When Natz first arrived he was very unsure of us and his surroundings. It took him a couple of days to realize that we could be trusted and then it was like a snuggle switch was flipped.  Natz  is shy at first, but give him a few minutes and he is trusting to have you pet him. He is learning puppy manners like “sit” very quickly. H e  loves going on walks and is learning to curb his enthusiasm while on a leash .  He does  great  in his crate but spends most of his time roaming free in the house or yard.  He loves pets and snuggles. Despite h is  more reserved approach, N atz’  loyalty is undeniable. Once he forms a bond with h is  family, he becomes incredibly affectionate. H is  cautiousness gives h im  a sweet, thoughtful quality—he’s a dog who values security and routine, and once he knows he’s in a safe, loving environment, h is  personality shines through in little bursts of happiness. H e has a lot of puppy energy but when he is done playing for the day he is ready for cozy snuggling.  From Natz: I don’t rush into things. I like to take my time, figuring out if something feels right. It’s not that I’m scared; I just like to be sure. My humans? They’re the best. I know their voices, their scents, and I trust them with everything. I love to be close to them and look around to make sure they are close to me. When I curl up next to them, everything feels safe. The world can be big, and I’m still figuring it all out, but as long as they’re near, I feel like I can handle whatever comes my way.    August 15, 2025, 8:38 pm

Darling is a smaller cattle dog/Shepherd mix born in January 2021. She came in as a stray with another dog. Darling gets along ok with dogs smaller than her, but not so well with bigger dogs. Darling is very smart and aware of everything going on around her. She loves people and loves attention. Darling was adopted earlier this year, but her new mom had to move to assisted living and Darling couldn't go along. She walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. Darling is eager to find a new family and start a new life - would you like to be her new best friend? She hopes she can find a new Home for the Holidays! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only.
