Calvin was found as a pup with a fractured femoral head of unknown origin. Amputation was his best chance at a normal life, and please believe that missing leg stops him from NOTHING! Calvin has no trouble navigating a couple stairs, flying across the yard, or getting onto lower furniture. As is the need for limb removal wasn’t enough for a young dog to endure, he also underwent cherry eye repair at the same time. Now, its just soulful and healthy brown eyes staring at you adoringly! While he is a doggy pal loving sweet snuggle bug, Calvin also comes with his quirks. He can be very stubborn and is set in his ways for a youngster. Calvin walks well on a leash, but if theres someone he wants to meet and you keep try to keep strolling- not happening. He’ll give a good screech and plant his feet, and you will be making that person’s acquaintance! He is also not a fan of other dogs near him when he is ready to crash. He enjoys resting/sleeping in a kennel and will get grumpy with any dogs who bug him while he is snuggled in on the furniture. (Who could blame him?!) Once he’s had his rest, he is ready to romp around with doggy pals and play with toys once again! Calvin doesn’t bark often- but will if he is getting amped with another dog. If you share a wall with neighbors this is something to keep in mind if he wouldn’t be a solo dog. Calvin loves car rides and does well going to work with foster mom. He is great at meeting new people, but is mouthy when he gets super excited. He is working hard on more polite play, but it may be best if he did not live with young children at this time. I have so much to learn, discover and explore - just a tiny sponge who is ready to absorb everything you must teach me and show me. I am counting on you to help me safely navigate the world and experience new things each day to allow me to grow into a confident young dog. That isn’t as exotic and daunting a task as it might sound. Each day I just need to be introduced to one new thing like the sound of a vacuum, a blender or a doorbell, walking up and down a step, a ride in a car, hearing a motorcycle or a truck, going somewhere to see new people, even maneuvering a fallen log on a walk. You get the idea, so many things that seem common to you are completely new to me. Speaking of growing, I may be tiny now but I do plan on getting bigger so I would love to take obedience classes to learn proper manners and social skills. I also know I have to practice something called house-training, so I know proper potty behavior. A routine and lots of yummy treats and praise will go a long way to helping me master house-training when I potty outside. Puppies and dogs need love, exercise, mental stimulation and consistency to be healthy, happy and confident. I am typically very open to all sorts of housemates; I can be a bit mischievous and may find any other critter as a potential playmate so they will need to understand that about me. I often explore the world with my mouth and while I am teething, I like to chew; my little puppy teeth are very sharp so if I am around children we should always be supervised. It is important that children learn about respecting me, too, and treat me gently because I am fragile. Raising a puppy is a big responsibility, a lot of work, and it may interrupt your sleep cycle for a bit, but a courteous and well-behaved dog is certainly worth the investment, and I promise to be loyal, love you unconditionally and be a companion forever. I just know I will bring joy and laughter into your home and cannot wait to meet you. Let the adventures begin!#1
