Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Chris is a sweet, timid little guy who is still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place—and that people can be kind, gentle, and loving. He came from a hoarding situation where that wasn’t the case, so he will need time, patience, and understanding as he continues to heal and build trust at his own pace. With a calm, loving environment, Chris has so much potential to blossom. Chris is extremely dog-friendly and gains confidence from being around other dogs. In fact, he tends to warm up to dogs before humans and leans on them for comfort and reassurance. He has learned a great deal by watching the small dogs in his foster home, so having a friendly, small dog companion who can help guide him is a must for his success. Chris is potty pad trained and does well using them. While he will go outside on a very consistent schedule, he currently prefers the potty pad. He enjoys going for walks and does well wearing a harness and leash. At night, he sleeps soundly in his own little bed in his foster parents’ room. Because Chris is still nervous around people and sensitive to loud noises and quick movements, a quiet, adult-only home would be the best fit for him. He needs a family who will respect his boundaries, allow trust to build slowly, and celebrate the small victories along the way. Once he settles in and feels safe, Chris will be a truly special and rewarding companion. Story
Mr. Bob may be small in stature, but he carries the heart and wisdom of an old soul. This 5-year-old Chihuahua began life in a crowded backyard breeding situation, one of 17 little dogs trying to make sense of a world that didn’t offer much comfort. When he was finally relinquished and welcomed into rescue, everything changed — though for Mr. Bob, change takes time.   At 22 pounds (with about five to shed), this sturdy little gentleman is working toward a healthier lifestyle with proper diet and gentle exercise. But while his body is solid, his heart is tender and still learning to trust this brand-new chapter.   Mr. Bob is shy, soft-eyed, and deeply observant. He’s the kind of dog who quietly studies his surroundings, trying to understand how he got so lucky to land in a calm, loving foster home. He’s discovering that kind hands, cozy beds, and soft voices are not temporary — they’re his new normal.   He has proven to be gentle and patient with children and small dogs, though he does appreciate having his own peaceful corner to nap undisturbed. After years of living among too many dogs in a chaotic space, personal room to relax is something he treasures. He absolutely loves to cuddle and prefers to sleep close to his human at night. Fully crate trained, he sleeps soundly without a peep.   The leash is still a mystery to him and a bit frightening. He prefers quick potty breaks and then hustling back inside where he feels safe. We suspect he never had much outdoor experience before. With patience and reassurance, he will continue building confidence at his own pace.   Mr. Bob would thrive either as an only dog or with just one calm companion. More than anything, he longs for a steady, devoted person who will be his life coach — someone with patience, understanding, and unconditional love to help him blossom.   He doesn’t need chaos. He doesn’t need adventure. He just needs someone who sees the quiet beauty in a shy little soul learning how to trust.   If you feel called to give Mr. Bob the safe, gentle future he deserves, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.       ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Story
If you’ve been waiting for a little angel to walk into your life, Hailey may be the one.   At just 6 years old and 20 pounds, this precious Chihuahua mix girl is truly one of the sweetest souls we’ve ever had in foster care. Hailey lives to be by your side. Whether it’s cuddling on the couch, riding in the car, or strolling along on a leash, she is simply happiest when she’s with her people. Hailey is a friend to everyone she meets and gets along beautifully with other dogs. She hasn’t been around cats, but with her gentle nature, we believe she could likely be a friend to them too. She walks nicely on a leash, making her a wonderful walking companion, and she absolutely loves a good car ride. She is house-trained when taken out regularly and is fully crate-trained, though she shouldn’t be left alone for long hours. This little beauty thrives when her family is home most of the time. A fenced yard would make her especially happy since she does enjoy the outdoors.   Because we’re unsure about her experience with small children, a home with kids 8 years and older would be best. Hailey would be a dream for retirees, empty nesters, or anyone looking for a loyal, loving companion to brighten every single day.  If you’re seriously considering giving Hailey the forever chapter she deserves, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.She’s ready to love you for a lifetime.      ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED. Story
Presley is a very sweet senior Chi that came to us with some leg stiffness due to a luxating patella that is frozen in place and a large growth on her toe on her hind leg. We have had it checked out and have scheduled a biopsy to determine if the mass under the cyst is malignant or benign so Presley will not be available until after the first of the year when we have that done and have received the results back. She does attached to a human which is a typical Chi and is very sweet! She was great with body handling at the vet!March 3, 2026, 3:31 pm

Story
Cookie and Tiny are a bonded *we think* set of Chihuahua's that are fairly new to BR. Cookie is the larger one at around 8lbs and fairly tall, and Tiny is smaller at around 4lbs but needs to maybe gain a pound or so. They are both recently spayed and neutered and since that time Tiny's obsession with Cookie has abated a bit so we are now not 100% sure that they have to be together-but they come from the same home and get along great so it would be ideal for them to be together! They can bark at strange men especially but did great with our male vet and seem to calm down after spending just a brief amount of time with them. Cookie especially is a kisser and loves to love on people-awwww! They are becoming better with other dogs now that they settled a bit and as the hormones go out of their system we hope that will improve even more. Tiny was a marker when we first got him but that is definitely diminishing! Cookie can be vocal when left so would not do good in an apartment setting.March 3, 2026, 3:31 pm

Story
Zippy is relatively new to Bonaparte's Retreat. We know that he is experiencing some extreme anxiety from his previous trauma so we have started him on Prozac recently and he is the second week of that and it may be a medication he would need to be on for life so that is something a potential adopter would need to know.  Zippy is 10000% Chihuahua and will attach to one person as they do, but he can be reactive with the other humans in the home that he is not bonded with so we are thinking he would do best in a home with one person either male or female. He will also take a while to warm up to someone so they would need to know that going in as well...and he can be very vocal until he feels comfy so we are not thinking he would be appropriate in an apartment/condo setting. He is ok with other dogs though and did come with a canine brother but they are not bonded so he will not be coming with Zippy. We would not recommend Zippy be in a home with children and would recommend someone be very careful with Zippy around children. He will be very vocal and a meet & greet as well and potentially reactive if we dont keep a slow and soft vibe so keep that in mind.  He has come a LOOONG way since he has been with his fosters but he does still have a ways to go...but we think having him move to a home where he can heavily bond and continue his growth may be the best route for him so he is available for adoption now. He can be VERY loving with the person he does bond with after he feels safe so his new person will have that to look forward too and will feel like they won a medal when that happens!March 3, 2026, 3:31 pm
