Story
Simba is a small adult dog with a sweet and loyal personality once he feels comfortable. He loves being around his person and enjoys a calm, structured environment. Simba is crate trained and does well with routine. He can be anxious in new situations and around unfamiliar people, which may cause him to bark or become defensive. He will likely bark quite a bit during the first few days as he adjusts to a new environment. Because of this, Simba would do best in a home with an experienced dog owner who understands how to give him time and space to adjust. He would do best in a home without small children. Simba would do best in a house rather than an apartment, as he can be vocal at times. A home without carpet is preferred. Simba has so much love to give and forms a strong bond with his owner. With patience, consistency, and the right environment, he can be a very loyal and rewarding companion. We are looking for a home that can provide him with stability.

Story
Hello,Nalla is a great puppy but needs a home with a family that can love her and be available a bit more than her current home. She's been with us since she was a few weeks old and has been a pleasure. She has a great temperament with children and people in general. She's been to puppy daycare plenty of times and has had no issues at all. We've had dog walkers come by the house to take her out and she has no issues with strangers. She is potty trained but has her moments where she will go on a rug if we don't make it back home to her in time. She will not go on hard wood which is what we have in our home now outside of a rug. Like most dogs, she doesn't like thunderstorms or fireworks. She’s not a barker as she makes more noise in her sleep than awake. We do have a health plan for her and she has shots coming due in the next few weeks. We’ll try to make sure we get those taken care of soon.

Story
We acquired Justice from Ole Field Farm from an experienced breeder in Union Bridge, MD on Christmas Eve 2022. We brought her home when she was a little over 8 weeks old and she was already home trained. Since we got her during the pandemic, she missed out on key socializing time. She can be anxious around stranger and other dogs, but is fine once she warms up to them. She spent a good 4 months at home with my mother’s dog and they got along well. She enjoys play time with plushy toys and belly rubs.

Story
Meet Cassie   This pretty, flowy-coated pup was picked up as a stray roaming rural SC. She is currently being fostered in a busy household with a mom, dad, 10-year-old boy, two dogs, and two cats, and she has acclimated well. Cassie loves being part of a pack, both human and canine.  Cassie has proven to be a sweet, affectionate, and playful pup. While she can be shy when meeting new people or experiencing new environments, once she feels safe, her loving personality shines through. She adores being close to her people, follows her foster family around the house, and is happiest snuggled up nearby with a toy-pile all her own. Cassie is very dog-friendly and integrated easily with her foster pack. She has also met neighbor dogs and visiting dogs and done well with everyone. She would thrive in a home with another playful, confident dog buddy to help continue building her confidence. She loves running and playing in the yard, wrestling with dog friends, and hanging out with her pack. Her foster mom says she settles much more comfortably when another dog is nearby, even happily relaxing quietly in her crate alongside a canine companion. She is moderate energy overall; playful and active when it’s time for fun, but also very content to cuddle and relax inside. Cassie is doing well with house training, and her foster mom is slowly introducing the crate using short periods of time paired with tasty treats to help make it a positive experience. It’s still a work in progress, as Cassie is likely to bark, but she's not to the point where she can be fully trusted loose and unattended for long periods. Thankfully, her foster mom works from home, so a home with a flexible schedule or someone around more often would likely be the best fit for her. She is also improving nicely with leash walking and becoming more confident over time. Loud noises like trucks, lawn equipment, and heavy traffic can still make her nervous, so she’ll need a patient adopter who understands she’s still learning that the world is safe. Cassie has done well around the cats in her foster home, though she is cautious and respectful around them. She adores the son in her foster home, but loud children outside the home can make her nervous. She just needs a little time and reassurance. Once she trusts you, she is incredibly sweet, loyal, and affectionate. Like many young pups, Cassie loves toys and chews and may occasionally “borrow” socks, shoes, or remotes if left unattended. She’s making excellent progress with both potty training and crate training. Cassie is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with her people and dog friends. With patience, structure, and love, she is going to make an incredibly devoted companion.  One important note: Cassie can be a bit of a Houdini in a new environment and may look for gaps in fences if given the opportunity, so a secure fenced yard with no escape points is a must. Story
Meet Charlie! This gorgeous boy with the striking marbled coat came from a breeder in a small town outside Charlotte, NC. Charlie is a double merle, which happens when two merle-patterned dogs are bred together and can result in vision loss. Because of his limited sight, the breeder couldn’t sell him and listed him on a Facebook rehoming page. Thankfully, our volunteer Dina saw the post and stepped in to get Charlie safely into rescue. He was fostered in North Carolina with five other small dogs before coming north. He’s now living in Reston with an active family that includes three kids (7, 9, and 12) and a playful Labradoodle named Nola. Charlie and Nola became instant best friends, even though she’s more than twice his size. They love to wrestle, play tug, and run around together, with Charlie following Nola’s lead. Charlie would do best with a playful, confident dog his size or larger to be his buddy and role model. While he is technically blind, he may see some shapes and shadows, and it certainly doesn’t slow him down. It’s the only life he’s ever known, and he navigates the world confidently using his amazing sense of smell and hearing. His foster mom, Katie, has been amazed at how quickly he adapted to her home and neighborhood walks. Within days, he learned the layout of the house and how to climb the stairs (she usually carries him down for safety). At first, a baby gate kept him in the main living area and blocked the stairs while he got comfortable with the space. After a week, he started barking whenever someone approached the gate. Now, he knows where the stairs are and either steers clear or navigates them confidently on his own. Charlie is crate-trained and doing well with potty training, though he benefits from regular breaks about every three hours. He doesn’t have accidents in his crate, which his foster family uses when they’re away for longer periods. A home with a flexible schedule is the best fit for him. He enjoys leash walks and exploring the neighborhood with Nola and does best on a short leash for guidance and safety. Overall, he’s a happy, confident little dog who loves to play, explore, and be part of a loving family. Katie shared this update: “Charlie has been absolutely wonderful. He’s great with my kids - sweet, gentle, and never nippy. He’s young, bubbly, curious, and also very food motivated. He’s fearless and confident, doesn’t let his limited vision hold him back, and definitely doesn’t realize his size compared to larger dogs. He’s a rough-and-tumble player who loves romping around with Nola. They even play tug with the same toy, which is just too cute to watch! I love it. Charlie is a very snuggly dog. He loves to bury his nose near your cheek and sleeps well through the night, cuddling in bed with my kids. He has jumped off beds a couple of times as he’s learning to navigate our home, and it’s been so cool to watch. He’s playful but not overly energetic and loves all kinds of toys, especially ones that make noise when they hit the floor, squeaks, rattles, or crunchy plastic bottle sounds, which helps him find them quickly. He is so easy to please with treats. I’ve put all kinds of toppers on his food: diced apple, steamed lentils, carrot shreds, blueberries, diced broccoli stems…he loves them all. I think he really needs a doggy buddy in his new home. He follows Nola and uses her as a guide on walks. not the whole walk, as he definitely wants to do his own thing sometimes. but for segments of the walk.” Charlie’s ideal home would include another playful canine companion; larger dogs are fine. Like any dog, he’ll need a gradual introduction to a new home, and with his limited vision, taking things a bit slower is important. Starting with one safe room and gradually expanding his access helps him learn his surroundings. When introducing other pets, moving slowly and using jingling tags can help Charlie hear them approaching and feel more comfortable initiating interactions. He’s also best walked on a short leash for added guidance and security. Charlie is joyful, fearless, and ready for a home that will give him the love, engagement, and structure he needs to be his best self. Apply today!
