Story
***Courtesy Post*** Meet Bailey, the energetic, affectionate rescue mutt—she is likely part Australian Shepherd and part cattle dog. She is fixed, fully vaccinated, weighs about 45 lbs., and is estimated to be between 2 and 4 years old.   Bailey is very generous with her kisses and loves getting attention from her humans. She gets along very well with women and children but requires more time to feel comfortable around new men in her life. When she isn’t getting showered with love, Bailey spends her free time chewing on her favorite toys and treats. Her other hobbies include chasing her blue squeaky ball around the yard, rolling in the grass, and digging just enough to bury her toys and treats for safe keeping.   Bailey is house broken, responds to her name, and knows how to sit. She responds well to training exercises and would thrive with owners who can dedicate time for additional training. She loves getting dressed up for walks but is still working on her leash skills and would do best at a house with a closed yard where she can run around safely. Bailey requires more practice socializing with other animals and is best suited as an only pet. She gets along with other dogs when calm, but becomes nervous and reactive when they get too excited and try to play.    Bailey has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee of $200 helps offset the cost of medical expenses. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think Bailey could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*:    https://helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application .   *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up. July 18, 2025, 9:49 pm

Story
Meet Boo the dream dog! She is a darling 2-year-old cattle dog mix.  Background: Sweet Boo was found as a stray after being struck by a car. Despite her injuries, her gentle nature shone through, and shelter staff knew she was worth every effort. They invested in surgery to start her healing journey, and Boo underwent an FHO procedure. She  recovered beautifully in her foster home.  Personality: Boo is a gentle soul and a sweetheart through and through—affectionate and eager to please. Weighing in at 40 lbs doesn’t stop her from being a lap dog. She adores people of all ages and plays beautifully with dogs of every size. Boo enjoys her daily walk and occasional hike, but is otherwise a cuddly couch potato. Health: Boo is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. She underwent her FHO surgery on 10/30/25 and progressed right on schedule. Boo will live a full, happy life filled with long walks, playful romps, and plenty of adventures.  Training: Boo is housebroken, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. Ideal Home: This laid-back gal is happiest simply being near her people, especially if snuggles are involved. Boo would thrive in almost any loving home where companionship and affection are part of daily life. She would likely do well with children, making her a wonderful family dog.  Adoption Requirements: Boo’s adoption fee is $350. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*: helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Story
Jojo is a female purebred Blue Merle Queensland Heeler rescued from an abusive home at 9 months old. She is now 5 years old (DOB: Aug 21, 2021). She loves creature comforts and is a true pillow queen. Jojo is very affectionate with her people and lives for butt scratches. She enjoys squeaky balls, playing fetch, and interactive play. She loves water but won’t swim—she prefers getting her feet wet, blowing bubbles, and being splashed when the family swims. Jojo is food-motivated and currently on a vet-approved diet; bloodwork confirms she is otherwise perfectly healthy. Jojo will do best in a calm home with no young children, babies, or other animals. She is fear-based reactive with unfamiliar people and dogs in her home and may growl or posture when scared, though she has never bitten. In neutral environments like the dog park, she does well with other dogs. Jojo wants to be alpha but is a sensitive girl at heart who needs patient, experienced owners and a predictable routine.

Story
Meet Lukas — our medium mystery mix with a résumé that strongly suggests Border Collie or Hound, and a personality that confirms he has very strong opinions. Lukas is very intelligent and in the right home, with the right training, will thrive and be an amazing hiking, running, adventure buddy. We can even see him doing well in agility classes. He can be stubborn and has perfected the art of pretending he didn’t hear you. He’s not ignoring you… he’s just deeply committed to his own thoughts at the moment. This handsome guy needs a strong owner who wont let him get away with anything. He’s kennel trained, enjoys the company of other dogs, and loves to play — though he sometimes likes to play Mr. Tough Guy, so he’d do best with a more submissive canine buddy who won’t take his theatrics personally. Lukas can be a bit resource-guardy with high-value treats (because obviously the good snacks are serious business), but we’re actively working on that and he’s making progress. At the end of the day, Lukas is a determined, fun-loving goofball who is ready to trade rescue life for a family of his own — preferably one with patience, a sense of humor, and maybe some hiking shoes. Think Lukas could be the next member of your family? Apply at azdawgz.org
