*Update* Iceberg has lost +40 lbs now! Iceberg is a four-year-old Doberman mix with a heart as big as her personality. This sweet girl recently came into the care of Big Hearts for Big Breeds, and while she has some significant health and weight challenges ahead of her, she’s already proving to be an incredibly loving and easygoing companion. At approximately 145 pounds, Iceberg is currently extremely obese and likely needs to be closer to 60 pounds for a healthier, more comfortable life. The Big Hearts for Big Breeds team is working closely with veterinary partners to ensure all of her medical needs are addressed and to rule out any underlying conditions contributing to her weight gain. Despite everything, Iceberg remains wonderfully friendly and full of joy. She appears to be kennel trained, potty trained, and does well with just about everyone — kids, dogs, cats, and especially food. She’s currently settling into foster care where she’s beginning a healthier routine filled with steady nutrition, regular walks, swimming, and lots of encouragement (and playtime!) from her foster friends. Iceberg’s journey won’t happen overnight, but she finally has the support she needs to feel better and enjoy life the way every dog deserves. With patience, medical care, and continued love, we’re excited to watch this special girl transform and thrive.

Story

Hanzo is an 9 year old male Doberman. Hanzo’s foster says he has two personalities – Indoor and Outdoor. Indoor Hanzo is calm, gentle, and loves to nap. He loves to cuddle and get pets. Outside, he is excited and ready to play. Hanzo is crate trained, and you’ll almost always find him with a ball or toy in his mouth. Hanzo could use some help with continued leash training. Hanzo has done well with other dogs his whole life – however he can be a bit forward with some dogs. Hanzo was returned to DHDR recently due to not jiving well with the other dog in his adoptive home. We believe Hanzo would do well as an only dog, or possibly with just the right passive dog. However, he can easily be around other pups out in public. Hanzo is one of the easiest dogs we’ve ever had – living with him is relaxing and low-stress. This special boy is going to make someone very happy.

Story

Lulu is 5 years old and healthy, and loves walks along with cuddling on the couch. She is energetic during the day but will relax during the evening. She gets along great with smaller breeds of dogs, but does not do so well when it comes to other large breed dogs. She was trained professionally at clover canine, where she learned many great skills such as sit and heal. She also is e-collar and prong collar trained. She's not a fan of car rides and can have moments of anxiety during fireworks. The reason for us rehoming is we have a 1 year that constantly runs around with treats and snacks and has created some moments of resource guarding on lulus part. We do not recommend Lulu go to a home with toddlers. We would be happy to explain more in detail. We're truly sad that we are in this position, but feel hopeful that she will find a loving home. She on a diet of Science hills Z/D low fat and takes phenylpropanolamine once daily with food to help avoid any accidents while she sleeps.

Story

Django is truly a wonderful dog. He's happy and energetic and has a great disposition. The only thing we have noticed is when someone new comes into the home, he can get very protective. It only lasts a couple of seconds to couple of minutes, but he just needs to be trained, and we just haven't had the time to train him the way he deserves. We already have three dogs, and we took him in as a foster dog along with another one. We just got the one into a home and now it's Django's turn. For anyone serious, we will refund the adoption fee.
