Story
🐾 Meet Milo! Milo is a 1 year and 4 month old mixed breed with big energy and an even bigger heart. He’s currently being fostered by his original owner while we search for the perfect adoptive family to call his own. 🏡 His current family wasn't really prepared for a dog and said that Milo is bigger than they thought he'd be, weighing in at 20 lbs. 🐶 Why Milo Might Be Your Perfect Match: ✨ He’s affectionate, intelligent, and playful — the kind of pup who gently places a paw on you when he thinks you’re about to leave. ✨ He’s high-energy and would thrive in an active home that enjoys long walks, park adventures, or hiking weekends (with proper hydration and always on leash!). ✨ He can be shy at first, but once you’re in his circle, he’s all cuddles and loyalty. ✨ He’s great with other dogs and does well with children. His exposure to cats has been limited, but neutral so far. ✨ He’s toy-obsessed — his favorites are non-negotiable! ✨ His biggest flaw? He’s got a bit of a thing for toilet paper. You’ll want to keep an eye on the bathroom door. 😅 Milo has been professionally evaluated by our trainer and exhibits typical “tiny dog behavior” — meaning he thrives with structure, boundaries, and positive reinforcement. He’s ready to bond with his people and be the heart of an active, engaged home. If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!

Meet Zip! Breed: Dachshund Mix Age: 17 Weeks Gender: Male Zip is as cute as they come—a sweet, spunky little pup with a big personality! This handsome boy is full of energy and love, making him the perfect companion for an active home that also enjoys plenty of cuddle time. He’s already crate trained, nearly housebroken, and has mastered his “sit” and “stay” commands like a champ. Zip is a fast learner who’s eager to please and soak up all the affection and praise he can get. Whether he’s curled up in your lap or bouncing around with his doggy friends, Zip is sure to bring joy and laughter to your home. He’s great with other dogs and would thrive in a home that can match his playful spirit. If you’re looking for a loving, smart, and fun addition to your family—Zip is your guy! Story
Adoption Donation   $    599                Located:    MS     (Transportation costs included to the Northeast , plz ask for more details )    Age: approx   9 months    Weight:  16 lbs Meet Boyd. This sweet boy was abandoned in Mississippi and was found hungry and scared by the side of the road. We brought him into foster care, he now has a full belly and is getting the vet care and TLC he needs to get him ready for a new home. Boyd is a low-key dog, calm and well mannered, and he warms up quickly when given attention and affection. He's great with mellow dogs, but pushy or aggressive dogs tend to make him nervous! We don't think he's any more than around nine months old so he might get a little bigger, but will likely stay under 20 pounds. He's fine with kids, cats, and every person he meets! He's looking for a family to grow up and grow older and has plenty of love to give.   If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org  and email my foster parent for more information:  friendsoha@yahoo.com Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.   Our adoption application can be found here: https://fohari.org/application/  Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt.  From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit.  If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Our extensive approval process is intended to ensure the best fit between our animals and adopters. Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) reserves the right to deny any adoption application with or without disclosure of cause. Your adoption fee helps to cover the cost of all age appropriate vetting and transportation. FOHARI.ORG makes no explicit or implicit guarantees in reference to the health, temperament and/or the breed of the animal. The animal is adopted ‘as is’, and the adopter assumes all responsibility for treatment of any and all existing conditions or any other conditions of physical or temperament changes that may occur. FOHARI.ORG will provide the animal with the basic vaccines, heart worm test and sterilization of dogs and cats before adoption if the age and current health of the animal permits. While FOHARI.ORG makes every effort to place only healthy animals, FOHARI.ORG cannot guarantee the health of any animal, and shall not be held responsible for any medical expenses that may be incurred. Rescuer will provide information received from the veterinarian exam, observations on the temperament of the animal and a best guess of the breed. Friends of Homeless Animals Inc.
