Story
Name:  Bella Rae Age:  8 years Gender: Female Breed:  Dachshund / Terrier Mix Weight: 32lbs Dog friendly:  Yes Cat friendly:  Yes Child friendly:  Yes, calm children ages 8+ House trained:  Yes Crate trained:  No, does not use crate, not needed Energy level:  Low Temperament:  Timid, Cautious, Sweet Requirement: Not apartment appropriate Adoption Fee: $275+tax To adopt, go to: www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family: Bella is an incredibly sweet and gentle 8‑year‑old Dachshund mix who thrives in a calm, steady environment with someone who can give her the companionship she’s used to. She bonds deeply with her person and prefers to spend her days nearby—often lounging on the couch or resting in her bed within sight. Bella adjusts slowly in new places and may need a day or two to feel safe, but once she does, her affectionate, easygoing personality shines. She enjoys other dogs, does wonderfully with cats, and has always been gentle around children, though a quieter home suits her best. Bella loves car rides, walks beautifully on a leash, and would make a wonderful office companion or stay‑at‑home sidekick. She is currently overweight and will benefit from consistent walks, a healthier routine, and someone who can help her transition away from table food. Bella does fine when left alone for short periods, but she is happiest when her person is close and her world feels predictable and secure. From Bella Rae: Hi, I’m Bella Rae. I’m a soft‑hearted girl who loves being near my human and feeling like part of your day. I may hide under a bed or table at first, but once I know I’m safe, I’ll follow you around like your little shadow. I’m not much of a lap dog, but I love being close curled up on the couch or snoozing in my favorite spot while you work or relax. I adore car rides, enjoy gentle play with other dogs, and I’m very proud of how nicely I walk on a leash. I’ve lived with cats and think they make great friends. Loud noises, big changes, and thunderstorms can be scary for me, so I’m hoping for a peaceful home with someone patient and loving. If you’re looking for a loyal, tender‑hearted companion who just wants to be near you and share a calm, cozy life, I would love to be your girl.June 20, 2026, 8:26 pm

It’s-a me, Mario! I'm a sweet, playful boy looking for my forever kingdom! My favorite activities include zooming around like I'm racing, collecting toys instead of coins, and making new friends. My personality is a mix of affectionate and playful with a little splash of silly! I'm always ready for an adventure, but after a busy day of racing around, I love to cuddle up and recharge my puppy power. My superpower? Cuddling. It’s my favorite and I pride myself in being a great cuddle partner. I know that I will be a great family member and bring lots of love and happiness to my forever home. Whether we're exploring new places or having a lazy day on the couch, I'll be your loyal sidekick every step of the way. I'm ready to press start on my future with my perfect family, could that be you? --------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Luigi here! So nice to meet you! I’m usually the sidekick, but I'm ready to be the star of your heart. I'm a sweet, silly boy who loves making friends, chasing toys, and trying to get any of my siblings to play with me. Whether I'm zooming around like I'm in a Mario Kart race or investigating every part of my environment, I'm always up for some fun. Don't let my playful side fool you, I have a soft side, too. After I’m all tired out from playing, I'm happiest when I can curl up for cuddles and a well-earned nap. I'm the perfect combination of a silly and snuggly best friend. I'm looking for a forever family to help me level up to my best life. In return, I promise endless love, puppy kisses, and a forever companion. Do you think we’re the perfect match?--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Story
Zeus came to BENCHS through no fault of his own. His previous owner was experiencing housing difficulties and made the difficult decision to surrender him so he could find a stable home. Zeus enjoys just about any kind of treat and isn't particularly picky about flavors. He is housetrained and does a great job letting his people know when he needs to go outside. He understands words like "outside" and "potty" and is reported to be very reliable with his bathroom habits. Zeus sleeps comfortably in a kennel at night, though his previous owner felt he would likely do just fine sharing a bed or relaxing elsewhere in the home. He rides well in the car and enjoys being included in adventures. Like many dogs, Zeus can be a little nervous during thunderstorms or fireworks. He has also been known to reverse sneeze after drinking water, which was reported to be normal for him. At the shelter, Zeus struggled a bit with the transition and stress of a new environment. Because of that, he may alarm bark when meeting new people for the first time. He has very much earned his honorary Chihuahua card and has the classic Chihuahua temperament: devoted to his people, suspicious of strangers until they prove themselves worthy, and never afraid to share his opinions. Once Zeus realizes he is safe and gets to know someone, he forms bonds quickly and deeply. The Zeus who knows you is affectionate, silly, vocal, and full of personality. He enjoys being close to his people and loves attention from those he trusts. He would do best in a quieter home without a lot of commotion, where he can settle in at his own pace and build confidence. While he doesn't seem particularly picky about toys, we have learned a few favorites during his stay at the shelter. Zeus loves sprawling out on big, comfy dog beds and has a soft spot for plush stuffed animals. Few things make him happier than a cozy place to nap and a stuffed toy nearby. He walks fairly well on a leash. He may pull a little at times but overall is an enjoyable walking companion. He has primarily been walked using a collar rather than a harness. He enjoys affection, especially scratches behind his ears and pets down the middle of his back. While he can be a bit sensitive about having his ears handled, his previous owner noted that this improved as he became more comfortable and trusting with people. He is comfortable being picked up by people he knows well. Around the house, Zeus is polite and respectful. He may hop up on the furniture to be near you, but typically waits for an invitation first. Zeus has previously lived successfully with another small female dog. His previous owner reported that he got along well with familiar dogs. For the right person, Zeus is the kind of dog who becomes deeply devoted. He may not be the dog who loves everyone immediately, but once you're in his circle, you'll have a loyal little shadow, a warm lap companion, and a tiny best friend who will happily keep you informed about everything happening in the neighborhood.
