Story
Meet Rusty! He is a 13-year-old chocolate bicolor Dachshund who's aged to perfection! 🐾 At 17 pounds, this gentle boy is already neutered and ready for a quiet home where he can settle in as your devoted companion. Rusty is affectionate and cuddly, though his vision is impaired due to cataracts, so he'll do best in a calm, familiar environment. He's a one-of-a-kind senior who has so much love left to give — come meet this sweet boy and discover what a rewarding bond a senior can bring. 💕 His adoption fee is just $80.

Story
Garcia is my name! Wiggles is my game. I should be called Mr. Wiggles because when I see my foster mom, my butt does this weird movement from side to side really fast. I'm a happy little guy. I need time to get used to your routine and rules, so please be patient with me. I'm working on my potty training, but my foster mom's backyard is really big and I'm just a little boy, I get scared. I'm learning what a doggy door is, and I can understand how that might be convenient. My mom says I snuggle great at night. I usually sleep all night, too. I kennel well, too. I go into my kennel on my own. I am a true Velcro pup and will cry if I get left on the couch by myself!!

Story
Lopez is trying very hard to learn how to trust the humans in his life. He no longer runs away if we look at him. Instead, he runs toward us, wiggling his entire body and smiling from ear to ear. Instead of hiding when we offer him treats, he now takes them gently from our hands. Now, when we talk to him, he doesn't tuck his tail and cower, he runs to us with all of the wiggles and smiles. Touch is still scary, but he's learning to accept it. New things are still scary, but he gets braver every day. He gets along with other dogs, and is a bit perplexed by cats. His ideal family would be patient and committed to continuing the work building his trust and his confidence. The rewards will be great with this one.

Story
Approx. DOB:  1/15/24                Approx Weight: 12.52 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness!!  Meet Mowie!   Mowie is an adorable 2½-year-old Chihuahua mix (possibly with a little Dachshund) weighing just 12½ pounds. He may be small, but he's full of personality and is looking for a family that will appreciate both his playful side and his love of cuddling.   Mowie forms strong bonds with his people and loves to be close—so close, in fact, that he'll happily follow you from room to room. Because he likes to stay right by your feet, his new family will need to be mindful of where he is while walking around the house. This is part of his affectionate personality, but it could be a tripping hazard for anyone who has difficulty with balance or mobility.  Mowie enjoys going for walks and has great leash manners. He also loves exploring the yard, chasing squirrels and rabbits, and playing with his foster dog siblings. Because of his curious nature, he will need a securely fenced yard where he can safely run and explore. When playtime is over, you'll often find him burrowed under a cozy blanket for a nap! Another favorite pastime is to be curled up in your lap, and when he gently leans his head against you, it's impossible not to fall in love.  Mowie is crate trained and is doing very well with his house training. He currently sleeps in an indoor dog playpen at night but would happily trade that for a spot snuggled up in bed with his forever family. He wears a belly band indoors as he continues learning to let his people know when he needs to go outside, and he keeps it mostly dry. He knows 'stay,' is working on 'sit,' and comes when called by his name.  Like many small dogs, Mowie can be a little sensitive and may become startled if approached unexpectedly. Because of this, he would do best with older, respectful children who understand how to give him time to adjust and respect his space. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he is an incredibly loving and devoted companion.   Mowie also enjoys chew toys and Nylabones and can be a bit of a picky eater, sometimes choosing not to finish all of his meals.  If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will accompany you on walks, make you smile with his blanket-burrowing antics, and happily curl up in your lap at the end of the day, Mowie may be the perfect addition to your family!  I have been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support! Approx. DOB: 6/1/19                  Approx Weight: 20 Lbs Adoption Fee: $225 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Buddy Guy is an adorable Chihuahua Dachshund mix with a big personality... and when he first came to Furry Kids, he also had a very big waistline! Buddy joined our rescue after another rescue reached out because they were full. When he arrived, it was clear this little guy had been enjoying far too many snacks and not nearly enough exercise. His amazing foster family has been helping him trade extra pounds for extra zoomies, and he's making great progress! He loves going for walks and absolutely loves belly rubs.  Buddy is discovering that walks are fun, healthy treats can still be delicious, and life is even better when you can actually see your toes again! He's proving that it's never too late to start a healthier lifestyle. Now Buddy Guy is looking for a forever family that will continue cheering him on as he reaches his goal weight. He deserves a home where he'll get plenty of love, regular exercise, and just the right amount of treats (he'll probably try to convince you otherwise!). If you're looking for a sweet little companion who's already accomplished so much and is ready for his next adventure, Buddy Guy may be your perfect match. Help Buddy Guy write the next chapter of his story—one filled with love, belly rubs, and healthy adventures!  I have been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.
