Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Doogie, or Dougie if you prefer. Doogie as in Doogie Houser, maybe? Doogie is one of seven Dachshunds that Tired Dog Rescue brought in together. Doogie is a handsome long-haired low to the ground gentleman happiest in a home with humans that will care for him the rest of his life. Just look at his pictures. His personality shows. How could he not grab you?  Doogie is twelve years young, weighing in at seventeen pounds, he does have age related arthritis, which required a permanent regimen of Carprofen that provides him comfort. Besides that, he is in great condition.  He does not need to be an only dog in the home, but he would do well with you being his best friend in his world, just the same. Give him a warm, loving place to call home and he will show his gratitude. He can live with other likeminded dogs, or even with cats. Like cats, he just ignores them.  As for young humans, he is OK with them as well, so long as the kiddos are savvy enough to realize that Doogie is not a puppy. As for adult humans, Doogie is friendly with all, men and women equally.  Doogie is crate trained, in fact, he loves to hang out in his kennel, door open, and play with a toy or a chewie. So, a proper size kennel, although not a requirement, is a recommendation. A place in the house, all his own, to retreat to. He is so laid back that way.  Due to his history, he is not housetrained, so regular walks, or visits to a fenced yard would be great. When inside for any length of time on his own, he doesn't reject a belly band.  Doogie has not shown food aggressiveness, even with other dogs nearby. Being a mature adult, he has that patience.  Doogie was never taught standard commands but has the intelligence to still learn. Afterall, you can teach and old dog new tricks. Or he may train you. Either way, Doogie wants you to take him home to your loving secure home to live out the rest of his years with you. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 8, 2026, 3:18 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Merle!  Merle was among several Dachshunds that were transferred to TDR. Merle, like the rest was very well cared for and is a pure-bred long-haired Dachshund.   At the senior age of 12 years old, Merle is very laid back and wise. He is comfortable with dogs of all ages and sizes. He is also not bothered by cats.  Being the mellow guy he is, he is also not phased at all by young humans and loves men and women equally.  Although not completely deaf, Merle is hard of hearing. That does not keep him from enjoying going outside with the other dog friends.  He is sweet and laid back.  Merle does not have to be an only dog and does fine with others as long as he’s in a home that will give him plenty of attention.  At present, with other dogs in the home, he has shown that he is not food aggressive. Coming from a breeding environment, Merle is not house broken, but he is wise and you can teach an old dog new tricks. Given time, he will become house broken. In the meantime, he is comfortable wearing belly bands.  Merle had not been trained in commands. Again, he seems to be trainable. The bottom line is that Merle is a handsome specimen of a long hair Dachshund and will make someone a very close friend.   If you think this silver old lad is a good match for you, please apply today at www.tireddogrescue.org  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 9, 2026, 10:48 pm

She is a timid girl at first, but once she warms up to you, she is a sweet little girl who loves belly and back rubs. She does well on a regular potty schedule or uses puppy pads if you must be gone for short periods. Princess would love it if you were newly retired or if you could work from home. We think she would be fine as an only dog because she loves attention, but also plays with the two-year-old foster in the home. If you think you want a dachshund that will follow you all over, then she just might be the pup for you! Our must-haves for little Princess include: - Someone who is home more often than not or newly retired - A fenced yard since she likes being outside as long as it’s not too cold, and if it is, then she expects you to have a sweater or coat on her - She can be an only dog or with another dog, a small adult dog is best, no big dogs. Don’t miss out on this sweetie! You just have to have patience at first until she gets to know you. At first, she is very timid, but if you give her space, she'll come around and want to be loved on. She needs walks. Princess is overweight, and that makes her look really fat, but it's only a pound. We'll send the right food to help her lose that weight. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
