Sweet boy Frankie is again looking for another chance to live a life filled with security and love. Frankie is a big boy tuxedo who will be 8 years old in September. He's been surrendered twice in the past two years, though no fault of his making but because of change in family circumstances. An animal shelter is overwhelming for most animals but going through that twice, was just too much for a shy cat like Frankie so he's currently living in loving foster home, which he shares with another cat. Frankie and the other cat get along but for his new home, Frankie would prefer to be the only cat, or if another cat, must be one who will mostly ignore Frankie - they would exist in same household but pay each other no mind. From his humans, Frankie needs wet food for his meals as he has no teeth. But just as important as the right diet, Frankie needs a calm house with humans who will love him forever. Butterscotch has had a rough few months - he was adopted but then was returned as the person didn't feel they could care for him. Let's just get this out at the beginning ... this cat (and his brother) came into the shelter terrified, which is understandable once their story is known. Born 3/28/21 (per the family who had them since birth), for the last 2 years these cats have basically been kept in a very small room, maybe a closet, with little or no human interaction other than being given food/water and litter box care. The reason was that one of the family members was highly allergic and so the other person didn't interact with the cats so as to not cause a reaction in the allergic family member. The family tried unsuccessfully for 2 years to rehome the pair.Home Fur Good agreed to take the cats - to help give them the chance at a great life with an experienced cat family who understands cat behavior and needs, particularly with terrified felines. The key is a lot of patience, love, and maybe a few treats. In the dog/cat rescue world, there is a 3-3-3 Guideline. New pets need: 3 days to decompress; 3 weeks to settle in; 3 months to feel at home. But for many animals, this rule could be the 6-6-6 rule, or an even higher number. New pets need to be allowed whatever time they need to learn to trust again so whomever adopts this kitty should understand and believe in this process. We know out there is someone who is willing to show Porkchop that the world can be a safe and loving space.Our staff and volunteers will continue to work with each cat, letting each adjust at their own pace to a world of noises, humans, and more indoor freedom. They are already making progress here at the shelter as they will play with a wand toy from inside their condo. Will accept treats that are dropped into their kitty condo. Porkchop is indeed very curious and loves to sniff and bat around toys that are offered. Chamoy is a 3-year-old handsome boy who needs to find his special furever home. He has been at HFG for over a year! His time here started out a little rocky, as it was hard on him to adjust to shelter life. Most cats don't experience living in a kennel at all, especially not around so many other cats and the sounds of barking dogs. Chamoy would get overstimulated easily, and in turn was not great with the other cats, sometimes the humans as well. He was also starting to spray in his condo. Now that Chamoy has spent some time here, he has improved so much, and we know him very well! The more time he gets out of his condo, the better he is. He doesn't like being cooped up, and we don't blame him for that. Chamoy has been very very affectionate these last few months and has been much better with the other cats! He is less selective about his cat friends now but prefers female cats most of the time. His favorite thing to do other than getting love from his favorite humans is spending time in the sink. He loves drinking the water and letting it run down his back! Although he started out on a spicy streak, listening to his body language and not petting him when he is not ready has shown him that he can trust more, and he is reacting to people in a sweeter more appropriate way. He barely sprays anymore and we are hoping that will not continue outside of shelter life.
