Story
Sunshine has been looking for a home for 278 DAYS!!! Sunshine was found in a storm drain in CA. This was the 3rd time he had ended up in the shelter. This time, his owners didn't want him back and he was going to be euthanized. Sunshine is the life of the party! Pony hopping up and down the yard, any chance he gets. He is a wildly intelligent dog. He is a big fan of other dogs, that are gentle with him. His energy is unlike anything we've ever felt. He's a very special boy. Someone described him as a "new soul" and that connected all the pieces, that's exactly what it feels like! He is almost completely deaf and has some vision impairment, more so affecting him at night. Sunshine has a smaller forebrain and cerebellum than most dogs, causing a slight wobble and unsteady gait. He just looks like he's had a few too many drinks! He's completely self-sufficient and can move and potty on his own. He loves to pickup stuffed animals and toss them around! His disability doesn't get in his way whatsoever! As far as we know, Sunny was born like this. He LOVES napping and being glued on to your lap on the couch. He's the sweetest and quietest boy we've only heard him bark less than 5 times and its the cutest noise you will ever hear. Pics don't do him justice, he's very small and loves to be carried around. Story
***Courtesy Post*** Meet Bailey, the energetic, affectionate rescue mutt—she is likely part Australian Shepherd and part cattle dog. She is fixed, fully vaccinated, weighs about 45 lbs., and is estimated to be between 2 and 4 years old.   Bailey is very generous with her kisses and loves getting attention from her humans. She gets along very well with women and children but requires more time to feel comfortable around new men in her life. When she isn’t getting showered with love, Bailey spends her free time chewing on her favorite toys and treats. Her other hobbies include chasing her blue squeaky ball around the yard, rolling in the grass, and digging just enough to bury her toys and treats for safe keeping.   Bailey is house broken, responds to her name, and knows how to sit. She responds well to training exercises and would thrive with owners who can dedicate time for additional training. She loves getting dressed up for walks but is still working on her leash skills and would do best at a house with a closed yard where she can run around safely. Bailey requires more practice socializing with other animals and is best suited as an only pet. She gets along with other dogs when calm, but becomes nervous and reactive when they get too excited and try to play.    Bailey has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee of $200 helps offset the cost of medical expenses. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think Bailey could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*:    https://helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application .   *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up. July 18, 2025, 9:49 pm

Story
Meet Boo the lover girl, a darling 2-year-old cattle dog mix.  Background: Sweet Boo was found as a stray after being struck by a car. Despite her injuries, her gentle nature shone through, and shelter staff knew she was worth every effort. They invested in surgery to start her healing journey, and Boo underwent an FHO procedure. Since then, she has been recovering beautifully in a loving foster home.  Personality: Boo is a sweetheart through and through—affectionate, gentle, and eager to please. Weighing in at 40 lbs doesn’t stop her from being a lap dog. She adores people of all ages and gets along with dogs of every size.  Health: Boo is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. She underwent her FHO surgery on 10/30/25 and is progressing right on schedule. While dogs who receive an FHO may develop a quirky gait, Boo is expected to live a full, happy life filled with long walks, playful romps, and plenty of adventures. To support her long-term mobility, it’s important that Boo stays lean. Keeping her weight down will help protect her joints and ensure she continues to thrive.  Training: Boo is housebroken, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. Ideal Home: This laid-back gal is happiest simply being near her people, especially if snuggles are involved. Boo would thrive in almost any loving home where companionship and affection are part of daily life. She would likely do well with children, making her a wonderful family dog.  Adoption Requirements: Boo’s adoption fee is $350. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*: helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up.  December 23, 2025, 2:20 pm

Story
Introducing Bruce, this 1 year old Kelpie mix is a lively and friendly boy who’s full of energy! Bruce weighs 40 pounds. He’s up to date on vaccinations, rabies, and is neutered. This playful pup loves to engage in games of fetch and enjoys splashing around in water. Bruce is very friendly towards adults and children, but due to his high energy level, he would do best in a home with no other dogs and children over 10 years old. Bruce is still learning his leash manners but is picking it up very quickly. Bruce is house-trained and loves spending time outdoors. He’s looking for a loving family to share his adventures with! Bruce is not appropriate for an apartment or condo. He does need a securely fenced backyard. Bruce's adoption fee of $350 helps offset the cost of medical expenses. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think Bruce could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*:    https://helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application .    *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match.
