"Meet your new shadow – Bridie 💕 This stunning, 55-lbs, brindle beauty is a 1–2 year old Dutch Shepherd with a heart as big as her ears are alert. She’s the definition of a Velcro dog — if you’ve ever wanted a loyal sidekick who thinks you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to Earth… congratulations, you’ve met your girl. ✨ The Good Stuff: Absolutely adores humans (big fan of her people) Potty trained ✔️ Loves toys — squeaky, tug, toss… yes please! Couch privilege is non-negotiable (she’s a professional snuggler) Will happily follow you from room to room as your devoted assistant 🐾 Dog Skills: She’s dog selective and prefers slow, proper introductions. She may thrive as your one-and-only or with the right respectful canine match. 💛 Her Heart: She bonds deeply and loves being close. She does experience some separation anxiety, but she’s working hard on building confidence and making progress every day. She would do best with a mom or dad who is home more often than not and committed to continuing her growth. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, brindle best friend who wants nothing more than to be your shadow (and share your couch), she’s ready to clock in for lifetime duty. 🐾 Your home. Her heart. Forever." Birdie is being fostered in Thornton, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/birdie/. Story
Scamp was born 12/30/2021, I got him March 2022. He will be 5 this December. He is the most well socialized dog. He has been around all kind of cats, other dogs, he’s a very well travel dog, and very good road companion. He loves kids, and people. A total of 6 times over the years, he’s been weary of certain men, but he is absolutely loving of the other hundreds of people he’s met. He is submissive with some dogs, and rambunctious with others, he truly “matches energy” at play time. He is potty trained, I have been far too busy, so he has had some accidents but under normal circumstances he’s fully potty trained, it’s truly been my failing and not his. That is part of what has brought me to the heartbreaking decision to let him find a better owner. He deserves the world, and I am just drowning right now. He eats open farm dog food, it’s a “grade A” formula and it works really well for him. He is kennel trained, but will also cuddle if you allow him.

Story
I adopted this little guy in LA last year. He's a really sweet dog. At first he was wild and injured my shoulder. After that I went through training with him and he cleared up a ton! Its just that now after I moved here for work, he developed this separation anxiety I can't really take care of due to my work commitments and other stuff like going to the gym. Pair that with him living in a cramped apartment - this poor little guy deserves better than what I can provide. He is super cuddly and curious. Anytime he hears someone new on a call he joins and watches them. He'd always be with me in the kitchen when I'd cook and give me puppy-eyes for a sample. He doesn't pull when I walk him. He loves to cuddle. He has never had a history of being aggressive towards other dogs. He knows the commands: sit, lay down, poop (yes he poops on command) and reluctantly does 'go' when you point somewhere. He comes with a month of food, treats, toys, & a crate. He deserves a good life :(

Story
Hi, I'm JoJo! I'm a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd mix. I'm as loveable as can be and am such a good boy! I get along great with other dogs, walk okay on a leash, and am even potty-trained. I need a home without cats though as I like to chase them. I'm in a foster home and patiently waiting for my chance at a forever home.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2684105##

See mommy and babies here: https://youtube.com/shorts/aGm7odM95V0 This is not a contagiou condition (they will arrive with treatment already started and meds to make it non contagious). It's very treatable and managanle :) Mommy just needs someone to take her in and give her some TLC!  She needs a foster by 4/8. Fosters also get the first opportunity to adopt - so if Dilly seems like she may be a good fit, don't miss out! Apply to foster today :)  ##2698832##

