Story
Meet Corkey! He is THE CUTEST boy around town! He looks just like a yellow lab in a dachshund body. He is a hoot! This little guy was found by a GS and never reclaimed. We can't understand why... he has excellent manners! He is housetrained and can be trusted inside without a crate, however he does love his crate. Corkey is about 2 years old. He is housetrained and crate trained. He loves people and doesn't mind other dogs. He would be great as an only dog. We are unsure about cats and kids. Corkey is up to date on all vaccines, heartworm negative and on prevention. He is to be neutered next week and also chipped. If interested in giving this low rider his forever home, please complete the adoption application, below: https://acfrescue.weebly.com/forms.html Adoption fee: $225, which covers all vaccines, neuter and chip.

Story
Meet Calvin, a 3 year-old standard chocolate longhair piebald that stood in line twice to get ALL the looks! And while Calvin got ALL the good looks, unfortunately he's got plenty of needs too! Before you fall head-over-heels in love with his hazel eyes and curly brown locks of fur…please read on! Calvin is what we call “HIGH MAINTENANCE” in a dog — he has severe allergies that we simply have not been able to completely curb — and his adopter will need to be prepared to continue the battle to keep Calvin’s allergies under control.  The great news is that thru multiple tests and trial and error we can provide the very long and hopefully complete list of all items that are a no-go for Calvin's wellbeing and his people's peace of mind.Calvin’s minimum monthly budget : Apoquel $60-$80 for 2 month supply, Allermyl Shampoo for his weekly medicated baths $31.21 for 4-month supply, Benadryl for when his allergies get intense $10, Calvin’s weekly food budget for his raw diet and goat milk $50…and don't forget his heartworm and flea and tick meds. BUT, the amount of love Calvin gives you back in return? PRICELESS! Calvin was surrendered by an owner that loved him deeply but unfortunately her life took an unexpected shift when she no longer had someone to look after Calvin when she traveled for work as a flight attendant. We can tell you that we rarely see the level of premium care that Calvin had in his prior home — he has been very loved. What Calvin costs his people in the pocketbook, he more than makes up for in the love department. This boy is the definition of a lover boy and you cannot help but just adore his cute curly standard dachshund coat and positive attitude. Calvin does sometimes require muzzling and wearing a cone at the times when his allergies are at peak (like spring) and sometimes to avoid eating things along the way when he goes on walks. Thankfully he does tolerate both pretty well and doesn’t fuss too much when they are required fashion accessories. Speaking of walks — Calvin might walk at a decent pace for about 30 minutes, but he will likely never be a runner or a hiker. He prefers sofa surfing to sidewalk surfing — or long naps on a blanket (no down or feathers, please) in the backyard. His form of exercise is batting his gorgeous eyes at you and trying to get you to give him a belly rub. Calvin does well on car rides, enjoys bar life, and is happy to join you wherever you go in life so long as he can be with you! Calvin gets along okay with other dogs as he is in a foster home with 2 fur siblings — but he is also used to soaking up all the attention and would gladly do that too (and let’s be honest — you might only be able to afford one dog if you adopt Calvin)! Calvin will be a friend that comes with benefits -- in that he is completely housetrained and crate trained (I mean honestly, is he even a dachshund?)...and leash trained too (though we are hoping you read above that the only time he really gets excited for a leash is to go hang out at his favorite bars around town!So if you find that you are an interested adopter with an extra $300 monthly available for his upkeep -- then we know that Calvin is the guy for you! Calvin’s needs really require an adopter that is home more than they are not (bonus points to adopters that work from home or can take Calvin to work with them-- he is currently a well-behaved office dog ). a close eye to keep him from self-harm, and a home that would be invested in continuing the battle of trying to wean Calvin off as much medicine as possible in hopes that one day we can get this sweet boy to the point of never having to use the muzzle and cone to prevent hot spots.  Further bonus points if you love bathing and trimming dogs. Calvin NEEDS and ENJOYS his home baths once a week and fairly regular trims and is wonderfully patient thru both.  Calvin’s adopters need to be within a 3 hour drive of Central NC. He comes with an entire medical history from several specialty vets to help get him started where he lands. ##2041256##

