Story
TigressaI am one of those beautiful ladies who want to be wooed, courted, and showered with love before she agrees to a permanent relationship. I have lived with two owners, the first of whom was allergic to me. My second owner and I lived together for three years before she surrendered me to HSHC on December 9. We got along like peanut butter and jelly until two significant changes occurred. First, unbelievably, they changed the front door without even asking for my approval! Secondly, her son, grandson, and their dog moved into my home with NO warning. It is a basic fact of life that cats hate change, and the only way to make it bearable is to give the cat a safe place to be alone and decompress for as long as it takes to feel at peace. The interviewer lady has stopped by my apartment several times, and I have always remained in my Kasa. However, I let her pet me today and rub my ears and chin. It was delightful having her undivided attention. She agrees that I am a striking beauty with a long grey and buff-colored coat. I am only 5-years-old, spayed, and litterbox trained. She thinks I will make a loving companion with a patient owner, no other animals in the home, and everyone at least 16 years or older. I`ll leave you with my favorite quote. `Don`t hate me because I`m beautiful` - Pantene Shampoo. 1-8-25

Story
George & Bootsy You may remember us from our interview in January. We are a unique bonded couple who met on a blind date. Bootsy, at 13-years-old, is the elder of us, and I, at just 12, am the younger. We`ve been through a lot, including a period of illness, and were fortunate to spend time with a wonderful foster mom. Here is a summary of her feedback on our special bond. George and Bootsy were my first elderly cat fosters and my first time fostering a bonded pair. Despite their illness, they showed remarkable resilience and were the sweetest, most loving cats I`ve ever had. Having a bonded pair was a joy and blessing! Bootsy loves to cuddle up to your chest and snooze the day away. George always ended up napping away on my legs. It was like a full-body cat hug! Even when they were at their sickest and being syringe-fed medicine twice daily, George and Bootsy never tried to bite, scratch, or even hiss at me. They were uncomfortable, and no one likes taking meds, but they were sweet and quick to look for cuddles afterward. It absolutely blew me away! Once they began to feel better, their personalities shone through. Bootsy loves to sunbathe and watch the world go by. While George is a proper little hunter and still loves to play in his old age. I was absolutely blessed to foster these sweethearts and will never forget them.We are a comfortable couple, satisfied with a warm place to nap, kind treatment, and a loving home. We have lived with cats, dogs, and kids, but a peaceful atmosphere would be welcome. If you are also a member of AARP, you may enjoy company while watching TV. 8-19-24

Story
RileyI wish I could speak human language to explain how I`m feeling, why I might be unhappy, and what makes me the happiest. I moved to the HSHC on July 13 because my owner`s health was declining. I was so unhappy living in the cattery with so many cats that I was sent to live in a foster home. I love my foster mom very much and feel relieved to be out of the shelter. My primary complaint is about living with cats. I cannot stand them. Unfortunately, my foster mom has cats, and we must be in separate parts of the house. The great thing about me is that I am highly low-maintenance. All I desire is a comfortable place to nap, catnip toys, a human in the room for company, and some Meow Mix. I`m nuts about the teenage daughter of the home and will cuddle with her. My foster mom says I would be perfect for a retired couple or a single person with no other animals. She also loves that I stick my little tongue out when I meow. She cracks up every time! Oh, by the way, my front paws were declawed years ago. Please consider adopting me if you like handsome orange cats. 12-6-24

Story
MochaI am so pleased that the interviewer lady (IL) corresponded with my foster mom. She can post an updated story about me. In July, my owner surrendered me to HSHC because I was terrified of everything! The other cat, the dog, the children, and even the adults frightened me into hiding. I am an 8-year-old female kitty who never learned to become a social cat. However, since being in my foster home, I`ve made significant progress. My foster mom says I hide in the bedroom throughout the day, but I`ll come out in the evening to eat and explore the house. I like to eat at night when everyone is asleep, but sometimes I make an exception. I enjoy dry food over wet. Since being in my foster home, I`ve learned to love belly rubs and cuddling on the sofa or in bed. However, it is only when I seek it out, not when you instigate contact. I am comfortable with humans if they don`t make too much noise. I like a calm vibe in the house. Toys are not my jam; I prefer roaming the house if it is quiet. I use my litterbox without fail! I want to be relaxed and confident with people and learn to be social and outgoing. This will take a patient person who understands my fears and will give me the time and space to settle in. A quiet home, where everyone is 10 or older, is a must. I would appreciate being the only 4-legged family member, at least for a while. The IL knows that I crave affection and attention. Now, I need to find an owner to help me become the cat I want to be. 12-2-24

