Story
Hey, I'm Hope! I was actually at this shelter back when I was a young pup. My owners were amazing and we worked with trainers consistently, but I don't think the city life or a busy household with kids is for me. I prefer the sereneness of the mountains and big open spaces. Here is a bit about me now that I am all grown up. I LOVE other dogs, and if I could go to a household with a calm and confident canine companion that would be perfect, as they make me feel much safer in the world! Cats on the other hand, are much too tempting to chase and pounce at, so I'll need a home without cats or other small critters. I love giving kisses, showing you all the commands I've mastered (it's an impressive list!) and showing off my ability to run like the wind! I was a fearful puppy, and I still have fearful and anxious tendencies, especially in loud and busy environments. My new owners should be prepared to keep helping me build confidence so that I don't feel threatened by the hustle and bustle of daily life. I struggle with feeling unsafe and uncertain while out on leashed walks. I get frustrated because sometimes I want to investigate something of interest out of curiosity, but sometimes I want things to be further away due to fear. Other times, I am conflicted about whether I want more or less of what I'm seeing. My previous owners were working on my fear-based leash reactivity, and I hope my new home will continue working with me in this area. In the meantime, I will thrive in an environment where meeting my daily exercise needs isn't reliant on walks, which continue to be an ongoing challenge. For this reason, a backyard or acreage lifestyle will be a must. A chill adult-only household will really help so that at least when I'm at home, I can decompress and fully relax. I am happy to make new human friends if I can make the choice to approach them at my own pace, but I find meeting strangers while on leash quite scary. I'd love to live somewhere more rural, rather than in a busy urban neighborhood, as I do best in controlled, predictable environments. Fun fact, my previous owners did a DNA test on me, and it came back 24% Anatolian Shepherd, 22% American Pitbull Terrier, 15% American Staffordshire Terrier, 4% Australian Cattle Dog, and 3% Boxer - what a mix! The staff here already love me to bits, and they are happy to fill you in about me and my training needs in more detail. I would love to find a patient, gentle human, ideally with experience with fearful dogs, and a home that is calm and where I can feel safe. Looking forward to this next chapter and to find my forever home.Interested?! Story
Hey there, the name's Bedard, nice to meet ya! I've travelled all the way from the NWT to find a great forever home here in the Rockies. Despite being a real gem, I wasn't having any luck finding a home up north, so I'm hoping a new set of eyes might help me find my forever home. I am young and active, and looking for a home that is familiar with the typical behaviours of Shepherd mixes. I am a delight to walk on leash, and after a nice stroll I'm happy to hang outside in the backyard or settle in for an afternoon snooze. Being a shepherd/husky mix, I am quite clever and eager to please, so I'd love to learn some new skills or tricks to keep my brain busy. I can get over-excited in some situations, so I am learning to be gentle with my mouth when I get riled up playing and zooming around. I would prefer to be the only furry friend in your life, and dog parks won't be for me right now. Cats will be a definite no go - they're waaay too fun to pounce and bark at! I've heard there are lots of outdoorsy people out here, so I'll fit right in and would love to try out some Rocky Mountain adventuring! I'm a joyful, handsome, and loving dog who can't wait to find a home at long last! Maybe I could come home with you? Interested?! Please fill out our adoption application and submit to adopt@bowvalleyspca.org. Upon approval you will be contacted to arrange an appointment time to come meet me!

Story
We adopted him from 8weeks old. He is 1.5years old. He is a Pure breed Siberian Husky and Pure breed Blue Nose Pitbull. I have had dogs my whole life and Keeneye is definitely a stand out when it came to training, learning and adapting. His instincts are incomparable. He is the most wonderful dog I ever owned. Easy to train, needs a lot of exercise, has the kindest spirit and a craving for constant adventure. He is crate trained, leash trained (but does better off leash) great recall, loves to swim, play with other dogs and loves any bones he can sniff out. I really think he will do best on a farm or acreage with other dogs where he is put to work. You can ensure your home/property will be guarded 24/7 he is very alert, picks up on danger and will let you know if something isn’t right. Most importantly he is aware of what he is capable of and is able to dial it back when it comes to kids. He is a huge cuddle monster at the end of each day. Anyone would be lucky to have Kee.
