Story
Riley, born in January or February of 2015 is a tricolor, smooth coat, collie/border collie mix with some brindle markings on his legs. He has experienced 2 failed adoptions. He was adopted from us when he was about 6 months old and was returned to us 3 years later when the male member of the adoptive family, who had Alzheimer’s, became abusive toward him. In time he began developing his self-confidence again and began to lose his fear of men. Even though he was still somewhat leery of men he didn’t know, he would actually seek attention from men with whom he was familiar. He got along well with the dogs in his foster home but he behaved aggressively toward any new foster dog that periodically come in. He is not good with cats as he showed aggression toward the clinic cat at our vet’s office. Riley was adopted a second time, but after a year of trying different techniques to manage Riley’s difficult behaviors his second adopter felt that she could no longer handle him and once again Riley was returned to us. He left us weighing 55 pounds and returned, markedly overweight, at 78 pounds. He is now back to a healthy weight. Riley has had extensive training. He is quite smart and learns quickly. He rides well in a car and walks well on a leash unless he meets a dog while out on the walk, in which case he will pull and act aggressively. Riley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. Riley is located in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $415 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Riley, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in

This sweet little guy is the smallest of his little family of four siblings. He only weighs 29 pounds and shouldn’t get much bigger considering he is 7 months old. Happy, healthy, oh-so-friendly, little Tanner is listed as a mixed breed. We can’t be certain of his breed mix but according to our breed app, maybe a little Shepherd with a touch of Collie. Tanner absolutely adores people of all ages, as well as other animals. His foster mom says he is great with all the guests coming by for summer swimming and cookouts.  His leash skills are fantastic, and he is friendly with the resident cats. His energy level is moderate, quite pleasant for a dog of his young age. If a medium size nice little dog is what you have in mind, please consider Tanner. Story
Max loves to play and run and, despite his age (9 years old) still has the stamina of a pup. He loves to swim and fetch in the ocean or lakes. He also loves to find a secluded spot in the house and sleep for hours. He is a watch dog, so he likes to bark. Loud noises and new places make him anxious (so he needs lots of extra TLC on the 4th of July). He gets along well with cats and very small dogs--he does not get along well with bigger dogs though. He is not a great walker since he pulls so a large backyard is ideal for him to run in. He is house trained and is VERY smart--you can still teach this old dog some new tricks. I've had him since he was a puppy and want to find a good home for him with someone who will show him all the love and attention he deserves. He has been a loyal companion but it's time for him to have a new family.

adoption donation : $499 weight 32 lbs Age 1 year Ginger is a beautiful, super friendly girl who loves everyone she meets, her tail never stops wagging! This loving girl was found in Puerto Rico sitting under a coconut tree on a beach known to be a place where people dump dogs. A kindly couple saw her there and assumed she was waiting for her owners but three days later she was still in the same spot, hungry, and trembling. The couple took her in and discovered she was the sweetest dog ever! They had her spayed and vaccinated and on February 6 this lucky girl arrived to her new foster home in the northeast, ready for a loving family of her own. Ginger doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body, she is all kisses, wiggles and wags! She loves other dogs and is gentle with children. Ginger is medium energy and loves to run around outside but when she’s home she likes to curl up with her toys or a bone or try to snuggle on her foster parents laps! Ginger is completely housebroken and fully grown at 32 pounds. She will make some lucky family a wonderful new addition. Wags of Monroe county is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