Story
CallieDid you know I was originally from Idaho, the Gem State! So, I like to think of myself as a true gem of a cat. My former name was Madame Fluff, which seems very appropriate. I am 9-years-old, and my latest owner had me for a year, but I was surrendered due to allergies. My newest name would indicate that I am a Calico cat. But I am really more like a long-haired Tortoiseshell. I recall that I enjoy the company of kids and love being held and playing with my human. My medical examination revealed that I have a common condition called Hyperthyroidism. It was apparent to the staff that my low weight and unkempt appearance suggested this disease. Hyperthyroidism is a manageable condition that can be controlled with a reasonably priced, twice-daily medication. It can be given as a tablet or a gel that is wiped on my ears. With proper care, I can live a long, healthy life. It has been quite a while since I have been groomed, and I have loads of mats throughout my coat. But the interviewer lady soon found out that I am a love bug. I went right up to her and snuggled close to her shoulder. I crave affection and attention, and my sweet personality makes it easy to provide these. I may not be the most enormous kitty in the cattery, but I am one of the loveiest. I have lived in a foster home, and my foster mom reports the following information about me.I have excellent litterbox skills.I like to be with my person all the time. I don`t enjoy being shut in a room by myself. I thrive on human company and would prefer a home where I can be with my person most of the time.I am fine with other cats but not interested in playing. I`m low energy.I love people. I am a professional LAP CAT! I want to be petted and cuddled, all the while purring.I look forward to meeting my forever owner asap! 12-2-24

Story
UshiGood Grief! Lately, my life has been one shocking event after another. I lived with a lovely lady in Arizona and we got along famously. However, we moved to Indiana, and then six weeks later, we moved into a new house where the resident cat took an instant dislike to me. He kept starting fights with me, and I am a lover, not a fighter! So, on November 4, I was surrendered to the HSHC to keep me safe. I am a shy guy, 7-years-old, neutered, and I use the litterbox well when I am not terrified! Because I am such a timid soul, I am being fostered by one of the cattery staff members, and she reports the following information: This handsome man is shy and reserved, but once you start petting him, he melts into your hands. This sweet fellow absolutely craves love. He has an amazing purr, but you must go slow with him because loud noises and fast movements scare him. He enjoys your affectionate attention as long as you don`t come on too strong. So far, he hides during the day and comes out at night. Overall, he is just a shy cat who needs an understanding, patient person. He`ll come out of his shell with time and be the best companion.I`d say this is a fantastic recommendation. I discovered that my foster mom had a camera in my room, and she caught me playing in the middle of the night! I was giving a pipe cleaner a thorough workout. I am also stoked about the cardboard cat scratch pad. One of my favorite things she does is to get under the futon (my favorite hiding spot) with me. I soon calm down and let her cuddle with me. Now, I do have to disclose that the medical staff learned I am FIV+ and FeLV+. FIV is a virus found only in cats that can lower a cat`s immune system. FeLV is a retrovirus that also only infects cats. The virus spreads by inserting copies of its own genetic material into the host cat`s cells. The cells may then transform into cancer cells. FeLV cats can only live with other FeLV cats. If you decide you would still like to offer me a home, please know that you are doing a very noble thing. You are giving a chance to a cat that sometimes doesn`t have much of a chance. * Although my lifespan may be shorter than that of a FeLV- cat, that life can be filled with happiness for both of us. Please consider me for adoption. 1-21-25* Understanding FeLV: Loving and Living with FeLV Cats. https://www.lifewithcats.tv/understanding-felv-loving-and-living-with-felv-cats-2/

Bunny and Cruella are the sweetest little dilute sisters. Their owner unfortunately had to move into a place where they couldn't have pets. He was concerned about them and reached out to our rescue. We would like to keep these girls together as they are bonded and would be sad without one another. They love to snuggle with you in bed and get lots of pets and cuddles!

Please do not send inquiries. These cats can be visited at PetSmart in Carmel/Westfield (14720 US 31N) during store business hours. Applications are available at the store. These are not “cuddlers”. These are young adults that came to us from Indy Neighborhood Cats when they were kittens. They were born feral and we have been working on socialization for months. They do NOT like to be picked up, and barely allow us to pet them. But they LOVE playtime with tunnels and cat trees. ADOPTER WILL NEED TO CONTINUE SOCIALIZATION and BE PATIENT. WE WILL ONLY ADOPT THEM AS A BONDED PAIR. Azalea is a sweet girl who will only let you pet her on her terms. Larkspur will not let you move him, pick him up, or do anything to him, except pet him sometimes. He was the spiciest kitten when he came to us and hasn't changed much. He does not trust human hands. Thanks to our foster Purrcy, Larkspur will come up to me begging for attention while Purrcy is getting his daily loving. He runs off after a few pets. He needs a covered litter box with no door or he'll overshoot the sides of the litter box. These cats have not been around dogs or small children. We insist on a cat-only household with children over 12. They do great with other cats. Azalea & Larkspur are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and are microchipped. Approximate date of birth is August 21, 2022. Adoption fee = $75 per cat ($150 total)

Story
Moose was in a set of cats we took in from around the Ft. Meyers local shelter. They were severely affected by the hurricane, and we drove down and took some animals to help and adopt out. We don't have history or his story. He was shaved when he came into the shelter in Florida, as there was hurricane debris stuck in his long hair, and no way to brush it out. Because of that, he will require medical shaving occasionally. He is the first one to greet you when you enter the room, and always wants pets. Don't let his age fool you, he is very active!
