MEET MAC — A EXTRA LARGE ROTTIE/DOBERMAN/MASTIFF MIX
On Monday, August 23, 2026, we officially welcomed a gigantic Rottweiler/Doberman mix named Mac into the rescue.
Mac's story actually starts with a neighbor in Kingman.
The neighbor remembers when Mac first moved in next door. He was just a little puppy then, visible through the chain-link fence that separated their yards. For more than two years, he watched Mac live outside — through the coldest nights and the hottest Arizona days.
Then one day, Mac's family moved away.
And they left Mac behind.
They never came back.
His neighbor couldn't just watch him go hungry, so he started feeding Mac and giving him water over the fence. For the next couple of months, that's how Mac survived.
Then one day, Animal Control arrived to remove him.
Imagine being Mac. Strange people suddenly enter the only yard you've known, chasing you with a snare. When they finally got the cold steel loop around his neck and began restraining him, Mac panicked and fought desperately to get away.
That reaction landed him on the euthanasia list.
But his neighbor knew the dog on that list wasn't the Mac he knew.
He went to the shelter and asked if he could take Mac himself. At first, they told him no — Mac was considered too dangerous.
So he showed them pictures of this supposedly “dangerous” dog kissing him through the fence.
They changed their minds.
He brought Mac home with the intention of finding him a good home, but every time someone showed interest, something didn't feel right. He worried that some people wanted this enormous, intimidating-looking dog for all the wrong reasons.
So he kept saying no.
Unfortunately, his own dog didn't like Mac and would attack him — and amazingly, Mac wouldn't even fight back.
After a couple of months, he called Rotten Rottie Rescue for help.
We didn't have room at the Ranch, so I called Amanda at Paw Creek Dog Training and asked if she could take him. She could — but we had to wait a couple of weeks for a spot to open.
Monday was finally Mac's day.
His neighbor drove him all the way down from Kingman on Sunday, and Paul Davis drove him to Amanda Monday morning.
And today, Amanda sent me our first official Mac PupDate:
“Mac the Knife is doing really, really well! I worked him for the first time today — prong and e-collar right off the bat because he is TOO DAMN BIG.
He was either trained before, or he is one of the easiest dogs to train, which is pretty common with Dobies.
I was very careful the first couple of days mainly because of his size. If he was going to do anything, there wasn't a whole lot I was going to be able to do. Thank God he is super, super sweet!
Now, he WILL eat a kitty. And he is a giant, so he is going to need someone who wants to build a relationship with him. I would hate for anyone to get hurt in any way by him.”
So there you have it.
The enormous, “dangerous” dog who almost lost his life because he panicked when strangers tried to snare him turns out to be a super sweet, ridiculously trainable giant.
Mac still has some work ahead of him, and his future home is going to need to understand that a dog this large and powerful requires structure, leadership and a real relationship with his person. One of the benefits of having Amanda train our dogs is that she will support the dog's future family with free training lessons so that you can continue to make Mac the best version of himself. You can take Mac to her place for as many free lessons as you would like, and she is always available by text or a phone call for any advice that you need.
And definitely NO CATS.
But Mac is alive today because one neighbor cared enough to feed a forgotten dog, fought for him when the shelter thought he was dangerous, protected him from people he didn't trust, drove him hundreds of miles to us, and refused to give up until Mac was safe.
Sometimes it really does take just one person to change a dog's entire life.

Our Adoption Process... If you are interested in adopting one of our fun loving not so rotten rotties, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire that will allows us to get to know you better and to make sure the dog you are looking at is a good fit for your family and lifestyle. You can access our questionnaire by going to our website, www.rottenrottie.com click on the forms tab, and fill out the questionnaire and submit it online. After we review your answers, if we feel that the dog that you are interested in, is not a good fit for you and your family, we may recommend a different rottweiler companion. After we determine which Rottweiler(s) is the best for you, we will set up a time so that you can meet him or her at their house, where they will feel most comfortable and act as they normally do. We will require a home check to make sure the dog is going to a good home. An adoption contract will be signed to finalize the adoption and we do ask for a rehoming fee of $500 for most adults, $350 for most of our seniors 6 years and above for any rottweiler mix of any age (except puppies) . Our fees for puppies fluctuate depending on how much we had to invest into them or their litter, and weather they are purebred or a mix. These funds are necessary so that our organization may continue to rehome rottweilers. ALL of our dogs are sterilized, fully vaccinated and microchipped, heartworm tested negative and come with a collar and a leash. We have also addressed any injury or illness that they had when they came to us, or received in foster care. These problems will be disclosed to the adopter prior to adoption.
please be advised that in almost all cases we will not adopt our dogs to folks who live in different states. On rare occasion, if we feel that it is a PERFECT for both you and the dog, we sometimes will break that rule for our neighbors who live in Las Vegas.
