We’ve had Lilo for over a year. I got her for a companion for my other cat and he still doesn’t like her. She seems on edge all the time around him. My house is small so I feel like she needs more room. She’s so sweet though and she loves me. I don’t want to rehome her but for her happiness I feel like I would like to find somewhere where she can thrive more.

MochaHello, Mocha fans! The interviewer lady (IL) just got my foster mom`s updated report on my progress. You may recall that in July, my owner surrendered me to HSHC because I was terrified of everything! The other cat, the dog, the children, and even the adults frightened me into hiding. I am an 8-year-old female kitty who has always been a scaredy-cat. Moving into my foster home was the best thing to happen to me. Some things haven`t changed much. The bedroom is still my favorite place to relax, but I come out in the morning and evening to explore the house and greet my foster parents. I am a midnight snacker who likes to eat at night when everyone is asleep. I don`t care for `wet food`; I prefer the crunch of dry food. I have gotten much more comfortable with my foster family, and even visiting guests are tolerable! Belly rubs and spending time with my people cuddling on the sofa or in bed are welcome pastimes IF I instigate contact. I am more comfortable with humans if they don`t make too much noise, as I like a calm vibe in the house. Toys are not my jam; I prefer roaming around when it`s quiet. I use my litterbox without fail and I have discovered the joys of a scratching post! I recently had to return to the HSHC while the family was on vacation. I protested very loudly during the entire trip to the shelter. I was so happy to see them when they returned to bring me home. Regarding my forever family, I will still require a patient person who understands my fears and will give me the time and space to settle in. A quiet home, where everyone is 10 or older, is a must. I would appreciate being the only 4-legged family member, at least for a while. I have high hopes for my future, don`t you? 4-22-25

BelleAt 15, I had given up feeling calm, safe, and content. When the children I lived with were babies and not very active, I was a happy DLH dilute Tortoiseshell girl. Seven years ago, my owner brought a new cat into the home, which was a big adjustment. Once the twin six-year-olds and the 4-year-old child began trying to play with me, I spent all my time under the bed and in the master bedroom closet. When they were at school or asleep I would enjoy spending time with my adults, sitting on their laps, being petted and cuddled. I had access to one litterbox that I shared with the other cat. In hindsight, I realize that I was so stressed out by this situation I forgot how to enjoy life, display good manners, and feel comfortable. Even though this had been my home since I was a kitten, I did not feel at home. On January 2, my owner surrendered me to the HSHC. I was in rough shape with severe matting, a skin infection, and, surprisingly, I had only three legs. Due to an injury when I was a baby, my leg had been amputated. The medical staff treated my issues and gave me medicine, and I began to feel better. In late January, I moved into a foster home, and now I know what it is to feel safe, calm, and content again. My foster mom (FM) reports that I am doing exceptionally well. I have no problems using the litterbox, getting to my food, or moving about my room. I am playing with toys and thoroughly enjoying treats and cuddle time! At first, when I was still taking medication, I was leery of my FM. But now that I am finished with meds, I am always happy to see her. Recently, my FM reported that she did not think I would be the right pet for children. The neighbor`s child came for a visit and was polite, calm, and quiet, but I stayed as far away as possible. I love my FM and will follow her, talking to her and hoping for belly and body rubs. The two dogs in the home don`t bother me now; I feel comfortable exploring the whole house when they are outside. The lesson is that you are never too old to begin having a fantastic life again. 4-2-25
