Story
Name: Lizzie Breed: Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) Age: Adult Size: Small Personality: Sweet, friendly, affectionate, and delightfully opinionated Lizzie is a charming little chiweenie with soulful eyes and a whole lot of personality packed into a small frame. She’s friendly, loves people, and enjoys being near her humans—especially if cuddles or attention are involved. While Lizzie did give motherhood a brief try, she has made it very clear that her true calling is being the baby, not raising them. She’s much happier focusing on herself, enjoying walks, attention, and living that carefree only-dog or spoiled-pet life. Lizzie would thrive in a home where she can be loved, doted on, and appreciated for who she is: a sweet, sassy little dog who knows exactly what she does (and does not) want out of life. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big heart, a gentle nature, and zero interest in parenting duties—Lizzie is ready to clock out and move in. Adoption Fee: $250 Apply here: https://forms.gle/emAhij7FiTcZuvHA6 Currently in AL, but can be transported to New England states for $200.00. Story
Lola is a 9 year old brindle Chihuahua Daschund mix. When we first got her we did not have any children for two years and she was treated as our only child. We now have two toddlers and a newborn and the added responsibility of a dog who needs more attention than we can give her now weighs on us daily. She is a high energy dog who would love to go on walks, She would prefer to be in a more quiet home with less chaos/anxiety inducing activity going on around her. She is very anxious when in a crowd or when new people are over and the unpredictable nature of kids seems to scare her. Ideally we will find her a loving home with no children or other pets. We have all of her vet records/receipts from over the years.

Hi Guys...I am Bear, actually it used to be Polar Bear, but truthfully, I am not a fan of the cold so I had them drop it here at the rescue when I arrived. lol. So besides the cold let me tell you a little about me. I am a settled adult guy, but I still love to play and have a blast. Warm blankets, soft beds [preferably yours] and someone to snuggle with and call my own are all on the docket for me...I hope. So I will tell ya what...if you are looking for a side-by-side companion that has all those puppy antics behind them, I am your guy. Head on over to the DRBC Adoption Center and let's hook-up! Hope to see ya real soon! Bear is an 8 year old neutered cream colored Chiweenie male who is current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative and has been placed on the DRBC long life diet. If you are seriously interested in participating in DRBC's Adoption Program, visit our webpage: www.doxierescue.com/adoption to learn more. The DRBC Website will help you can learn more about our adoption process and complete the application. NOTE: DRBC only adopts to the NJ, NY, DE, MD and Eastern PA areas to adults aged 21 yrs and older. This 'think global, act local' approach helps us provide the best in supportive medical care and behavioral guidance across the life of our placements.

Story
The volume of discarded seniors entering NJ’s shelter system is sad and alarming. Pippy is one of our newest arrival. She was curled up in a sad scared cranky ball in the back of her kennel at our local Animal Control facility surrounded by large barking dogs. She’s severely overweight at 18lbs when she should be more like 12, and she gets out of breath easily with even short walks. She was blind in one eye which was painful and uncomfortable due to severe untreated, chronic dry eye as well as glaucoma, so we made the decision with our vet that removal would be the best option to help her feel better. She’s healing nicely and warming up, she’s a chihuahua so can be snarky with strangers and doesn’t like to be bothered when she’s comfy in her bed, but getting a bit happier each day. And she only has bottom teeth remaining after her dental so isn’t particularly scary. Getting gummed to death by an obese one-eyed pirate 🏴‍☠️ Chihuahua isn’t much of a threat. She’s fine with other mellow little dogs and definitely knows her own chihuahua kind, a funny but lovable little personality if you understand chi culture and customs. She’s at least 10 years old and overall in pretty good health now that her untreated eye and dental situation have been taken care of and she’s already lost 2lbs on her diet! Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Pippy in Northern NJ. Pippy is just the latest in a long line of local seniors we have taken in suffering from chronic painful medical issues that need immediate medical attention to give them a better quality of life. Please consider a donation so we can continue to step up week after week for these little ones in need in our local shelters. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
