See adorable videos in here Facebook post (you will need to copy and paste the link shown below into your browser to view them - they are too large to post here - allows pets all over, and fine with other dog in video This beautiful girl came into the shelter on 10/2 as a stray. She has no estimated age, but appears quite young and mobile in video, and weighs only 44 lbs. We have named her Miss Snow. Shelter notes from 10/06/26 state, “Environmentally distracted, no interest in handler, does not come to handler when called. When attempting to pet displays lip licking and yawning and moves head away. Did not complete any additional handling at this time. Needs rescue by 10/9/26 5pm”. Videos were provided on 10/7 and show no aggression whatsoever, and in fact, show this girl being pet all over, being playful in the yard, and also doing fine with another dog. https://photos.app.goo.gl/btJv8k838okmaXDg8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZFL5CcUr2uty2jYX8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/xg6tTbK8vCLujSe48 We already contacted the shelter asking for more time and were given until 10/11 only. Story
X-URGENT - DEVORE, CA, So Cal - SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY ANIMAL CARE - ID #A85208 'HARRIS' an adorable 1 yr old, small male chow mix under 30 lbs. Rare blue color. Kenneled with an unrelated puppy. Forever home or foster and rescue needed asap at this very full kill shelter. Please note most rescues need a foster or foster to adopt home to save. Help! This dear little, young boy was found as a stray and ended up in a high kill shelter where most dogs do not have long. He has been waiting since 8/17 and is running out of time. The shelter has named him Harris and estimates he is only 1 year old and weighs 29 lbs so he may just be still growing, but was also noted as being a bit underweight and is now on extra feedings. Harris sadly appears to have been dumped, and came in understandably quite shy and scared as is so common with chows and chow mixes. However, he had an upper respiratory infection too which has since been treated. Now feeling hopefully better, he continues to warm up to staff. The shelter provided us with Behavior and medical Notes and most recently state. 9/22/26 - Dog is fearful. With treats and gentle coaxing, dog comes forward and solicits attention. Dog was able to be leashed and walked around facility. Dog is fearful of male staff members and attempts to run away when staff slows down and coaxes dog, dog will go over and start sniffing. Male staff was able to pet and leash walk dog. Dog also climbed into the lap of a male staff member. 9/23/26 - Dog was paired with a young hyper puppy. Dog is tolerating puppy and giving appropriate corrections. If a fight occurs attempts to repair with calmer dog suggested. Dog has solicited attention from other dogs in kennels. Medical Notes: 09/23/26 Noted dog is slightly underweight w/ BCS of 4/9. Placing dog on BID feedings and weekly weight checks. However, the shelter noted that 'During his time at the shelter his behavior has improved drastically and has allowed staff to weigh him.' We are therefore now desperately looking for an adopter or foster and a rescue (please note rescue groups NEED fosters) to save this dog in time. His listing link is: https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/SBCO1/A852086 Since rescue groups likely need a foster to save, if you are interested in fostering, please contact robinmorgan@cox.net asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist the shelter with their placement, and we can try to pair you with a rescue to help. For rescue group and adoption inquiries, please contact the shelter asap at (909) 386-9820 and provide the applicable ID, and also email: SBAC.Rescue@dph.sbcounty.gov We will also be posting updates, additional pictures and videos on facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/783968124/posts/10169703638103125/?mibextid=wwXIfr Note: to view contents of links you will need to copy and paste each one separately into your browser. HEARTBREAKING!!! YOUNG CHOW FOUND SHOT W PELLETS AND ALSO HEALING FROM BROKEN FEMUR AFTER ROAMING FOR WEEKS! EMERGENCY!!! NOR CAL (SACRAMENTO, CA)- City of Sacramento Animal Care Services, Front Street Shelter RESCUE AND FOSTER (OR FOSTER TO ADOPT) NEEDED FOR INJURED 1 YR, 38 LB BLUE CHOW BOY “BEARY”- ID #A742672- Dog friendly and sweet, recently neutered WHILE MEDICAL HAS BEEN DONE, AND THIS BOY IS NOW STABLE AND ALERT, SHELTER IS ASKING HELP AND TO EXIT ASAP- WHO CAN HELP???? Rescues need a committed foster or foster to adopt and a place for him to go. HE IS DESIGNATED RESCUE ONLY AT THIS TIME which means he can NOT be adopted from the shelter directly, we would need to refer adopters to a willing rescue – pls contact Robin Morgan directly if you are interested to foster or adopt Help! The Sacramento City Shelter is asking for help. We understand this young man estimated to be only 1 year old was found by animal control on 9/20 injured, and brought to an outside vet due to left hind lameness. At the time, he was noted as being in a lot of pain and had to be initially sedate to examine, understandably. Xrays revealed a broken femur, and incidentally and sadly found that he had also been shot with pellets at some point. We later learned he had been seen roaming for weeks as neighbors tried to capture him but couldn’t which also explains why he was covered also in