Duncan Dachshund/Lab (dachsador)2 years old38 poundsFostered in Raleigh area Short list: Great with dogs, kids over 5 (good with visiting littles), great with cats, cratetrained, housetrained, needs a home with a spot in the human bed, needs another dog We’ve found the elusive and amazing dachsador – a dachshund and lab mix. And Duncan lives up to the billing – the best of both breeds – sweet, silly, smart and completely adorable. And wherever you go with Duncan, we promise you will never be alone. Everywhere you go you will be met with questions about your boy and his breed.   Duncan gets along with everyone – dogs, cat, kids. He greets everyone with a wagging tail and asking for pets. He would be great in a family with kids over 5 and loves children. In his past home (they had to give him up due to work schedule) he was best friends with a cat. Duncan loves to play with other dogs so would do great in a home with playful dogs as well. But Duncan’s first love is his person. When you come home, he’s waiting at the door for you and gives you the best welcome home dance in the world. And he wants to be as close to you as possible – on the couch, in the bed and wherever you are. This boy is loyal and loving. If you are looking for a brewery dog or a hiking buddy – Duncan is your man. He loves to go for walks and has never met a stranger – just new friends. Did we mention his tail never stops wagging?  He loves to play ball and will even bring it back to you in lab fashion. But give him a squeaky toy and his dachshund side rears it head and all he wants to do is kill the squeakier. Duncan is crate trained and working on housetraining. He’s made progress, but his new family will need to continue working with him and expect occasional accidents. Duncan would do fine with a working family – his foster mom works full-time and he does good with the schedule. Duncan is UTD on shots, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. His new family will need to travel to Raleigh area to adopt him – no transports. We prefer to adopt to homes in NC,  VA, SC, eastern TN, Northern GA, WV, DC and southern MD. To get started bringing Duncan home to your family, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application ##2043615##

Story
Otis is a very handsome red smooth male dachshund.  Otis is 8 years old, a loveable guy and now ready to find a spot and people to call his own forever. Otis' potty habits are improving.  He simply does not love going outside with his humans.  He also is not in love with grass.  Initially, his foster parents struggled to get him to potty outside even with ample time.  That is improving but is certainly not perfect.  Expect some transition & accidents and plan for patience as he learns that most families perfect number 1 and 2 outside!  He does like to pee on his foster parents' bath mat so be prepared. Otis initially barked, alot, when his foster parents left.  That is also improving.  He now settles after a few minutes.  His foster parents work & do leave him during the day, so he can adjust to a schedule.  But Otis probably would not prefer a long 8 hour day alone everyday.  We are open to discussing schedules but just know he may need a little time to adjust. Otis would be fine as an only dog where he would be a lap dog but he started playing with his foster sister and enjoys it.  If Otis were to be adopted to a family home alot with no other dog, he would probably be fine.  If moving to a working family environment, Otis likely needs a fur sibling as we simply worry too much alone time would be hard on him.  Otis does enjoy other dogs & even likes his bossy foster sister.     Otis has to settle into his foster home.  Initially, he followed his foster parents around constantly, looking for them.  He attempted to bolt out the door.  Those behaviors have calmed and now Otis comes when called & his foster parents can redirect him.  A new family should expect some regression but consistently and patience has proven he will settle into the families' routine. His foster parents know he is easily trained as he has responded so well in their home.  Otis has loved all visitors to his foster home & his foster parents describe him as incredible sweet.  Kids over the age of 8 years old should be fine.   Otis recently lost 22 teeth but is otherwise healthy.  He is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccines, neutered, had a dental & is microchipped.  Otis is fostered in the Greensboro, NC area and any interested family will need to travel to the area to meet him.  We wiill consider applicants within several hours of NC and in neighboring states.  Otis' adoption fee is $300. ##2080773##

Story
SadieChiweenie11 (ish) years old9 poundsFostered in Raleigh Short version: Sweet, a touch skittish, loves to snuggle, gets along with dogs but could be only, cat friendly, good with kids of all ages, mostly housetrained, crate trained, leash trained, prefers women, apartment friendly Want a sweet and loving and easy pup?  Then Sadie, is your gal. We took this pup to an event, and she was the belle of the ball – greeting everyone and making new friends. Sadie had a rough beginning and landed in our arms after animal control took her and two other dogs (who have all been adopted) from the home. Like many chiweenies, she can be a bit skittish at first and she doesn’t love being picked up. But when you sit down on the couch or the floor she will come plop in your lap for snuggles. And boy does this baby love to give kisses – lots and lots of kisses.  Sadie prefers women and will almost definitely bond to the woman in the house, but she’s fine living with men, they just likely won’t be her person. Sadie would be great in a home with kids of all ages. She loves to sleep in bed with her people so is looking for a home with a spot in the big bed. During the day, her favorite spot in the home is the back of the sofa. She loves surveying the house and keeping a watch on her kingdom. Sadie gets along with dogs, but bonds more to people – so she would be fine either as part of a pack or as an only. Sadie has done great with her foster mom working full-time and is crate trained. She’s also apartment friendly, which is rare in the dachshund world. This sweet gal is mostly housetrained, but will have occasional accidents if given free rein of the house like many dachshunds – so using a gate and shutting doors is your friend. Her new family should also expect accidents during the transition. Sadie is UTD on shots, spayed, had an extensive dental, had senior bloodwork, HW negative and microchipped. She has a mild (2/6) heart murmur to monitor. Her new family will need to drive to the Raleigh area – no transports. We prefer to adopt her within 4 hours of Central NC, which includes NC, VA, SC and DC area. To get the process started of bringing Sadie home, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application Sadie is a total lovebug and her new family will get paid in kisses and snuggles. ##2032114##
