Story
Susan is a fluffy black cat who likes to be noticed and appreciated but also values her personal space. A former feral turned friendly girl, Susan is a cat for experienced cat owners only who understand patience, cat communication/body language and the need to allow the cat to bloom and bond 100% at their own pace over time. The home environment needs to be peaceful and tranquil, with no children under the age of 16. In addition to unrestricted access to a warm, safe home environment, Susan also needs safe restricted access to the outdoors - for example, a screened porch or safe outdoor area with cat-proof fencing. Approx. DOB: 2011If you would to adopt Susan, please call our office at (919) 542-6815 to arrange a visit in person, and be sure to complete our online application, too (www.goathouserefuge.org/adoption-application/). Your application will then be reviewed by the refuge staff, and if the applicant seems to be a good fit for the cat(s) of interest, the refuge will contact the interested party to set up a home visit. Only after a representative of the refuge conducts a thorough home visit will the refuge then consider continuing with the adoption process.

Story
Like a properly brewed cup of tea, handsome Earl Grey is at once subtle and commanding, a full-bodied guy with a gentle, unassuming personality. For years, Earl Grey remained fearful of people, preferring to hang back on the perimeters of the outside enclosure. When a new enclosure was constructed for our more shy kitties at the refuge, Earl Grey was relocated by the staff in hopes he’d make some gradual progress with socialization. And what a difference it has made! Earl Grey hangs out in the main room of the adoption building a good bit now, waiting on feeding times. A couple of our dedicated volunteers have made efforts to interact with him on a regular basis, and he now allows gentle pets from those who’ve showed him consistent kindness and patience, and we look forward to seeing him continue to gradually come out of his shell.Earl Grey is a cat for experienced cat owners only who understand patience, cat communication/body language and the need to allow the cat to bloom and bond 100% at their own pace over time. Story
Nala was found abandoned with her four tiny kittens at a vet's office in Mt. Airy, NC. Luckily, the refuge was contacted about their rescue, and Nala and her babies were lovingly cared for by one of our wonderful foster families to ensure they all received plenty of individualized care. Nala is a beautiful long-haired tabby girl: a rare occurrence since most orange tabbies are males! She is extremely shy and cautious around new people and can often be found hanging out around our shy cat room where she enjoys the many perches and the extra layer of security offered by this quieter, low traffic space. Nala is a cat for experienced cat owners only who understand patience, cat communication/body language and the need to allow the cat to bloom and bond 100% at their own pace over time. The home environment needs to be peaceful and tranquil, with no children under the age of 16. If you would like to meet Nala, please stop by for a visit during our visiting hours Friday-Sunday between 11 AM-3 PM and our volunteers would be happy to initiate an introduction. Approx. Story
Stella Bella was a gorgeous long-haired kitty who was black with a mix of gray when she came to the refuge. She was very pregnant when she was surrendered to the refuge by a former Goathouse employee in hopes that she would have a safe place to deliver her babies. Within a few days of her arrival, she gave birth to 4 kittens on 4-10-21. Stella Bella and her babies have been receiving wonderful care in a foster home, and while Stella Bella remains very guarded and avoidant of people, we hope with time she will grow to trust humans so that she can find a great forever home once her kittens no longer need her to mother them. She lost a great deal of fur during her pregnancy which is growing back with no gray nor white except the round white dot on her chest, and she is very petite for an adult kitty. It is thought that she will eventually be a medium to long haired solid black kitty with one dot of white at her chest. Stella Bella would prefer a very quiet, patient family with experience in cat socialization so she can have the space and supportive guidance she needs in order for her to thrive.Approx. DOB: 04-01-18Interested in adopting a Goathouse cat or kitten? Then please start by completing the following steps required in our screening process:1) Complete our online adoption application: Visit www.goathouserefuge.org/adoption-application/ to get started!2) Arrange to visit the cat(s) in person: Please check our website for current visiting hours at our Pittsboro refuge. If your application indicates an interest in a cat currently in foster or at Cat Tales Cat Cafe, we will inform you on steps to take to arrange a cafe or foster visit.3) Complete a home visit: Once you confirm that you've visited in person with the cat(s) of interest and completed the online application, your responses will be reviewed by the refuge staff so that a volunteer member of our home visit team can contact you to schedule a visit. Only after a representative of the refuge has visited the applicant's home will the refuge consider continuing with the adoption process.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Her name might be Trouble, but let us assure you this lovely lady is anything but! As a stray seeking food and shelter in her youth, Trouble luckily found her way to a loving caretaker. At first she was an outdoor-only kitty, but when an injury resulted in the amputation of a hind leg, Trouble's caretaker decided to bring her indoors, and Trouble adjusted perfectly to her new indoor-only life. Sadly, after nine years of happiness, Trouble's family fell on hard times, and not wanting her to end up in the county shelter, they reached out to the Goathouse to see if we could help. At first, Trouble was a bit shy, clearly saddened and confused by the loss of her home & family. But it was clear to the Goathouse staff that all Trouble wanted was to be loved, and she has slowly but surely come out of her shell, now welcoming affection from visitors. You may have to seek her out - she's sweet but not especially demanding of attention - but we promise you'll be rewarded with tons of headbutts and loud purrs. Trouble recently had major dental work completed and is up to date on all vetting. Now all she needs is a forever home where she can leisurely spend her golden years. Could you be the one she's been hoping to meet?Approx. DOB: 11/30/2012
