Story
Toby is a 7-month-old, 26-pound chiweenie pup with adorable ears. Toby's story began with heartbreak. At just 4 months old, Toby was abandoned at a high-kill shelter alongside his mom. While his mom was quickly adopted, Toby was left behind, scared and alone in a noisy shelter environment. Thankfully, a loving foster stepped in and gave him the chance he deserved. Today, Toby happily goes outside in the yard, loves playing with his foster siblings, and enjoys stretching out in the sunshine for a relaxing afternoon sunbath. He even comes to his foster mom for petting and loves to be a lapdog. He has blossomed into a loyal little companion who will quietly follow you everywhere. He is playful, incredibly sweet, and completely non-confrontational. He does not resource guard and has wonderful manners around other animals. Toby currently lives with six dogs and one cat and gets along beautifully with all of them. He absolutely thrives in the company of other pets and looks to them for reassurance and confidence. Because of this, a happy, confident, playful dog in the home is required. Toby trusts dogs more than humans, and having a canine role model helps him continue building confidence and learning that the world is a safe place. He is also a very smart puppy and a quick learner who continues to make progress every day. While he is fine around children, we feel Toby would do best in a quieter home without young kids. He spends a lot of energy observing his surroundings and making sure everything is okay, so a calm environment will help him relax and continue gaining confidence. After everything he has been through, it's understandable that Toby is cautious. But for the family willing to give him patience, kindness, and time, Toby will reward you with unwavering loyalty and a bond that is truly special. Toby is fully vaccinated, neutered and heartworm negative. He is kept on heartworm and flea preventatives. To meet this amazing pup via facetime or whatsapp or other video chat apps, please send a completed application via www.savesomesouls.com Yards MUST BE adequately and fully fenced to adopt our pups. We do not accept electric or underground fences. Toby's adoption fee includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter surgery and recovery, heartworm and flea prevention), a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, and harness. Transport fees out of Houston can range from $150 - $350 depending on destination. Our dogs are fully assessed by foster parents, vets and behaviorists, as well as videos and video chats are available to observe their manners in public. We are extremely transparent and like to share everything negative and positive with the adopters, to ensure it's a good fit and they are not returned to us, as the trips are very stressful on them. Houston is home to million strays, many who are abandoned, many born on the streets, many who escaped while living in the yard, which is common in Texas. Since our rescue does not get grants that shelters get, we use adoption fee to help the pups and kitties in our care. Your adoption fee goes towards vetting and feeding our long term and permanent fosters, and unadoptable pups, as well as towards the monthly care and preventatives etc of our pets. By adopting one pup from our rescue, you make room for another dog to be rescued our high kill shelter, thus becoming an integral part of our mission to save as many unfortunate dogs off the streets and shelters as possible. So Thank you for choosing to rescue, and not go to a breeder.

Story
Est DOB: 1/24/24 Weight: 10lbs   Colby is a charming Chihuahua / Cocker Spaniel mix (we think) with the softest curls you've ever felt and a heart that's just as sweet. Colby came into rescue with Bella after their family made the difficult decision to surrender them when they could no longer afford their care. As the father of puppies Beenie and Barbee, Colby has already done his part raising a family. Now he's ready for a forever home where he can simply be someone's beloved companion. When Colby first arrived in foster care, he was understandably nervous and unsure of his new surroundings. After a few days of patience and reassurance, his true personality began to shine. Today, he's a loving, playful little guy who enjoys being close to his people and soaking up all the attention he can get. One of Colby 's favorite things in the world is snuggling. Whether he's stretched out beside you on the couch or keeping you company while you work, he thrives on companionship and affection. During the day, you'll often find him snoozing contentedly on a dog bed in his foster mom's office. At night, he happily joins his people on the couch for quality cuddle time. He's also very food-motivated, which has helped him adjust well to his foster home's routines and training. Colby has a medium energy level and tends to follow the mood of the household. When it's time to play, he's happy to join in. When everyone is relaxing, he's equally content to settle down nearby and enjoy the quiet. Colby loves spending time outside on a warm day. He loves stretching out on the deck, scooting his face along the surface, rolling onto his back, and soaking up every bit of sunshine he can find. He's making good progress with potty training and only has occasional accidents in his foster home. Colby sleeps quietly in his kennel at night and can often be found resting comfortably in his crate when his foster family is away. Tell him, "Go to your room," offer a treat, and he'll happily trot right in. Like many dogs experiencing a big life change, Colby is still working through a few fears. Leashes can be intimidating, and car rides currently make him nervous, causing some panting and whimpering. With patience, encouragement, and continued exposure, he's already showing that he's willing to learn and trust. Colby has done well with children as young as 9 years old, though he'll appreciate a family willing to give him a little time to settle in and feel secure. Colby currently lives in a foster home with several other small dogs and gets along well with most canine friends. If you're looking for a gentle soul with adorable curls, a loving heart, and a talent for turning sunny afternoons into pure happiness, Colby may be the perfect addition to your family. ☀️   Please consider making this handsome boy a member of your family. As we are a foster based rescue, we do require a completed application to be submitted before we arrange a meet.  This can be found on our website at   https://almosthomepetrescue.org/apply-now-1     $200 adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care. All breed, age,  and size categorizations are estimates.    If transporting out of state to available locations, the total adoption cost will be $500. This amount is inclusive of adoption fee, transport fee, health certificate, and taxes. September 5, 2026, 8:56 pm

Story
Wrigley is a sweet little guy with a gentle soul and a quiet nature. While he may not be the first dog to run up and demand attention, those who take the time to earn his trust will discover a loving companion who enjoys being close to his people. This handsome boy can be a bit reserved when meeting new people and in unfamiliar situations. Wrigley prefers to take things at his own pace, but once he feels safe, his affectionate personality begins to shine through. He is looking for a patient family that understands that the best relationships are often worth waiting for. Wrigley has already completed heartworm treatment and is doing great. He remains on heartworm prevention as a precaution, and his adopter should continue routine follow-up care with their veterinarian. With that behind him, he's ready to focus on finding the forever home he deserves. At 6 years old, Wrigley has left the puppy chaos behind and is ready for a calmer life filled with soft beds, gentle companionship, and people who appreciate his sweet and thoughtful personality. If you're looking for a loyal friend who will form a deep bond once he trusts you, Wrigley may be the perfect match.
