Story
BinkyIf you go by one of the catios at the front of the HSHC, you are likely to see me sunbathing, snacking, or taking a nap. I have this lovely room to myself as I am not fond of other animals. I`m 9-years-old, spayed, I use the litter box faithfully, I have a healthy appetite, and I am a beautiful, petite, jet black female with a long, lustrous coat. I have my preferences in how I want to live my life. I prefer to be allowed access to the outdoors during the day and welcomed back inside at night. So you could call me an indoor/outdoor kitty. I am a playful girl; my favorite toys are things I can bat around the floor. I have never cared for children, nor do I tolerate other animals in my home. Despite my objections, my owner of eight years preferred to permit those creatures into the house. That is why I was surrendered to the HSHC on March 9, 2025. Good grief! What did the woman expect? She found me as a stray kitten and knew my personality from the beginning. The shelter staff decided I would be happier in a foster home where I could relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the cattery. My foster mom (FM) provided the following updates. It may take me weeks, if not months, to trust, feel comfortable, and relax. Once I felt at home with my FM, I would allow her to pet my head. I would even solicit affection by rubbing against her legs. I loved sleeping in the bed she gave me. I am an excellent user of scratcher boards, scratching poles, and other appropriate surfaces. I was never destructive in my foster home. As a kitten, I may have been disciplined with a hand, because I am fearful of hands coming toward me. I do not enjoy being held, as it is too restraining. The HSHC and my FM agree that I will be happier in a home with adults only and no other pets. They recommend that having calming aids, interactive toys, regular play sessions, and yummy treats will help develop my confidence and sense of security. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by my catio and say hi! 11-26-25

Story
MochaHello, Mocha fans! The interviewer lady (IL) just got my foster mom`s updated report on my progress. You may recall that in July `24, my owner surrendered me to HSHC because I was terrified of everything! The other cat, the dog, the children, and even the adults frightened me into hiding. I am an 8-year-old female kitty who has always been a scaredy-cat. Moving into my foster home was the best thing that ever happened to me. Some things haven`t changed much. The bedroom is still my favorite place to relax, but I come out in the morning and evening to explore the house and greet my foster parents. I`m a midnight snacker who enjoys eating at night when everyone else is asleep. I don`t care for `wet food`; I prefer the crunch of dry food. I have gotten much more comfortable with my foster family, and even visiting guests are tolerable! Belly rubs and spending time with my people, whether cuddling on the sofa or in bed, are welcome pastimes if I initiate contact. I am more comfortable with humans if they don`t make too much noise, as I like a calm vibe in the house. Toys are not my jam; I prefer roaming around when it`s quiet. I use my litterbox without fail, and I have discovered the joys of a scratching post! I had to return to the HSHC while my foster family was on vacation. I protested very loudly during the entire trip to the shelter. I was so happy to see them when they returned to bring me home. Regarding my forever family, I will still require a patient person who understands my fears and will give me the time and space to settle in. A quiet home, where everyone is 10 or older, is a must. I would appreciate being the only 4-legged family member, at least for a while. I have high hopes for my future, don`t you? 7-9-25

Story
Sweet TartDid you notice that if you say my name quickly, it sounds like “sweetheart”? At least that is what the interviewer lady (IL) told me. I am an 8-year-old, DLH female with shiny black hair, white whiskers, and a swatch of white on my neck. I lived with my owner my whole life, but he is getting a divorce, so I moved to the HSHC before Thanksgiving. Because I am healthy, spayed, good at using the litter box, and I’ve lived with cats, I was transferred to the Smitten Kitten Cat Cafe (SKCC) on December 4. I am still feeling a bit shy and getting adjusted to the change, so when the IL visited the newly arrived cats, I was hiding behind a cat tree. After a bit of sweet-talking, she convinced me to peek out and look at her. It didn’t take long before I came out for some pets and chin scratches. I even let her take my picture. She told me I was a beautiful cat, but my lovely coat needed some brushing. I hope my future owner will help me maintain my appearance. My owners said that I am a friendly girl when I feel safe and comfortable. I admit that I was very attached to my male owner and would snuggle with him. The kids were a bit too much for me to handle, and I would avoid them. I have always gotten along with other cats. I have a big appetite, even though I weigh only 10 pounds. I hope someone will come into the SKCC, meet me, and decide I must go home with them! 12-8-25

Please do not send inquiries. These cats can be visited at PetSmart in Carmel/Westfield (14720 Greyhound Plaza) during store business hours. Applications are available at the store. These are not “cuddlers”. These are young adults that came to us from Indy Neighborhood Cats when they were kittens. They were born feral and we have been working on socialization for months. They do NOT like to be picked up, and allow us to pet them on their terms. But they LOVE playtime with tunnels and cat trees. ADOPTER WILL NEED TO CONTINUE SOCIALIZATION and BE PATIENT. WE WILL ONLY ADOPT THEM AS A BONDED PAIR. Azalea is a sweet girl who will be the first to come out of her shell. She loves attention. But she loves her nightly can of Fancy Feast pate more! This will be the secret to winning both of them over. Larkspur will not let you move him, pick him up, or do anything to him, except pet him sometimes. He was the spiciest kitten when he came to us and hasn't changed much. He does not trust human hands. To trim claws, we do muzzle him. Thanks to another foster cat, Larkspur would come up to us begging for attention while the other foster cat got his daily loving. Larkspur ran off after a few pets. A PetSmart employee also helped with his socialization and now he comes out seeking attention when he gets his nightly canned food. Larkspur needs a covered litter box with no door or he'll overshoot the sides of the litter box. (The litter box in their cage is included with their adoption.) These cats have not been around dogs or small children. We insist on a cat-only household with children over 12. They do great with other cats. Azalea & Larkspur are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and are microchipped. Approximate date of birth is August 21, 2022. Adoption fee = $75 per cat ($150 total)

Currently in the Indianapolis area. Leo was given to us by a family moving 8 years ago. I have taken him to get shots every except for 2025. He is a great relaxing cat, he loves laying on my lap and chest to sleep as I watch TV. My sons are in college and I am moving to new city unknown about the kind of housing. Leo is a long black/white hair he enjoys playing with toys. He loves cardboard pads. He will snuggle on bed with you.

Story
Magic joined our family around two years ago when she was born in our backyard as a stray. Together with her brother, Margo, they stayed in our home and learned to be a housecat. Magic is a beautiful cat who loves to be pet on her behind, and will let you know when she needs attention. Magic has a cute "meow" that is quiet and shy. She loves to join whoever is on the couch watching TV, to get the petting she loves. Magic is friendly with other cats and helps groom them too. Unfortunately, due to our landlord agreement, we are unable to keep her and are looking for a new forever home for her. We believe it would be best if she gets re-adopted with her brother, but she would be fine as a lone cat as well. She will bring love and joy to any home that would be lucky to have her!
