Story
Hi, I'm JoJo! I'm a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd mix. I'm as loveable as can be and am such a good boy! I get along great with other dogs, walk okay on a leash, and am even potty-trained. I need a home without cats though as I like to chase them. I'm in a foster home and patiently waiting for my chance at a forever home.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2684105##

Story
Truffle is about a year old and appears to be a Dutch Shepherd / Australian Shepherd mix. This is a best guess based on her look, size, and behavior, and she really shows traits from both breeds. Dutch Shepherds are known for being highly intelligent, loyal, and driven. They are working dogs at heart, which means they thrive when they have a job to do. They tend to be very people oriented, quick learners, and can be vocal and alert. Australian Shepherds are also extremely smart and energetic, with strong herding instincts. They are playful, affectionate, and tend to bond closely with their people. Aussies often have a natural tendency to manage movement, whether that is other animals, kids, or even adults, and they do best with both physical exercise and mental stimulation. With a mix like this, you get a dog who is: Very intelligent and eager to learn Active and needs consistent exercise Loyal and people focused Likely to be vocal and alert Thrives with structure and engagement Truffle would do best in a home that can match her energy and give her an outlet for both her mind and body. A house with a yard is strongly preferred, as she is not a good fit for apartment living due to her activity level and tendency to be vocal. She is dog friendly and is currently living in a foster home with kids, so she has experience in a family environment. Because of her intelligence and energy, she would do especially well with an active household, someone who enjoys walks, hikes, training, or even dog sports. Overall, Truffle is the kind of dog who will thrive in a home that gives her guidance, consistency, and plenty to do. ##2714176##

Story
Meet Tigresa Female DOB: January 18, 2026 Weight: 10 lbs (current) medium size Breed: Carolina Dog / Dutch Shepherd Mix Spayed (Fixed): Pending (age-appropriate) Vaccinated Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Tigresa is a sweet, active puppy with a loving personality and a bright, curious spirit. She enjoys exploring the world around her, playing, and staying close to her people. She has that adorable puppy combination of playful energy and affectionate sweetness that makes every day fun. She is still very young and learning about routines, boundaries, and everyday life. Tigresa enjoys interaction, engagement, and companionship and would thrive in a home excited to help her grow into a confident adult dog. As a Carolina Dog / Dutch Shepherd mix, Tigresa may show traits such as intelligence, alertness, athleticism, and strong loyalty to her people. Dutch Shepherd-type dogs are often eager to learn and highly engaged with their families, while Carolina Dog traits can bring awareness, adaptability, and independence. Tigresa will likely grow into an active and intelligent dog who thrives with: Daily exercise and engagement Mental stimulation and training Structure and consistency Inclusion as part of the family She would do best in a home prepared for the time, patience, and commitment that come with raising a growing puppy. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from very different backgrounds. Some may have previously lived in homes, while others may have come from the streets, overcrowded shelters, neglect situations, or environments where they had little structure or guidance. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even puppies require significant training, supervision, and socialization as they grow. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should be prepared to continue training and support after adoption. Tigresa will need: Positive reinforcement training Frequent potty breaks and supervision Patience and consistency during puppy stages Socialization with people, sounds, and environments Guidance through teething and chewing phases Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, structure, and love, puppies like Tigresa grow into incredible lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, training, mental stimulation, and financial responsibility. Tigresa will need: Daily interaction, exercise, and engagement Continued puppy training and socialization Routine wellness exams and preventative veterinary care A safe, stable, indoor living environment As a growing puppy, she will also need continued monitoring of her growth, nutrition, and development. Tigresa is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside.
