge, you'll be rewarded with a lifelong friend who is fiercely loyal and always ready for a good time. Middle-Tennessee only.  Please email us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Learn more about Critter Cavalry and request an adoption application at CritterCavalry.com. ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Contact ccrtennessee@gmail.com.April 23, 2024, 4:30 pm

Laci is probably one of "the sweetest and bestest" girls ever! She is lowkey and loves being a couch potato. When Laci gets a burst of energy, she likes to play with toys and interact with her foster siblings. She does require a daily medication which costs approximately $15 per month. Laci must have a fence in yard since she likes to meander about! If you would like to add Lace to your forever family, please go to goofyfootrescue.org and fill out an application.
