She bonds deeply with her person and prefers to spend her days nearby—often lounging on the couch or resting in her bed within sight. Bella adjusts slowly in new places and may need a day or two to feel safe, but once she does, her affectionate, easygoing personality shines. She enjoys other dogs, does wonderfully with cats, and has always been gentle around children, though a quieter home suits her best. Bella loves car rides, walks beautifully on a leash, and would make a wonderful office companion or stay‑at‑home sidekick. She is currently overweight and will benefit from consistent walks, a healthier routine, and someone who can help her transition away from table food. Bella does fine when left alone for short periods, but she is happiest when her person is close and her world feels predictable and secure. From Bella Rae: Hi, I’m Bella Rae. I’m a soft‑hearted girl who loves being near my human and feeling like part of your day. I may hide under a bed or table at first, but once I know I’m safe, I’ll follow you around like your little shadow. I’m not much of a lap dog, but I love being close curled up on the couch or snoozing in my favorite spot while you work or relax. I adore car rides, enjoy gentle play with other dogs, and I’m very proud of how nicely I walk on a leash. I’ve lived with cats and think they make great friends. Loud noises, big changes, and thunderstorms can be scary for me, so I’m hoping for a peaceful home with someone patient and loving. If you’re looking for a loyal, tender‑hearted companion who just wants to be near you and share a calm, cozy life, I would love to be your girl.June 8, 2026, 8:48 pm

Story
Cora is a 3½ year old, 10 pound Chihuahua and Dachshund mix who is ready to find her forever home. She has a typical Chihuahua personality, full of spunk, alertness, and devotion to her people. This lively little girl loves to stay active, whether she is bouncing around the house, chasing tennis balls, or happily greeting new people. She may take a minute or two to get used to someone new, and then quickly warms up, often showing her excitement with lots of happy licks. She seems to feel more comfortable around women and may take a little extra time to warm up to some men. Cora is easygoing when it comes to food and enjoys just about any treat. In a home setting she has not been picky, but in the shelter she can be a bit more selective and tends to eat better when hand fed. Adding a little water to her food can also help encourage her to eat. She has previously lived with another small dog and has shared food and water bowls without issue. She does not show food guarding behavior, though she may give a mild growl if another dog tries to take a high value item like a bone. In the home, Cora has good manners and communicates clearly when she needs to go outside, she understands cues like “outside” and “potty.” She walks nicely on a leash using a collar and is comfortable being picked up. At night, she sleeps in a kennel and settles in well. Cora does have a few sensitivities. She can be nervous in the car and is not a fan of loud noises like thunderstorms or fireworks. She has previously been given melatonin to help her relax during storms. With patience and reassurance, she manages these situations well. At the shelter, she has been quite vocal, especially when new people enter the room. This may be due to the busy environment, and we are not sure how vocal she will be once settled into a home, but she will likely do best in a quieter setting. She also has a soft, cozy side, Cora loves to nap, especially if she can curl up in a basket of clothes. Due to her small size and limited history, she would likely do best in a home with older children who can be gentle and respectful. With her mix of playful energy and cuddly charm, Cora would make a wonderful companion for the right home.
