Story
Addie is an active girl looking for an adopter that can give her lots of opportunities for exercise and enrichment! She enjoys romping around with other pups and has also lived with a cat (though some cats might not appreciate her attempts to play!). Addie isn`t a fan of sharing her food with other dogs, so if living with another dog, her family will need to be committed to management around meal times. At this time, HSBV will only rehome her to a family either without children or with children over the age of 10, due to Addie`s rambunctious nature.

Story
Meet Alana  Female DOB: May 29, 2025 Weight: 25 pounds currently (medium small) Breed: Dutch Shepherd Terrier mix Spayed (Fixed) Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Alana is a sweet, loving young dog with a gentle personality and affectionate nature. At approximately 1 year old, she has moved beyond the demanding puppy stage but still has plenty of youthful energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm for life. She enjoys spending time with her people and thrives on companionship and affection. Alana is the type of dog who enjoys being part of the family, whether that's relaxing at home, joining you for walks, or simply being nearby throughout the day. As a Terrier mix, Alaana may show traits such as: Intelligence and eagerness to learn Loyal and affectionate companionship Playful but manageable energy Curiosity and engagement with her surroundings Strong bonds with her family Terrier mixes are often adaptable, loving companions who thrive with structure, interaction, and positive reinforcement. Alana would thrive in a home prepared for: Daily exercise and walks Continued training and guidance Mental stimulation and enrichment Structure, consistency, and routine A lifelong commitment to her physical and emotional well-being She would make a wonderful companion for a family looking for a loving dog with a sweet disposition and loyal heart. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from uncertain beginnings and may not have had structure, socialization, or training before arriving at rescue. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even friendly and well-adjusted dogs benefit from continued guidance, consistency, and positive reinforcement after adoption. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should expect to continue training and support after adoption. Alaana will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Daily structure and routine Continued socialization and exposure Exercise and mental stimulation Patience, consistency, and supervision Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, guidance, and commitment, rescue dogs like Alaana blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes training, daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, financial responsibility, and emotional commitment throughout every stage of life. Alaana will need: Daily walks, exercise, and interaction Continued training and guidance Routine veterinary care and wellness exams Preventative care including flea, tick, and heartworm prevention Proper nutrition and weight management Mental stimulation and enrichment A safe, stable, indoor living environment Consistent veterinary care, emotional stability, proper nutrition, and daily companionship are all essential to helping Alaana thrive in her future home. Alaana is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside. Story
I was part of a litter called the Seasoning Squad! I was adopted in 2025 and now I'm back through no fault of my own. My people just didn't have a place for me to stay with them when they moved. I'm thought to be a dutch shepherd mix, but probably a mix of a lot of things. I am a good girl and hoping you'll give me a chance to show it. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2498421##

Story
Reintroducing Junie After an allergy in her previous foster home forced a change — through no fault of her own — Junie settled into her new foster home like she had always belonged there. And we’d like to officially reintroduce her here as well! Junie’s previous foster was heartbroken to say goodbye and was crying while writing Junie’s bio because she loves Junie so much and misses her. That’s the kind of dog Junie is: the kind who quietly works her way into your life until you can’t imagine the house without her. Junie’s Perfect Day Junie’s perfect day starts with some time in the yard, where she can explore, sniff every interesting scent, and keep an eye on everything happening around her. She loves being included and is always curious about what her people are up to. Once she’s had time to investigate the yard, Junie is ready to head out for an adventure. She enjoys walks and loves tagging along to coffee shops, breweries, patios, and other dog-friendly spots. She may be a little shy when she first arrives somewhere new, but give her a little time to take everything in, and her curious, playful personality starts to shine. Junie is wonderful with children and gets along well with other dogs. She may take a little time to warm up, but once she feels comfortable, she’s happy to join the fun. After a busy day, Junie is content to settle in at home with her people. She knows sit and stay, sleeps comfortably in her kennel or on her bed, and has had no overnight accidents. She also enjoys chewing on tree branches, because apparently sticks are more exciting than any toy you could buy her. And wherever the day takes you, Junie will be nearby, making sure she doesn’t miss anything. She’s ready for a forever family who will appreciate her sweet nature, goofy habits, and enthusiasm for being included — whether that means heading out for the day, relaxing in the yard, or settling in for a quiet evening together. Junie is ready to be your girl. ##2819655##