foxtails that have since been removed. We are unclear if he was being fed at that time or how much, and if he was eventually hit by a car or how he injured his leg or paw however. Since then, he has been splinted and is not expected to need surgery, provided it is healing properly. We are told the pellets are not bothering him, but it is heartbreaking to know someone intentionally did this to him. Shelter Behavior notes provided state, “Patient has been housed in medical building since 9/22/26 and has overall been well behaved. It did take him a couple of days to warm up, especially after his leg was splinted and the E-collar was removed. Wags his tail when in kennel. Easy to leash up and take outside for potty walks. Is house broken and only goes to the bathroom outside. Asks for petting when outside and allows for head/neck/body scratches.” However, the shelter notes also state, “Is highly food motivated and has shown signs of food aggression. When medicating and feeding will place food in his kennel, remove leash when he is outside of kennel, and he runs in to the kennel to eat. Able to close the door without issues. AR,DVM”. When we asked for clarification regarding the food aggression, the shelter said, “Staff have said that he is growling when you get near his bowl. He has taken food from hands okay but it is more based around the kennel and bowl.“ The resource guarding may be the result of having to scour for food and may improve in time as he is so young. But because of it, he was made Rescue Only despite all the positive handling notes we now has since warming up to staff. The shelter also noted, “Our medical team is hoping to not have to do surgery and are currently just doing splint changes for him. They said that he will likely just need about 5 more weeks of weekly splint changes before doing another X-Ray to ensure the fracture is healing. The pellets are from shots and were an incidental finding when they did X-rays for him, they do not seem to be affecting him currently. His behavior has been conflicting depending on the staff handling him and is currently healing from an injury. They have been able to take him out, pet him, handle him and it appears that his negative behavior centers around his kennel and food.” We are calling him Beary as he deserves a name. The shelter also provided us with several videos which show him able to be pet all over his head and body, exit his kennel easily, and be leashed with as slip lead no problem. Beary was also tested with another dog and did absolutely fine, interested for a few seconds and then not, as in typical chow fashion. The shelter can provide the full notes for both medical and behavior. He was recently neutered on 9/29 at which time his splint was redone. Now we need to find a foster or foster to adopt home we can refer to a willing rescue so Beary can be saved from the shelter and find the loving home he so deserves. Therefore, if you may be interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for his rescue), please email robinmorgan@cox.net asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, and we can work on pairing a foster to a rescue group to help. Rescues can assist any further medical if needed. Here is his listing link: https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/SCRM/A742672 Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at apayne1@cityofsacramento.org and by calling 916-709-7991, main line is (916) 808-7387 and providing his ID. Beary’s facebook post with updates, additional pictures and videos are posted here: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10169709646933125&id=783968124&mibextid=wwXIfr Note: to view contents of links you will need to copy and paste each one separately into your browser. However, she has not been eating either, it’s unclear if it’s the meds or why. Nova is listed as a 6 year young female chow mix, and weighs only 30 lbs so she is tiny. Medical Notes: 10/02/26 13:03 P was standing up with right hind limb up, reluctant to walk RAD) iliac fracture : right iliac fracture both femoral heads are in acetabulum bilaterally the entire hip seems a bit twisted but this could be due to angle Rx) gabapentin 300mg : 1 cap(high dose) PO BID for 14 days simbadol IM : 0.3ml IM BID for 5 days (ok to extend as needed) PLAN) continue with the supportive care and pain control contact rescue (the fractured ilium is not weight bearing area so prognosis for mobility is fair to guarded but proper orthopedic procedure may be beneficial for the best outcome) 10/03/26 14:33 Consider setting deadline if P doesn't eat at all until monday, or stops urinating at all continue with pain control and supportive care 10/03/26 07:52 Pt appears to not have eaten pm food, drinking well, stool and urine observed, normal The shelter also provided radiographs which can be provided upon request. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting Nova, or can foster locally through the shelter, please contact the shelter immediately by calling (951) 358-7387 and reference her applicable ID and also use her listing link to express interest (but this will not place a hold). If you are interested to foster, or foster to adopt for a willing rescue, or if you need further help with a pledge towards her rescue, please contact robinmorgan@cox.net or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap as we are trying to find fosters we can then refer to a rescue group to save her in time.