Story
******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Sarge is a neutered 2 year old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix currently being fostered in Denver, CO. Sarge is an outgoing, playful, and affectionate boy with a big personality and an even bigger love for fun. He is smart, curious, and full of energy, and he thrives when he has opportunities to play, explore, and be active with his people. Sarge loves other dogs and is always eager to make friends. He will happily nudge a dog to invite them to play and enjoys running and tug of war, especially with dogs his size or larger. While he gets excited and may pull toward dogs on leash, he is not aggressive and does well with slow, proper introductions. He is great at picking up on cues and will back off when another dog is done playing. Sarge has a moderate to high energy level and would do best in an active home. He would love daily walks, hikes, playtime, and mental stimulation. A fenced yard would be a big bonus, but he could also thrive with a family committed to keeping him exercised. He would do well with or without another dog in the home. On leash, Sarge could use some continued training. He is strong and tends to pull, but he responds well to guidance and does great with a gentle leader. He is fully house trained and crate trained, sleeping in his crate overnight and when his people are out. He can also be trusted with free roam, as he is not destructive. Sarge is a total lovebug with people. He is very cuddly, affectionate, and happy to greet new friends, though he may jump a bit when excited. He loves toys and proudly hoards them, lining them up one by one like treasured possessions. One of his cutest habits is doing a full somersault onto his dog bed after running inside. Sarge would be an amazing match for an active person or family looking for an adventure buddy. Older kids or dog savvy children would be best since he can be jumpy when excited. With continued leash training, plenty of toys, and lots of outdoor time, Sarge will be a loyal, joyful companion. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him? Story
Meet Bo Breed: Belgian Malinois / Mastiff Mix Sex: Male DOB: August 3, 2022 Weight: 70 Pounds Health: Healthy and doing well Bo is a handsome, intelligent boy with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This energetic Malinois/Mastiff mix combines the loyalty and devotion of both breeds with a playful spirit that makes every day feel like an adventure. Sadly, Bo has become one of the rescue’s long-timers, patiently watching other dogs leave for their forever homes while he continues to wait for someone to notice him. He deserves the chance to finally leave the shelter behind and start the life he’s been hoping for. Personality Bo is affectionate, loyal, and full of joyful energy. He loves interacting with people and thrives on connection and companionship. His playful personality keeps life fun, whether he’s enjoying a walk, learning something new, or simply spending time close to his humans. Bo forms strong bonds and becomes deeply devoted to the people he trusts. His sweet nature and loving heart make him a wonderful companion who truly wants to be part of a family. Breed Info A Belgian Malinois and Mastiff mix combines intelligence, strength, and loyalty. Malinois are known for their sharp minds, trainability, and desire to work closely with their owners, while Mastiffs bring calm confidence and deep devotion to their families. Dogs with this mix tend to be incredibly loyal and thrive when given both mental stimulation and physical activity. With structure and engagement, they become deeply bonded companions who love being involved in daily life. Owner Responsibilities Bo already has a foundation of basic training, but like many intelligent dogs, he will benefit from continued training and mental enrichment. Regular exercise such as daily walks, play sessions, and activities that challenge his mind will help keep him happy and balanced. Positive reinforcement training will strengthen the bond between Bo and his adopter while helping him continue to grow into a confident, well-mannered companion. &#226&#154&#160&#239&#184&#143 Things to Consider Before adopting Bo, it’s important to think about your long-term lifestyle and stability. Are pets allowed where you live now and in the future? If you move, will Bo move with you? Do you have the time each day to provide exercise, engagement, and companionship? Are you financially prepared for routine veterinary care, food, and unexpected medical needs? Dogs like Bo deserve a home that is committed to them for life. Vet Care Even though Bo is healthy, adopters should establish care with their own veterinarian soon after adoption. This helps ensure preventative care continues properly and provides a trusted medical partner for Bo’s long-term health and well-being. Understanding the 3-3-3 Rule Like most rescue dogs, Bo will need time to adjust to his new home. The first 3 days he may feel unsure as he decompresses from the transition. The first 3 weeks he will begin learning your routine and feeling more secure. By 3 months, his confidence will grow and his full personality will shine. Patience and consistency during this adjustment period will help Bo thrive. Why Bo? Bo has waited patiently for someone to see the amazing dog he truly is. He is loyal, playful, intelligent, and full of love to give. Long-timer dogs like Bo often become the most devoted companions because they know what it means to finally be chosen. The family who gives Bo his forever home will gain a faithful friend who will stand by their side through every adventure.
