Nisha can sometimes seem to have strong opinions, but we don't blame her. She's just misunderstood. She just wants to be the one and only queen of your castle. Once she's there, she will be calm, purring and affectionate. We would love for you to come meet royalty!

Story
Nala was found abandoned with her four tiny kittens at a vet's office in Mt. Airy, NC in May of 2016. Luckily, the refuge was contacted about their rescue, and Nala and her babies were lovingly cared for by one of our wonderful foster families to ensure they all received plenty of individualized care. Nala is a beautiful long-haired tabby girl: a rare occurrence since most orange tabbies are males! She is extremely shy and cautious around new people and can often be found hanging out around our back room where she enjoys the many perches and the extra layer of security offered by this quieter, low traffic space. Nala is a cat for experienced cat owners only who understand patience, cat communication/body language and the need to allow the cat to bloom and bond 100% at their own pace over time. The home environment needs to be peaceful and tranquil, with no children under the age of 16. If you would like to meet Nala, please stop by for a visit during our visiting hours Saturday-Sunday between 11 AM-3 PM and our volunteers would be happy to initiate an introduction. Approx. DOB: 07/11/2015

Story
Stella Bella was a gorgeous long-haired kitty who was black with a mix of gray when she came to the refuge in April of 2021. She was very pregnant when she was surrendered to the refuge by a former Goathouse employee in hopes that she would have a safe place to deliver her babies. Within a few days of her arrival, she gave birth to 4 kittens. She lost a great deal of fur during her pregnancy which has grown back with no gray nor white except the round white dot on her chest, and she is very petite for an adult kitty. Stella Bella remains guarded of people and would prefer a very quiet, patient family with experience in cat socialization so she can have the space and supportive guidance she needs in order for her to thrive.Approx. Story
Elijah is a beautiful black kitty with a stubby tail. He was brought to the refuge with his siblings Rulo, Georgie, Nola, Bruce and Puma I. Elijah experienced a bad reaction to his first rabies vaccination, and as a result he developed some special needs. Siglinda has been working with Elijah to help him with these issues, and we’d love for him to find a dedicated foster or adopter willing to provide the supportive environment that he needs to thrive. Elijah is fine around other cats and would be perfectly content in a home with another easy-going young cat. Approx. DOB: 03-01-2019Interested in adopting a Goathouse cat or kitten? Story
If your heart melts for quiet souls with deep, thoughtful eyes and a gentle spirit, let us introduce you to Ramsey — a soft, introverted sweetheart who speaks in whispers rather than shouts. This handsome orange boy may not rush into your lap, but once he decides you’re safe, his affection is tender, sincere, and absolutely priceless. Ramsey is the quieter half of a perfect bonded pair. He’s observant and thoughtful, taking in the world from a cozy spot where he can watch everything unfold. He warms up slowly, but when he does, you’ll be rewarded with the sweetest signs of trust: soft blinks from across the room, choosing to nap near you, or settling close by just to share your space. His love is gentle and steady — the kind that grows roots. And while Ramsey is the introspective one, he’s never alone. His twin brother, Simba, is his sunshine — the confident, affectionate cuddlebug who helps Ramsey feel brave. These boys were rescued together from a local feral colony as very young kittens, and thanks to the loving care of their rescuer and the kind folks at IAR, they’ve transformed into happy, comfortable indoor housecats who rely on each other in the sweetest ways. Simba gives Ramsey the courage to explore; Ramsey gives Simba the calm anchor he adores. They nap curled up together, groom each other, and share a bond that’s unshakeable. They are truly two halves of one heart. Ramsey and Simba will thrive in a peaceful, patient home with humans who understand and appreciate both tender quietness and playful affection. Ramsey will blossom for someone who lets him move at his own pace, and once he does, you’ll discover the softest love imaginable. Simba, of course, will happily provide nonstop snuggles, purrs, and comic relief. 💕 If you’re looking for… ✔ A sweet, sensitive introvert who will love you in his own gentle way (Ramsey!) ✔ An affectionate, confident orange cuddlebug (Simba!) ✔ A perfectly balanced bonded pair who complete each other ✔ Double the love, double the charm, double the orange floof …then Ramsey & Simba may be your perfect match. Ready to meet these two special boys? Tap “apply to adopt,” and their foster parents will be in touch to arrange a meet & greet if it seems like a good fit!
